I blink trying to get oriented and almost reflixively feel for the necklace.  I try and figure out what exactly happened and where we are.  I try and sense how close my things are and the other versers.

"Hello?"

::you reach around your neck and you feel around, the neckless and the feelings of dread are no longer there, like a weight lifted on your shoulders, your things are close by, a little below you, the versers are about 5 feet away on your right::

::you hear murmoring of "Watch out for the Hammer of Cutting..."::

I take a deep breath, still trying to get my bearings.  I gather up my gear and see if there's a way down to where I sense the other versers.

I'd rather be with them when we're discovered.  There's no real reason why, and I know there's no way of knowing who/what side their on, but still...

I try to climb down to them.

::as you get up to gather your gear, you see Ashe lying on the ground moving his arms like he is fighting in a waking dream, one sense comes from him::

::you look at his him, and the sword seems to me the source of the other verser::

::the alarm is still blaring, the doors and footsteps getting closer::

I move in calling to him, "Ashe... Ashe.. It's Kate... can you hear me?" I ask.

When I'm close enough I place one of my hands on either shoulder, hopding that contact will bring him around.  "Ashe?"

::starts coming around, and immediatly puts his hands to his helm to make sure it's there::

Where am I, and why can't I see?

::starts feeling around::

I know I'm on the ground, I want to know why I can't see.

Yes, Yes I know that the magic must be blocked, you know for a dragon, you really have a talent for the obvious.

Kate watches as Ashe talks to himself and then thinks back.  "She said something about your sight?..." I say putting things together.

"We... versed out, I tell him as I offer him a hand up.  "We're in some place... made out of metal.. could be a bunker or as ship..." I continue.

"And our sudden appearance seems to have been noticed.  There's an alarm indicating that we're intruders and people are coming to investigate.  And I don't think we're in any shape to run so.. raise your hands and try to look harmless..."

::Ashe slowly sits up, grabs the hand and gets to his feet, just as that happens the hatch opens and a group of men point futureistic blasters at you::

::the oriental looking one says:: "We've got them Captain, want me to kill them"

::a burly looking man speaks up:: "They don't look like federation soldiers"

::the slick looking one says:: "Either way we'll bring them to the bridge"

::voice over the intercom:: "Good, I want a chat with our "guests"

I give them a shy kind shrug and gently put Ashe's hand on my shoulder.  "We don't mean any harm... Ashe here can't see... " I say to them.

Then I turn to Ashe, making sure they can hear me and know I'm not trying anything.  "Sounds like we're on a ship," I tell him.  "You going to be all right using me as a guide?"

"Please lead the way... I tell them.

::They give you skeptical looks as the asian one steps forward::

"Take off your weapons, your armor, and your belongings and don't try anything"

::in a scene from various movies, as takes off his bladed gauntlets, removes the hidden dart shooters in the palms, takes off the upper and lower parts of the underarmor, carefully removing the spellbooks, the crossbow and bolts, the 6 dagger hidden in the shoulder seams of the armor, his spell compnent pouch belt, the two daggers hidden in each boot, the kneepad dart launchers, his boots which you notice come to a bladed tip, the kris, the katana, and he is standing there in his silk clothing, and removes his helm::

"Is that all of it?"

::Ashe sheepishly smiles and takes a pair of long knifes from a fold on each side of his silk pants, the belt buckle, which looks to be a punch dagger, and under the outer silk shirt, there is another shirt with two holstered pistol crossbows, that look like pistols untill you remove them from the holster, and you here a boing, and the two rods come out::

::the asian man does a frisk down of him, and confirms that there is indeed no more weapons, he eyes you up and looks to see if you put all your weapons down::

::take the weapons, armor and other items and examine them:: the asian man looks to be in charge of this as he prods you two forward

::Ashe puts a hand on your shoulder, seemingly better with his inability to see with the alarm not blaring anymore::

As ordered I remove every weapon and everything that can be used or construed as a weapon.  This includes my pistol, my leatherman and anything else I can think of.

I take a deep calming breath before falling in line.  I say nothing about Ashe's vision or the fact that the sword registers as another verser.  That is something for private conversation with Ashe later.

"As I said-- we inetend no harm."

::they take you through various hallways, through hatches and then into an area with windows and various panels, you see a multitude of people at stations, doing various tasks::

::one of them walks up to your group and looks at the others then at you two::

"So how did you two get on my ship?"

I look around, describing what I see to Ashe, not knowing if we're on a boat, a sub or a space ship.

When asked how we got here, I realized it was going to be a recurring question for the rest of my life.

"Its a long story," I tell him.  "A very long story." I tell him.

"My name is Kate, and this gentleman is Ashe..." I let out a sigh not knowing how or where to start.  "We are what I have learned is called... 'versers."

I watch to see if he has any reaction and then explain some more.  "When I die in one world in the multiverse... I end up somewhere else in another... Sometimes like my home, sometimes, very different.  I have no control over where I appear... otherwise beleive me, We would not have intruded here... "

::the captain listens to your story intently then at the end he pauses::

"Marylin, please make sure our guests are comfortable in their quarters"

::he walks off and goes back to looking at the viewscreen, the asian man whispering in his ear, you get the impression that he didn't believe you::

::a young woman walks up with two of the security::

::she smiles:: "This way please, I will show you to your room"

::she leads you down the hall ways and hatches, and eventually stops outside a door, which opens to a nicely furnished cabin::

"Everything you need is here, if you need anything the guards can provide. I'm sure we will be speaking again soon."

::she walks away and the door closes and latches behind you::

::Ashe fishes out a tuning fork out a fold in his shirt, and thwaps it against the metal looks around for a second and navigates the room perfectly and flops down in the chair::

So tell me more about this verse? Since I'm stuck here. At least this is interesting, I've never been in space before, definatly confirms some theories I've been working on.

I tilt my head and watch Ashe.  "Echo location... or acustics?" I ask curiously as I looke around the room, trying to see if anything looks familiar from stories, or books or tv.

When Ashe asks me I shrug and answer truthfully.  "I don't know...  We've only achieved basic space travel where I'm from... shuttles satalites.. probes to neighboring planets..." I tell him as I continue looking around.

"But... it could be anything... something familiar or... " I sigh and flop down into a chair.  "<blue>But this..."<blue>"


((I thought I'd try.  Telling him I got her accidently, only to find out that the ship hasn't had contact with another being in 30 years... that would give them no cause to believe me.. and I don't think the 'I don't speak your language game' might backfire here))

::looking around, not much looks familiar, it's definatly not like any ship you've seen on it::

Ashe "Both, I use everything available to get back what was stolen from me."

::you two wait for about three hours before the captain, marylin and security come and get you and escort you to a conference room::

Captain: "So let me get this stright, your not from the federation, and your from another universe. Marylin says she believes you, so here is what we are doing to do. Since we are not in a position to visit any ports, were going to keep you here as our guests and see if we can put you two to work."

Ashe: "Well, that's a generous offer, but what can a blind man possibly do on a ship like this."

The Captain smiles: "Oh don't you worry, we're going to get you down to medical and see what we can do for you. It would be a shame to waste someone with the skills a blind man has who can navigate a room like you did with just a sound."

I get a little bored exploring the room, as we wait I tell Ashe about where I came from and what things were like.

I think we're both a little reielved when the Captain and the others collect us.  I'm glad they believe us-- cuase if they didn't well... fact is stranger than fiction.

I smile when they metion Ashe's navigation.  "You can really do something like that?" I ask.

"Things like that... like this.." I add gesturing around me.  "Only exist in fiction."

I bite my lip for a second before continuing.  "I would enjoy working," I admit.  "I was also wondering if you had information... history... anything... I'm kind of stuck repeating things... and the more I learn..."

((sorry fell asleep last night early, tried to wake, and didn't work))

When something is taken from you, people either crumble or adapt, I chose the latter. I couldn't find magic to repair my eyesight, and the curse only applied to my eyes. I was able to enchant the rose quartz in my helmet to see in greys and reds, and use magic to help attune my ears to use sound to see.

Captain: "Interesting story, so show us some of this magic you speak of. It would at least verify your story, since magic isn't something we do.

::Ashe stands up and goes through perhaps 30 spells before he hits apon one that works::

::a small globe of light, that makes it a lot brighter in the room appears in front of him::

Well I can see why, many of my spells won't work at all.

::they all look to each other with crunched eyebrows::

Captain: "So what is it all that you can do Mr. Valerin"

::Ashe smiles::



Marylin: "Interesting, we had not considered that you could actually do anything you said about magic, seems we will have to be more careful in the future"

Captain: "Then your fiction is out reality, and your reality as it stands now, is your on the one ship that opposes the federation. She is called the Destiny, and we are her crew. Since you will be joining us, we would like you two to contribute.

::the ball of light starts pinging around like a pinball around the room::

Interesting, while this place has dampened my magical abilities, it has enhanced my psionic ones. Definatly worth exploring.I am a jack of all trades, master of magic. I have a few mental abilties, like Telekensis, Ignoring of Pain, and Mind Tricks. I have trained 10 years to fight, so although I am not a match hand to hand against the leader of the firetide assassins, I would be for his underlings.

Captain: "Either way you two will be fully evaulated by Marylin before being allowed to join the crew. As for history, this ship houses a complete electronic library on any subject we know about."

Will it be a clothing optional evaluation?

::various flushed faces, and a blush from Marilyn as you two are escorted back to the cabin::

I watch Ashe's show with the others and am amazed by what he does.  I knew magic was real, I saw it in the battle that almost crushed me-- I even saw a hint of it with the Professor and the others... but this, and Psionics...

I nod appreciatively when they mention their library, Anything that will hope me adapt to our new surroundings.  Ashe certianly seems to.  I wonder about his sword, but this is not the time to mention it.  I also wonder about my weapons, but that too shall wait-- and its not like they won't come with me in the next world.

I blush when Ashe asks about clothing.  I'm not sure what to think but I'm starting to get the feeling that he's going to be with me for a while.

"Psych eval or physical or... something else?" I ask Marilyn as we head back to the cabin.

Marylin: "All three, I am to evaluate your mental and other abilities, and we'll get you two checked out in sickbay. I'm sure they will want to look at Mr. Valerin's condition."

Interesting, so are you here to keep the male people off their guard?

Marylin: "What do you mean?"

It's a trick, used for thousands of years, you find someone appealing of the opposite sex to deal with unknowns. As for Kate, you think she's with me and vice versa.

Marylin: "I assure you, my role on the ship is the same be you male or female."

Well, I've got my eyes on you.

::Ashe smiles::

::Marylin opens your door:: "I have some other duties, but you will have about two hours before I am free to take you two to medical."

I was about to ask Marilyn what 'something else' might entail when Ashe asked his question and I wonder if I've ever felt so embarassed.  Part of me knows, somehow, I have a lot more embarassment to bear.

I thank Marilyn, giving her an apologetic look.  "Oh, is there anyway I can start catching up on history?" I ask.  I figure if I'm going to be couped up for a few more hours, and be a good guest-- it would be a good place to start.

Marylin: "All our records are on the computer, and we need to check you both out. You could have federation nanobots in your systems, and giving you access to the computers could cripple the ship."

You know my room, if you want to come by later tonight

Best way to keep them off guard is play to the role they think you are.

::flicks his finger against the metal stand by the door and it makes a sound and vibrates and he finds and flops on the couch::


So how did you like my performances?

I nod.  To be honest I hadn't thought of that... and then something else hits me.  "Transfer to the computer... that would involve more than physical contact with a keyboard... I say, but its too late.

I have to wait.

With Ashe... and Ashes humor.  In spite of myself I smile.  "I guess my training is a bit different.. it says, be a gracious guest, do not embarass your hosts or yourself..."

I shrug.  Its a little old world.  "There's so little we know-- other thant he fact that we versed onto their ship-- and they haven't killed us yet and they haven't thrown us behind bars... " I pause, looking around.  "Or at least obvious bars."

I sigh and sit down.  "Sorry-- bit nervous." I tell him finally.

::Ashe makes idle chit-chat with you for awhile, and after about two hours Marylin is back and excorts you to a room with a lot of beds, and a couple of people with futeristic scrubs are standing around. They seperate you, and give you a routine physical, minus the fully nakid part they sometimes get to, they press a cyllander against your arm and you feel liquid press into your body::

Marylin peeps up: "To prevent diseases and plagues, since we don't know what you two may have, it's a standard precaution.

::they give you a routine once over, but they are facinated by Ashe's eyes::

Random Nurse: "Well it looks like one giant catarac, they eye underneith seems to work fine, but this isn't natural, how thick and obvious this is."

Doctor: "That's why we are going to use Destiny to help us figure out if his eyes work or not, to determine what course of action to take.

::they make him look into this metal box attatched to the ceiling for awhile, while asking questions of the ship::

I sit through the exam, studying their equipment as much as I can, and I give them as much of my history as I can.

And when they start working on Ashe I simply watch and learn as much as I can about their equipment, aproach to the problem and their technology.

((Almost done with stuff, battling a bad cold, two laptops trying to get delievered, and the deck this weekend, and I can maybe get back to a regular schedule again))

::they make idle chit chat while examining you, and mention in passing sounds a lot like Earth about 400-500 years ago, the concept of things like typing into keyboards, and the like seems foreign to them::

::the doctor sits Ashe in a chair and has the computer run a scan on his eyes, the scan is in the form of a white light from a chamber in the ceiling, and he has a large screen next to him cut into 8 different shots, some with pictures, some with data and some with projections::

Doctor: "Well this is interesting, this isn't a disease of physical ailment in our databanks, and this is the most advanced ship in the galaxy. What is more percular is that Destiny says this couldn't happen in nature without damage to the eye underneith, but there is none"

That's because it was done on purpose by a powerful priest who lords over demons. He cursed my blindness to be one no magic can cure.

Doctor: "Well number one I don't believe in magic, just hard science, and two, even if I did believe in it, surgury isn't magic. It looks like if we calibrate a laser torch for the right settings, depth level and power, we can burn those catarcks right off, there is a chance we can damage the eye, but there is always a chance with these things."

It's not like you can make it any worse, and I've coped so far, so it can only get better.

::the doctor says he will need Burly from engineering to help him calibrate a laser torch, he says he will be ready tomorrow, and it's getting late anyway::

::you do stifle a yawn, and Ashe seems irratible, so it's probably a sign that you want to get some rest::

::Marylin walks you back to your quarters, and pushes a button in the wall revealing bunk beds, and another revealing the door to the bathroom, surprisingly nothing much has changes, and they still use real water::

I shrug and tell the doctors that keyboards were my reality and that there was very primative voice recognition software but it had progressed from

Talking very slow-ly and e-nun-ciating each word in a stead-y mono-tone.

To being able to recognize a normal voice about 80% of the time, but if you had a thick accent or a cold, or were very emotional, it wouldn't work.

I watch  them as they work on Ashe and try not to get too hopeful.  According to Ashe... no magic could return his sight... but as the doctor says... surgery ain't magic... its physically removing the problem.

And Ashe's explaination also explains his hatred for the priests of demons, and I find myself very glad that he didn't think I was a preistess of demons when we met-- Otherwise I would have left his world almost ... as quickly as we did...

When we're led to our suite again, I thank Marylin  and pause.  "So.. when do the phsych evaluations begin?" I ask, guessing the answer.

Once we're back in our room I look at Ashe.  "And this... is what versing is like..." I tell him.  "We've got a bathroom and beds now."

I have an urge to be very sarcastic right now, but yessim, I have seen the running water, and I gots down on my knees and praised the lord.

I am first and formost an adventurer, so I work hard and play hard, so in the wilderness, a bed and a washroom are no where to be found. Once in civilization, I take full advantage of every ammenity available to me at a premium price. We have washrooms, we just use a lot more magic than science to make them.

I shrug.  "I prefer takeing the bed that's farthest from the door, I sigh.  "But bunks kinda negate that."

"as for the plumbing-- I wasn't sure if you saw it or not... Sorry.."

I work on settling in and getting some shut eye, then shrug.  "So what do you do when you aren't ... dealing with wars, and banishing evil necklaces?"

::Ashe climbs into bed and gets settled::

Not much, I adventure, look for relics, research spells and magic. I did have more time near the end, since most of the wars stopped with the deep freeze.

::sighs::

Well at least I can get some rest here, and the scenery isn't that bad, besides there is opportunity to get new weapons and gear to take apart and improve.

::you eventually drift off to sleep, and in the morning, you get a wake up call about an hour before you get escorted to Maryilyn's office, there is breakfast food lined up, eggs, various meats, and some stuff you have never seen before, along with coffee and juice::

Marylin: Well once you two have eaten, we will get started.

::she has a padlike device and a stylus::

I nod, giving up on telling Ashe whatever's in front of him.  I figure if he wants to know, he'll ask... otherwise I won't say something that he takes as a crack on being... well, not being from her world.

I ask about the food as I try it, especially the unknown foods, but I ask about each... I figure I don't want to each something thinking its chicken and finding out its eagle.

I also ask about the pad.  Parts of it are familiar but others are of course way behond what I've worked with.

::about the time you are sitting down with Marylin, the alarms go off, and you hear the feet of people rushing around::

::Marylin excuses herself and leaves the room, and comes back a few minutes later::

"The Captain has a situation and wants to see you two on the bridge"

::you two are excorted to the bridge where you see a concerned Captain, conferring with his various officers, and the looks toward you two::

"We have a situation, a Federation Research Station is apparantly delving into creation of weapons, that will undoubtably be used against us, and other rebels. We can't allow that to happen, so we are planning a raid on this facility. I figured since your here, and have unique abilities, you might have ideas, or perhaps wanted to go along."

::points to various screens with schematics and graphs::

"That is what we have, we are planning on going in, neutralizing the guards, and get the weapons back here. We will probably have two teams, one to get the weapons, the other to cover them. There is a degree of risk, so, we can offer you a Kinetic Blaster and packs to use, if you wanted to go. If you have any suggustions, or want to go along, now is the time."

I pause, overwhelmed for a moment.  There is so much I don't know about the 'rebels' and the 'federation'... hell I don't even know their tech.

"I think I need a crash course on what you can and can't do.  What forms of transportation do you have?  Teleportation, individual manuvering packs, small craft? What about technology you can use?... Holographs, tractor beams, sheilding .. on the main craft, on smaller objects?..."

I hate pushing like this-- but I have to know what resources we have.

((think of Lasek, still healing :P))

Captain: "As far as we know this ship is the only ship in the galaxy capable of transportation, which is why when you two showed up, we thought the federation discovered the technology."

"We don't really use small craft, individual manuvearing packs or the like. We have spacesuits with thrusters, but we use them for space work. We do have holographic technology, that's rare and only usable on the ship, we have smaller units but, they aren't nearly as good. We have tractor beams for towing. Unfortantly not knowing where your from, it's hard for us to know the level of technology you are used to, all of this is common knowledge in the federation."

I quickly describe life as I knew it before.. before I died.  "We had copmuters, but you had to communicate with a keyboard, and the out put was displayed on a screen, or printed out... or played through the sound card.

Holograms were in their infancy.  We'd just started to explor our galaxy-- using probes to study our neighboring planets-- and shuttles and space capusles to go as far as our own moon...."

Its not much, but I hope it helps them understand where I"m coming from.

::they stop and confer::

Captain "Well I don't know quite what that means, but we would use the transporter to beam the two teams in and out, the weapons are in a guarded area, but there are also civilians around, not all the people in the Federation are evil, most are just doing what they need to."

::pauses::

"From your abilities, I would like you to have you on the backup team, you shouldn't see too much action, but your unique abilities could come in handy."

::hands you a kinetic blaster, and a couple of clips::

"These are our weapons, they are powerful, and useful, however Federation forces use a kind of rubber armor, so your primitive weapons might be a better choice."

"The others on your team have the skills to do the mission, this is a good opportunity to see what things you would like to learn."

I look at them for a moment and shake my head.  "Ashe is the one with speical abilities... me?  I can program a 21st century computer.  I can dance the charleston... I can shoot, but we're talking a shotgun and a pistol-- weapons that require atmosphere to fire..."

I shrug.  "I mean.. I'm willing to help... but I really don't see what I can do here."

The captain smiles

"No one is forcing you to go, and there will be gravity and atmosphere inside the facility, where we would be beaming into. Your slugthrowers haven't seen use in about 400-500 years, and as such, the Federations armor isn't meant for them. You'll find that a physical projectile will pierce their armor, since their armor is meant to asborb from the blunt impact of the kinetic blaster. It's your call, as I said you won't be pushed into the front of the action"

::looks at the screen::

"If you go we'll have you go with Burly the engineer, he will be there to monitor their engineering section once the strike team goes in to plant the explosives, and to coordinate the beam out of the weapons. It's your call."

I smile and nod.  "I said I have no problem coming-- I just... ," I shrugged.  "Don't know how much help I'll be... as for Ashe-- his coming or going is entirely up to him."

"Just tell me where to go..."

The Captain nods and starts assigning crew, you seem to have drawn Tom and Burly. Tom seems to be a dressed a lot like han solo, and has the attitude and mannerisms to match, Burly seems to be a big jovial guy, who seems to know his way around engines, they are part of your team.

Ashe seems to be recooperating, and seems to be getting some extra couch time with Maryliyn to work through the drastic change in his life.

About 2 hours later, everyone seems ready, and the first team beams down and they get ready to beam you down, any last minute questions or requests?

((And this means it's time for a GE roll to see how smooth or how rought this goes a GE roll of 19 goes worse than expected, this should get interesting))

::the mission starts, the other team beams in and heavy resistance is heard over the coms, the stations weapons come online and rock the Destiny, the Destiny returns fire and reinforcements are called apon, you three are set to beam over, the ship beams you one at a time, as it gets to be your turn, the ship is rocked with a blast, as the beam takes ahold of you, you get the feeling momentarily of materializing into something, and then nothing::
