For the bored and others--Elven Magic

Any ideas as to what would constitute Elven Magic that would be appropriate for a culture that lives in small villages, and farms.

Water for farms, rapid growth of vegetation (to protect farms and food), control over small animals such as rabbits and gophers (yet again, farms).

I dunno, what's this for?

Re: For the bored and others--Elven Magic

MJ needed some ideas for his world Orc Rising on EM, and so I thought I'd ask the brain trust over here.  You're doing good.

One spell, I know they have is to 'ask peach trees to lower their limbs so that the fruit can be picked more easily'.

Perhaps one that makes rocks softer or harder as needed, to make them better for hunting game or easier to clear the fields.

Animate a short length of vine to hunt mice.  It deals with mice by either 1)taking them far away 2)strangling them.

Re: For the bored and others--Elven Magic

Quick question.

What's the point of hunting mice?  They aren't very much food and it takes too much effort to catch them.

Mice eat seeds and ruin crops.  They're pests.

Oh, sorry.  "hunt" implied that you were doing it for food.

Hunt - to chase or search for (game or other wild animals) for the purpose of catching or killing.

Re: For the bored and others--Elven Magic

This is MJ's world of Orc Rising with failing magic, and low tech, and Humans, Dwarves, and Elves who raid the Orc Tribes to get slaves, and justify this by the fact that this allows them to teach the Orcs of the love of Gaia rather than their pantheon of Orc gods.  One side effect of this is that the Orcs are turning more and more to the most vicious and evil of their gods.

Dump the player in the setting, see what they do.  One player tried to treat the Orcs right, and learn magic.  Another, Jhiaxus, built an orc city of free orcs, and when an army of the followers of the evil orc god showed up, he called down the power of Odin to smite them.  It was pretty cool.

Yup gotta love Call Lightning, when you need to clear a field full of enemies. No good orcs died in the casting of that spell, hell, not a single good orc died period. The closest the evil orcs got to the walls was 100 yards.
