A Peaceful World

For David Marcoe on the GO site, I'm going to be coming up with a peaceful world, a good place to rear an adopted child.

Thing is, I'm not sure how to make it.

I want a place thats interesting for me and the player, but still a good place to raise a child with lots of mountains and forests and stuff.

I can pretty much say it ought to have an Alliance deity in charge of the world since they are usually kinder to sentients than the Anarchs.

But as you might guess from the worlds ya'll have been dropped into, I don't do peaceful all that well.

So any ideas, theories, ten thousand word essays....?

Re: A Peaceful World

Make it violent on a different scope than physical.

There is more than one kind of conflict, and not all of them threaten the body, mind or spirit.

Re: A Peaceful World

Or, the violence could have happened in the distant past.  David Marcoe and group have just emerged from their cryosleep tubes/underground bunker city/starship to discover that the world had rebuild itself while the primary noncaregivers were asleep or underground.  The game could be about the group or family exploring and building their new world.

Re: A Peaceful World

Both comments show promise.

I could have a conflict such as Man vs. Self or a continuing set of moral dilemnas for the hero to struggle through.

I could have the hero be put in a position of judging other people, and deciding if they are allowed into the community (perhaps people in cryostasis, and he has to decide if he should wake them up or not), and then that leads to some people being mad at other people for ancient wrongs from before the general cryofreezing.

I'm wondering if there was some sort of general catastrophe like an asteroid hit, and people went into cryosleep to evade the damage.  And then they start coming back out...

Actually those are all good ideas.  I particularly like Misty's.

The moral dilema here is....limited resources, choice between different goods.

Re: A Peaceful World

The real problem here is, I don't think PT is capable of doing a non violent world :). Not that he couldn't come up with one, just saying and he admits, that he doesn't run the kind of style to allow someone to just sit in a world, do their own thing without something there to shake things up.

I tend to agree (shocking, isn't it?), which is why there would be natural obstacles, wild/mutant animal encounters, reluctant/rebellous NPC's, and the occasional natural disaster thrown in by PT to make it interesting.

And just to make it even more interesting, there is still that limited resourses thing which could be coupled with a quest to find the lost techno-trove of stockpiled predisaster supplies and equipment.

Re: A Peaceful World

Ya'll are probably right.  Hmmh, I might want to see if I can get another GM to run him, after all not everyone is as pschyo as moi....Jhiaxus, for example?

Of course, DM is currently in a nicely violent world (okay a really violent one where people run around playing 'Pschyopath for a Week' at the behest of the government), but it doesn't look like he'll be versing out anytime soon.

I do like this idea we're making of a post-post apocalyptic world, one where people wake up two thousand years after a disaster....

And speaking of disasters, is one of the signs of the apocalypse Misty agreeing with Jhiaxus?

Re: A Peaceful World

Well there are two schools of thought on the subject. Some think I grow on people like a flesh eating virus, consuming the flesh, and weakening the defenses lest people have no recource but to like me or die. Or there is always the Belkar theory, that I have a Love/Hate switch instead of a brain, and people/places/things, conform to either Love or Hate. Now that she has agreed with me, she has flipped the switch to Love, so in response, I will need to spout some random stuff that will make her angry, and in turn lash back at me, turning the switch back to hate. Those are the two scientific explinations on how Misty and I can agree on something.

Re: A Peaceful World

There are more than two reasons why we could agree.  For example, what about free will.  I choose to agree with something because that is what I decide to do.

And J-Hack, since we now re-disagree, the apocalypse has been moved back to next week.
