Post Ludum for John and Tomas

Well, they versed out together, and both tried and succeeded at doing some cool things, and would no doubt have had more success if the Killer GM had not sent them packing before they could get fully in gear.

Oak has managed to plant seedlings all over the Heart with his song.  And Tomas learned how to possess people in certain circumstances which might lead him toward becoming a Master Mentat instead of the Archmage he dreams of...we'll see.

Hey, it's cool. After all, everything returned to normal in the end :)

And what's that "Master Mentat"? you mean I'll be able to possess people's bodies?! Cool! Too bad that this ability has more potential for evil than good, which doesn't go with me.

Re: Post Ludum for John and Tomas

Its just a way of saying a person with high level psi powers.  And right now, you know how to get into a person's head if they are dreaming, and someone set up a telepathic link for you.

Which isn't much use.  Kind of like having a big outboard motor, and no boat.  But, that can be remedied...

I would like to point out, all the praise and attention to the Post Ludum threads only encourages PT to kill you faster in more spectacular ways the next time. Just a friendly public service message. :D

Re: Post Ludum for John and Tomas

I really loved Heartwar.  It had a lot of aspects that were very enjoyable, and very apt for my character's goals.

Of course, getting to sow the seed throughout the Heart was totally cool, and it was fun to be able to do it by making use of what resources were available, and figuring out a way to broadcast the message throughout the planet.

I managed to get quite a few psi powers on my wishlist, including clairvoyance, clairaudience, telekinesis, telepathy, and precognition, as well as (perhaps) healing (did I get healing, PT?).  Not at all a shabby list of gains here.

I received some training with using a light saber, and some hints on where to find crystals for them.  BTW, did I get a chance to learn how to construct a light saber during our pre-evac time, or did precog take up the whole time?  :)

I purchased some modern-day equipment, and got a couple of gems worth of salary, even though I spent all of my time sleeping instead of teaching Karl anything.  Good thing that the law made him pay me anyway, since those with sleeping sickness have lawful protections...  :)

And I had a chance to help rescue the Jedi from the Chinese tanks before I left.

One question I had -- why didn't Q know about cellular metamorphosis?  That knowledge exists in the Star Trek universe, so Q should have known how.  And it is usable by normal humans, so knowledge would have been all I needed to acquire those skills, the same way I did from Obi Wan and Yoda.

Was my lack of success with cellular metamorphosis a result of the dice?  Or was it a GM decision, to keep me from getting too much power too soon?  Or was it a result of the fact that the Jedi were "my" Figments (and therefore successfully learning skills from them came about because it was a part of my deepest wish, when I created them), while Q was merely part of someone else's Figment?

Even though I had no control over my death, I enjoyed the whole bit with Tomas trying to help me, and taking over my body in the process.  Doing the cameo spot of mini-GMing for Tomas while he wandered around loose in my memories was fun.  Too bad he only chose paths in the Sad District...

Many thanks for an awesome trip through an awesome world, PT!  :D

Was this the first playtest of this world?  Do we get our names included as playtesters?  :p

Re: Post Ludum for John and Tomas

Thank you John.

Q didn't know about that for roughly the same reason that the Image of God didn't know you...Q is a Figment.  He only knows what the people on the planet know, or what he has reasoned out from that...and in fact, he knows less since its a world of poetry, and thus things like precise, large-scale numbers, and so on don't enter in.

And sorry, most of what you learned is 'How to Manipulate the Dream'.  That is, you'll find yourself much more skillful at arranging your own dreamlife to suit now.  But you did pick up true clairvoyance.

I think its fair.  You get great power easily handed to you, but not so much chance to directly learn skills, although you do get useful tips as to skills.  And you may end up being able to use those tips to get the skills you desired.

Now as to what Q was saying...He said that maybe a long time ago such was possible in the Waking World.  But, the Figments memories decay over centuries.  Millenia ago, they have usually fairly vague recall.

Sorry John

And yes, you're both playtesters.  Hopefully for the 4th Book of Worlds.  So, I'll need names that you all want in the Playtesters Section...

Re: Post Ludum for John and Tomas

Ah, well.  I suppose I did feel like I was making out too much like a bandit.  :)

And it seems like I have clairvoyance, plus clairaudience (since I used it on the car keeping watch at Karl's), plus precognition (since I just used it on the space ship I just versed to).

Is that correct?  If so, then from what I remember of all the past threads I've read here, acquiring three new psi skills from one world certainly isn't to be scoffed at.  And there will be other worlds to seek my other wishlist stuff.

Yeah, getting new psi powers was fun.  But what made this world really unique was the Dreamworld.  That is such a cool idea!  And the Figments were already so interesting, but with the Dreamshaping angle, for a character with a primary goal of sowing seed... wow.

Being a gather world was also nifty.  Too bad I didn't get a chance to meet more versers before departing.

One thing that made the experience particularly enjoyable to me was that I had a chance to see other folks entering the Dreamworld first, and realize that the first time sleeping would create dreams related to your deepest wish, and give suggestions to the GM (Jhiaxus at the time) as to what Oak's deepest wishes would be.

I would recommend that whoever runs this world actually ask the players what their character's deepest wish(es) is/are, and use them in the Dreamworld.

This world is going to be hard to top.  Thanks for a great game!  :D

Growing up through the sand of the beach is a small dogwood tree, a mere sapling, perhaps a foot tall, but its already has flowers on it.

"The Heart is seeded with them.  In numbers beyond counting.  One of your others, the odd ones like you who make us curious, he has planted the Heart with his vision, although at the cost of his life."

That is so cool!  :D

I like the symbolism of the dogwood tree too...  :)

Re: Post Ludum for John and Tomas

Does the sudden anti-gun sentiment have anything to do with Oak's death?

Not so much. Although there would be some subtle connection.
