The Church of the Sacred Heart, Jack McCurdy and Marianne Tr

McCurdy watched the quirky, abrasive Hawksmoore, in his odd apparel, backpedalling from the church doorway.  What came out was equally strange in appearance; a wiry, compact Spaniard, in black leather trousers, tall black leather boots, and a coarse peasant's shirt.  He noticed that the passerby in the vicinity were scattering; the way the two moved indicated that a fight was brewing.

Meanwhile, back in the church, Marianne was talking to the aged priest, who flipped a hand to indicate that he would be all right.  The parishoners had taken cover as well, and watched as she went to see what was going on.

The two men were circling each other near the fountain at the town square, a pair reminiscent of two tigers about to fight, each firmly clutching something in their packs.

"Bastian," the Hispanic fellow spoke first in English, his voice ringing, "I have learned a few things since last we met."
"So have I." was the dry response from the fellow in the black robes.

The fight was on. With the sound of silk shredding, blades were bared; a beautiful Spanish rapier with a silver-chased grip for de Vega, and in the case of Hawksmoore, a rather plain cutlass.  Steel met steel with a fearsome screech of metal, and Hawksmoore leapt like a gazelle up onto the fountain edge, while his opponent, de Vega, fiercely attacked.  Then Hawksmoore inexplicably found the power to rise up and kick the man squarely in the jaw, sending him rolling backwards...but not out of the fight.  Their blades whisked back and forth with blinding speed, each attacking and parrying the other's blade, with a deadly dance across the plaza.

Re: The Church of the Sacred Heart, Jack McCurdy and Marianne Tr

Marianne came out of the church just in time to catch de Vega charging at the other fellow. She gaped, transfixed at the sight of the pair who were circling each other, blades clashing, steel glinting in a deadly dance. She quickly looked around for Liza to make sure she was okay.
