Post Ludum: Alexis A-choo!

Well, that stall world has used up its last hankerchief.  I'd thought Alexis was going to be done in by a cold, but instead Lilandra, the paladin of 'what does not kill me makes me stronger' used her as a painless...for Lilandra... exit key.

Name of the world is Chillblaines.

Comments, thoughts, questions....

Interesting for a stall world, where the verser can get some money and equipment before they die. Most stall worlds don't provide for that. Very different than the tropical island or the top of the mountain stall world.

Well, I think those two worlds are quick intro worlds also.

I doubt that Misty would have agreed to work for Lilandra.  It doesn't look as if Alexis in going to have a easy to get along with boss.

Also, PT...  If everyone in Chillblaines is ill most of the time, how does the society remain viable.  I'm not talking about the robotic production of consumer goods, but the interaction among people which defines any society.

Misty,

And you'll get to meet Lilandra too, and she'll make you the same 'offer'.  What fun.

Heh, heh.

And a very interesting point. I guess I'd say that the need for social life overcomes teh prudence of staying apart.  Also, its the expectations of the people involved..too them, being sick or partially so for much of the time is normal.

How about Illness equals No War?

Illness equals no more was clever.  It is a hint at our path to Utopia-through countless pain and death lol.

Re: Post Ludum: Alexis A-choo!

One of my favorite writers, Paul Johnson said that the Twentieth Century was a century of moral improvement because pain improved morals.  I'm not sure what to think of it, but I do appreciate twisty, sideways insights on human nature.

Re: Post Ludum: Alexis A-choo!

Has anyone else ever wondered at how conveniently different universes speak English?

Or how conveniently different universes have compatible computer networks?

Not that I'm complaining, mind you... :D

Re: Post Ludum: Alexis A-choo!

I'm playing around with that aspect a little bit.  I'll probably work that way more...

One particular trick is for people to have words that mean something altogether different than what you think they mean.

One example of this was when Michael Di Vars verses in, sees some blue people by a lake, and says "Hi".  They proceed to go berserk and pound him to death.  Still wonders what 'hi' means in their language.

Re: Post Ludum: Alexis A-choo!

Ouch -- that is a particularly nasty trick.

I've experienced it in RL to some degree, as an American who lived a dozen years in Singapore.  When others speak English, and you speak American, you may think that you are speaking the same language, but not always.  Toss in cultural differences, and sometimes you get really surprised... :)
