Avahur's Oasis

A kitten is running around in circles in a tennis court, around the net.  The difference is that the kitten is wearing boxing gloves and running on two legs, also wearing boxing shorts.  A snake with a boxing glove on its tail enters, also wearing a 'boxing skirt'.  The two enter the tennis court and the kitten initiates with a right hook.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then, you awaken.  You're in a wooded area.  The trees seem pretty dense, but in most parts, they aren't too dense to move through.  You look around and it is generously peaceful.  You see a squirell cocking its head at you from a tree branch.

Then, you hear footsteps to your left.  It looks like there might be a narrow clearing in the direction, but you can't see the floor of the area from where you are.

You have your weapons and armor with you, but not the elastic bag with everything else.

When you try to 'feel' your things, you get a pulling sensation from the direction of the footsteps.  You hear voices also coming from the direction of the footsteps and the vector.  You only feel one pull at the moment.

You make your way through the trees, and you see three men in green and brown cloaks around something on the ground.  One is bent over examining it closer.

Then, one looks over at you.  "Michael!  Runeless!"

The one on the ground quickly turns around towards you and pulls his sleeve up.  There are numerous symbols and shapes on it that you don't recognize to any degree.

He snaps his wrist and suddenly there's a bow in it.  Then, he brings his other hand up to his forearm and touches a symbol.  By some means, an arrow is there now and he draws it back.  "Stay back, devil!"

A larger man in a brown cloak to his right grabs onto his shoulder.  "Michael, focus.  Think.  Why can you use rune?  He isn't a Runeless."

The man keeps his bow drawn.  "But he's covered in blood!  He's a savage!"  He draws the arrow back more.

"I'm covered in blood because I am a warrior.  I fight, and naturally, those I have killed bleed, and thus I get blood on me.  I fight because I need to.  I fight to survive, who I fight depends, but most of those I fight have wronged me in some way.  Either by attacking me and threatening my life, or killing my friends.  Surely you would do the same, if someone you cared for, such as one of your friends was killed, wouldn't you want to avenge their death against the ones that were the cause of it?  Just recently, my friend was killed because we were forced to be pawns by others.  Then he was killed forcing to defend a place that wasn't his to defend by choice.  So I avenged his death.  And now by other worldly events of which I would rather not describe I am here.  I mean no harm to you, so please lower your bow."

The man who seems to be named Michael moves to the left, releasing some of the tension on his arrow so that it is limp.  You see your bag.

The larger man in the brown cloak approaches you, holding one of its straps.  "Is this yours?  I've never seen anything like it.  I'm Dan.  What is your name?"

Dan's head is partially bald, but he has hair on the sides and back of his head.  You can see the same kinds of marks on his hands as were on the other man's arm.  The marks seem to lead up to his arms, but they're covered by his clothes.

"What?  Don'tcha know?  You shoulda been gifted one back when you came of age."  He says with an odd expression on his face, confused mostly.

"Michael, we'll stop at the River on the way to Pior so this man can clean himself up some before sturrin' up trouble in town with his appearance."

Michael grudgingly nods and flicks his wrist, causing the bow to disappear again.  He then puts the arrow in his opposite hand and touches the same mark as before while pushing it into himself.  The arrow seems to vanish inside of his body.

Dan continues.  "What exactly do you want to know about Runes?  It's kind of basic knowledge."

Alright, but I am not of this world, so I wasn't given any runes at all.  I came... from another place... to put it easily.  A place without runes.  Definitely a different world than this one... "The River's right up ahead."  Dan says, and as you listen harder, you can actually hear water flowing close.  "Yes and no about the runes working by touch.  The runes that he was using were container runes.  He keeps the bow in the rune on his hand and the arrows on his wrist.  There are others that are constant for a certain amount of time.  Some runes are activated by thought."

Then, you continue walking and find a clearing.  "There's the River."  He points forward an you see a peaceful river ahead of you, flowing under a sturdy wooden bridge.  "Michael, go ahead to Pior and tell them that I might be a little late.  Go ahead and tell them that we found someone, but leave out the blood.  I'll tell Pior personally."

Michael starts walking off, but glares at you before continueing on.  Dan smiles and says, "Hurry up with the cleaning.  I'm sort of on a schedule."

"Eh, oh well.."

I continue to get the blood out of my armor, and when it is out I  create some wind to blow it off, using hand motions and speaking the words to dry it as quickly as possible.  Then I see if it is still wet.  If so, then I create some dirt, put it on the ground, go quickly get some wood, place it on the dirt, and set the wood aflame, then hold my wet item near it to dry it off.  When its done, I create some water and douse the fire, put my armor back on, and go with him to the village.

Dan nods, still confused.  He and the third man stand there amazed as you perform all of these magics without seeming to use any runes at all.

They don't mind waiting for you to finish up, gaping at accomplishment after accomplishment of magic.

Once you put your armor and cloak back on, Dan speaks again, "There isn't any such thing as invisible runes.  I suggest that in front of anyone else that you don't use whatever abilities these are unless you say that you have a rune for each thing that you do."

You see a few people on the side of the River with pales to collect water, but not many on your way to Pior.  You follow the River and you finally see what seems to be an ocean that it runs out of.  Next to this ocean, there is a village made of primarily wood.  People look at you strangely, and parents direct their childrens' gaze away from you.

I stop, and put my back towards the village.  I put my hand up my sleeve, then create fire with my other hand.

"You won't have to use any of your abilities here.  It's a ways from the Border Gate."

The two of you finally arrive at a large building.  It has a wooden tile roof, but the tile seems to be a slicker wood than the others.  Somehow, it seems sturdier.  Also, there are two columns at the front entrance that makes you feel that it is made of strong wood as well.  There seems to be only one floor, but there are doubled windows in the front of the building.

He takes you inside a pair of doors decorated by what seem like runes.  Inside, the place is void of runes except for on a large throne-looking chair in the center.  It has runes all over it, and there's a man sitting on it with a beard slanted to the right.  He has a peaceful complection with a bald head.  The man is wearing a cloak over some sort of robe.

Re: Avahur's Oasis

"Ok, well then, lets get started.

I am not from this world.  I was born in a different universe, with different laws of physics, and have become something called a verser. when I die me and my belongings travel to a nother world until I die, and so on and so forth.  I am not the only verser there are millions I'm sure, I don't know for a fact, but I've met 6 personally, and seen many others.  So I'm sure there are a bunch out there.  Perhaps one ahs been through here before.

Runeless in your meaning and Runeless in my meaning are slightly different.  From what I understand when you come of age you are given a rune or two? and I'm sure you can lose them by some process in which I'd rather not go into right now.  Since I wasn't born in this world, and since I had just died in a previous world I cam here.  And so, voila here I am, I ran into Dan and Michael when I woke up.. and after taking me to a river to wash my clothes, I came here.  I am sure if it can prove whether or not I am lying then I might as well tell you why we were at the river.

Now, I had to wash the blood that was on my armor off.  Yep 100% Human blood.  Eh,  my last world I was forced to be a high ranking military official's pawn.  That is something I really don't like, so I was forced to risk my life, not that it really matters since when i die i am healed and end up in a new world..  But I still don't like it.  So in my last world the place where we were at was under attack.  My friend died... not something you want to see.  A friend of yours being killed.  Not a fun sight.  So I got angry and started killing those that made me their pawn.  And so yep I got blood on me and washed it off when I reached the river.

I'll tell you what I told Dan and Michael.. I'm a fighter, a warrior.  I fight, and I kill its what I do to survive.  When you've already been to 14 other worlds excluding this one, you need to kill to survive.  So I fight.  Sometimes willingly, sometimes because I am forced to.  So i've learned a good amount of skills, and can do a lot.

Yep, no runes on me, so by definition I suppose I am runeless, but since I never had any runes to begin with, I am not, since runeless implies you had runes and they were taken from you.  So since I've never had any, I'm not really runeless.

I can do things that most people can't do, I can make fire, water, wind, and dirt when I feel like doing, as Dan saw me do earlier..  So yeah thats the basic story. next time you want to hear more of my life feel free to ask, wanna see what I can do, just ask.."

The man calmly listens to what you have to say, but then he replies with a stern look.  "I don't enjoy being fed foolishness.  You may stay with us, but only if you can get the approval of another village to stay there.  I refuse to house you in my village.  Dan can escort you to another."

He looks at Dan.  "Make sure he has no choice of fleeing to the Runeless just to fight against us.  Take him to Dekon or even Thanato if you feel like it is needed."

Then, you see a rune light up on his chair and a thin needle flies out of it towards you.  You attempt to move out of the way, but it ends up hitting you in your left shoulder.  You lose consciousness.

The next thing you know, you're with Dan and you're laying on your bag.  The two of you are by the river a short ways from the village.  Dan is washing his hands and doesn't notice that you've woken.

You feel groggy, but you can move.

Dan looks at you with a frown.  "I'd imagine that if you were from here, you'd know who the runeless are.  The runeless are the people outside of Oadia, living in the barren Runeless Lands.  They number in the billions probably, but their total force is unknown.  They constantly try to break through the gates at Thanato."

He slams his fist down onto the ground.  This is the first time you've seen him without a calm face.  He's full of angry passion.  "They are hethans that only want to spread pain and dispair.  Their only goal is to hurt us and steal our precious lands!"

He calms down some to answer your other question, wiping his brow.  "The places that I can take you to are either Dekon or Thanato.  Thanato possesses the gate of Oadia, which is the only entrance into our peaceful lands.  Every able man has to serve in fighting.  Sometimes Pior and Dekon are called upon to assist, but mostly Thanato can handle the runeless.  Dekon, however, is a peaceful place.  They have fighters, but mostly they irrigate.  Either way, you need to get a rune as soon as possible, so that you can be more identifyable as one of us.  I'll leave it up to you which place you want to go."

You and Dan continue along a thin dirt path towards the direction where you versed in.  You see some bloodied leaves from where you passed by, but the two of you continue on.

After about half a day's walk, you arrive at another 'village'.  Dan calls it a village, but it looks more like a barracks.  All of the homes are uniformly built near eachother in neat rows.  You have to crane your neck at a very large wooden gate that is between what seems to be two mountains.  You feel that if the gate were to fall down, it would crush the village from its size.

Dan nudges your arm to gather your attention and he takes you to what is a larger hut in the front of all of the living quarters.  Inside is a clean wooden floored home.  Dan knocks, and you hear a voice in the back of the home call, "Come on in.  I'm in my study!"

The two of you head to the back of the house and enter a room.  Inside, papers of runes and maps are all around.  There's a man at a wooden desk seeming to write frantically.  Dan touches his shoulder and the man jerks around.  He's wearing short sleeves and has scars on his arm, which are covered by runes.  You also see a large scar on his neck that leads down further, past his clothes.  He shakes Dan's hand, and then yours, looking you up in down with suprise, but still a smile.  "I'm Thanato.  That sure is an interesting outfit that you're wearing."

Dan coughs to get Thanato's attention and says, "I apologize, Cheif, but I must object.  Avahur is without a rune at the moment, though it doesn't seem like he is a Runeless.  He needs training before he can join fighting so soon.  I doubt that he'd be able to activate a simple capacity rune if he tried right now."

Thanato looks at Dan and nods his head.  "I see, well strike that.  You can be part of our newest unit, currently full of recent recruits.  They know how to work runes for the most part, but they still need some work."  A smile creeps on Thanato's face.  "We can equip you with a rune right now, if you'd like.  Before I became a Chief, I was a runesmith.  It's still a hobby of mine, if you look about the room."

You see that there are a great number of papers with runes drawn on them.

Then, he leads you outside.  "Now, you have some options here to choose from.  You can either join the fighting force right away by proving that you can compete with five pre-chosen soldiers, or you can go into rune training until you can beat the five soldiers or after at least 2 months.  I suggest that you take the rune training."

Re: Avahur's Oasis

He smiles again, seeming to be a habbit of his.  "Fine, we'll start immediately.  The team's already assembled for such odd occurances."

You're rushed to a makeshift arena.  It's an area in the middle of the camp covered in sand surrounded by 2 foot 'fences' of wood holding the sand inside.  It is much like a large sandbox.

You stand on one side, and there is one man on the opposite end.  Thanato explains that one at a time the opponents will be brought out to face you.

He says with a loud voice, "The rules are as follows, Avahur.  If you're knocked out of the arena, you lose.  You get a short break between every fight to catch your breathe.  Other than that, you will have to fight them all in a row.  If you're knocked unconscious, you lose.  We'd rather there be no bloodshed, but if there is a death involved, the winner is obvious.  Normally, you would not be allowed to use any runes other than capacity and one ability per round, but you don't have any runes.  Whenever you're ready, step into the arena.  The fight starts as soon as you touch the sand and only ends when you lose by one of the means priorly mentioned or if you give up."

The man opposite you steps into the arena.  He's in a green shirt with brown pants and unfamiliar shoes.  His pants are hiked up slightly so that you can see his thighs.  He has his right arm covered with runes, and a medium sized one on his left arm.  He looks fairly young, and a medium build.

I walk towards the center opposite of my opponent. When I hit the sand I know that if he charges, I will use my swords and fight, if he comes cautiously then I will attack from a distance with fire and water spells.

I move forward towards him.

He immediately starts running at you, but as he's running, he is tracing the room on his left arm.  When it finishes, he has a buckler of light explode from his right arm and it stays there.  He, still running at you, then traces a rune on his other arm and pulls a sword out of it.

He's almost at you now, a couple seconds until he's within range.

I grab my shortsword with my left hand, and get ready to fight with it, when he gets within range I'll use a fire spell with my right.  If he blocks then I grab my ninja-to and pullit out into him and fight with both weapons working independently, yet in harmony with eachother.

If he comes straight in, then as I unleash the fire I use my left hand attack, him on the left side, if he goes to block that leaving an opening then I use my foot and kick him in the chest, then unleash another small fire spell at him directly.

If he backs off or dodges, then as the spell continues I'll take that brief moment to put away the shortsword, and get ready to pull out the ninja-to, then I'll fight as I always do from then on.

If it starts to go on for a bit, then I'll back off and switch blades to my darker blade, and go for a slice at an angle from the bottom left to the top right.  Then follow up with my sheathe if I think I could get a hit off and it will aid the battle for me.

You pull out your shortsword and raise your right hand to release a fireball.  You see a medium-sized fireball appear in your hand and shoot out at the warrior.  He raises his 'buckler' arm and it fizzes, but still holds.  You think you see it vanish for a moment.

He seems shocked by the fireball, but continues.  He brings his sword down at you as you block with your shortsword.  During the block, you draw your ninja-to and cut him accross the chest.  It's a deep cut, but you know that with treatment that he'll live through it.

He falls to the ground, but fumbles backwards to make distance between the two of you.  He doesn't seem through with fighting.

"Not through yet? Well, this will definitely be an interesting battle..."

I put the shortsword away and grab onto the sheathe of my ninja-to.

Well, I figure I should do fine fighting as I always do, I'll put my sword back into the sheathe, then use all my training and skills with Battoujutsu, and quickly draw it and attack as I have always done.  I will fight from then on, and if he parries the first attack I will follow if with the sheathe and attack in the same follow up motion.  Then from there I will put the sheathe back into its spot, and throw a small fireball his way again.

However, if he finds a way to counter any of that, then I will have to improvise and attack as I see fit.  Perhaps, draw my shortsword out and fight with both weapons, if something goes wrong.  Also, if something else prevents me from doing that, then I suppose I'll have to just rely on my training and do what I can to win.  Since I won't be killing them, I won't use my shadow blade.

He smirks when you sheathe your shortsword and charges you with his own weapon.  He doesn't seem to realize the threat of your ninja-to that is sheathed when he gets into distance.

You strike him again in his already bloodied chest and he falls to the ground.  The buckler vanishes and the man's eyes closed.  He's still breathing, and people rush out to help him.  Thanato also comes and speaks to you.  "That's an interesting sword technique there, but it won't work on the others as well.  This man was one of our less experienced soldiers.  He could fight, but his mind isn't as quick as the others."

The next opponent comes out into the arena.  He has the same kind of sword as the first opponent, but a real buckler.  His armor is around his chest and down to his knees.  The rest of his legs are bare aside from sandals strapped to his legs.  He also has the same type of helmet as the original fighter.

The main difference is the runes on his forearms.  There are also two large ones on his shins.

Before the fight begins, he puts the sword accross his chest and bows his head to you.

After the bow, he bends over and touches the runes on his legs.  The runes glow and he runs at you.

His movements are very quick, and you estimate that he'll be on you in only a moment.

When he gets in range, I quickly draw my sword, and slice across his body, if it gets deflected, or he accepts the hit to counter with his own slice, then I hit him or his sword with my sheathe, depending on what happens.  From there, if he backs up, I put my sheathe away and and summon water on the ground in front of me, between us.

(The ground is Sand, right?)

I intend to turn it into mud, making it hard to move on and keep some distance between us.

If there is distance between us and the above condition can't be met at that time then I will attack his feet with water, then aim for his hands.

Should neither be able to be met, then I conjure some dirt and throw it at him, aiming for his face. He should close his eyes and that will leave me with an oppourtunity to strike, or if he doesn't and sand gets in his eyes, then I can strike, so either way seems favorable.

I keep ready to not take my guard down regardless of what happens.

He comes at you quickly and you when you draw your blade accross to meet his speed.

You feel it deflected off of his chest armor and he's knocked back, hard.  Your wrist hurts a little, but it's functioning.  The force needed to knock him back was quite a bit.

You then follow up with shooting water at the ground between the two of you.  It spreads wide and the floor gets damp.  It turns into mud almost instantly right before he starts to move again.  He moves to your right and foreward.  The mud catches his foot and his foot is stuck in that spot, and stunned by being caught, he trips face first into the sand.

He's trying to pick himself up.

I walk over and take a seat and drink some water. I then think about sensei for a moment...

*Flashback*

Sensei: "Avahur, quit slacking, you'll never be able to reach the point where I can teach you the ancient style of Hien Ken, with your current attitude.  You and I both know that unless you train every day, your skill won't be high enough with battoujutsu to learn it.."

Avahur: "I know sense--"

Sensei: "I'm not done yet Avahur, listen..  Don't you forget, Hien Ken, is an abandoned technique because it was said to be impossible to master.  I have mastered it, only first by training every day and learning new styles of techniques.  You need motivation, you need determination, and you need above all else, focus.  If you can't focus expertly at the highest levels, you won't be able to improve.  That is why we go through focus exercises every day, and why I've told you to train by yourself, to keep up and  improve your focusing ability.  YOU MUST FOCUS AND DON'T FORGET IT! ........  Now I'm done."

*End Flashback*

Yeah, thats what I need to learn, if I can learn the Hien ken, then I will be able to finally master Battoujutsu.  I wonder if any of the worlds I will visit will have anyone that has mastered it and can teach it to me... ahh well, I guess I'll have to ask a bit now.

When I am back and ready with my energy level back somewhat to normal, I head into the ring and take an offensive battoujutsu stance.

You change the color of your gear with ease.  The limit that you can change it is that you change your legs the color of the sand and your upper body a shade of green, like the trees behind your half of the arena.  The other side has mountains.  There are tan tents that are different from the color arranged around the arena as well, to disrupt your camoflauge.

Then, you attempt to change the other warrior's armor colors.  They start changing, but then you lose your focus in the process and fall to a knee from exhaustion from the attempt.  The exhaustion and failure hit you when you started to try and change his shield's color.

Impatient, the other warrior holds his sword out, "Enough, prepare for defeat, stranger."  And he charges at you.  He'll be on you in seconds.

Re: Avahur's Oasis

He shakes your hand and nods at you.

While you go over to use your artifact, he sits down and you see him touch his runes.  They deactivate at the touch.  In his seat, he is surrounded by some other soldiers, but they quickly disperse.

You head over to him, after the artifact completely heals your wounds.  You're still a little tired, but not very.  The other warrior seems more tired now than while he was fighting.

When you ask him about his sword's rune, he tells you, "This rune is a flame rune with the extension rune coupled with it.  However, I've had it modified so that the flame stays constant and condenses more for the release.  I use more energy over time, but it works quicker than having to touch the rune every time.  That's the same with my shield.  So, how did you disappear and reappear next to me like that?  Do you have a special speed rune or invisible rune on you somewhere?  It seemed like you had numerous runes to use those powers, but I never saw you activate them."

But I got training in other means through my travels.  I was able to disappear and reappear like that, due to some training a friend of mine gave me.  Here, this is something I teach a lot of my allies through my travels.  We are both a bit exhausted right now, so later try this out.  Concentrate some of your energy into your hands, cup them, and say the word, 'aqua'.  Something might happen, something might not... if done correctly it should do something like this..."

I cup my hands and say water and when water fills up in my hands I show him then splash some on my face.  I also make sure my armor and such is returned to its regular color.

Sweat forms on his face and he grows pale a little, but snaps out of it in about half a minute.  "Well, we should get you some runes, then.  If you want, I can talk to a runesmith to see if I can get you one right now.  I'll buy one for you, as payment for the skill you've just taught me."

He smiles some, but still looks suprised at the fact that you don't know his name.  "I'm Dolor, son of Eumus."

The two of you talk more as the two of you walk towards the runesmith and you discover that Eumus used to be the chief of the northern village, now named Thanato.  Eumus was chief back when it was called Eumus.  It seems that the villages are named after the current chiefs.  You get the feeling that he despises Thanato and is in a deep rivalry of Thanato's son.

Dolor seems to be in his mid-twenties.

When you reach the runesmith, he introduces you, "Tarn, this is...  What is your name again?"  He asks you.

The two of them talk a bit more and then Dolor touches a rune on his calf and pulls a small bag out.  He puts it on the table, and the smith gives him a curious look.  "You're not planning on paying in THAT are you?  Take that to the collector, and pay me afterwards."

Dolor rolls his eyes, "C'mon.  You know the market these days.  It's just after the battle times and it's too crowded.  We can be fair, right?"

Tarn shifts some, but then nods, gesturing at one of the many scrolls on his wall.  They all have runes on them.  The only part of the wall that they don't cover is a door into a room behind him.

Dolor looks at you, "So, what kind of rune do you want?  I'm willing to buy you a few capacity runes or even a minor ability rune.  What're you interested in?"

The ability list is a rather short, and is as follows:
Speed Burst
Force Increase
Sharp Hearing

The other list is about body effecting runes.  They range from changing the color of various parts of the body to growing and even changing the material that one is made of.  It has reckomended prerequisites for some, like one called the Stone Skin, which reckomends that you become light-weight and have a strength increase during.

The force increase is much like the speed burst.  It's usually located on the upper arm to increase the force of a sword stab or even hand to hand combat.  I'd reckomend that you don't couple the two in the same rune or part of the body."

Among the runes, there are some that change the composition of parts of your body (the skin changing to stone).  Other runes change your physical abilities, like an increase in strength or speed.

The runes that most stick out to you individually are: flying, invisibility, and a rune that makes you able to phase (walk through objects).  Those three are marked differently, at higher prices.

Almost every rune, unless specifically modified, have a limit on how long they can remain active to not cause damage to the body.  Once runes are activated, they aren't deactivated until the user deactivates them or the user is completely exhausted of power by them.  This loss of power has a 100% mortality if the user is drained of power.  That is why we have the limits on the runes."

I use my right hand while doing this.  Then I keep them levitating, and create fire and burn the flowers, then shote water on them to douse the flames.  I produce some sand in my hand and then create wind and blow it over the smoldering flowers, then I create and dump dirt on top of that.

After that I close my eyes for a little bit and teleport about 15 feet away. then turn around and walk back..

After you show them everything, they stand in awe of your accomplishments.  By the end, some people have thrown round, delicately carved blocks of different colored wood on the ground at you.  A crowd is also gathered around.  You count eleven blocks total at the end: two blue, four red, and five white.

Tarn is still in awe, and he says, "I believe that we can work something out."

He straps you down to the table by your neck, arms, upper arms, legs, stomache, and upper legs.  He tests the movement and you can't even move anything but your hands, feet, and head.

Then, the process begins first on your chest.

He does a process of cutting flesh with the searing hot blade and then putting the chalk in afterwards.  The pain is more excrutiating than you've ever experienced, but you bite down hard and are able to barely move at all.

OOC:  You receive a Resist Torture/Pain of 1@1.

After it's finished, it still stings horribly, but the wounds are filled and deep black.  They still burn from the black chalk.  The man says, "Don't use the runes, but try to remember where it burns specifically.  It might be hard to sleep tonight.  Good luck."  He lets you up.

I bow and unless anyone says anything, I go off to the tent and try to get some sleep and some rest.

He stops for a moment, "And when you're in the front fighting the runeless, I don't care if you get yourself killed disobeying orders, but you'd best not come back from such a battle with all of your companions dead.  Which path do you want to take?  Do you want to be a soldier in a few days or train first?"

When you enter the tent, you're greeted by three suddenly silent men.  They look at you, seeming to expect you to say something.

All of them seem younger, maybe 17 to 19 years old.  But still, even though they're young, they seem strong.  You can easily tell, and they all have the same rune on their forearms.  Other than that rune, they have a few other different ones on other parts of their bodies.

They continue to stare.

Once inside, you find that the tent seems twice the size that it did outside.  There's an empty corner of the tent with a floor cussion and nothing else.

After another moment, one of them gets up to introduce himself to you.  "I'm Hezenora, people call me Hezy, though.  Who are you?"

You lay down and everyone in the room walks over to you except for Nomen.  He goes to his own bed and lays down.  They look at the runes on your chest and arm when you take the shirt off.

Kiah finally speaks up to you.  "Wow, I've never seen a rune so intricate.  It must be pretty valuable, but I'm just some kid from Dekon.  I wouldn't know about high-priced runes like that..."

The conversation continues like that for a while, them talking about your rune.  Apparently, Hezy knows a little bit about runes, but not enough to draw them.  He only really knows a few symbols on capacity runes or the symbol for power on weak strength runes.

After a short while, they head off over to their own beds to sleep.

You find yourself asleep in only about fifteen minutes from when you start to try.

Then, a dream comes to you almost instantly.  A shadowy figure with messy hair down its face charges at you.  You can tell that it's human, but it disappears before impact.  This continues, until you're alone in the middle of dozens of them.  You feel like an army of these men are around you, and you hear a high-pitched screeching noise.  The others around you fall to their knees, holding their heads.

The noise persists for you too, and you wake.  It's still peircing your skull, and it's so bad that you don't feel the pain from your runes.

He goes over to a man and kicks him in the side softly.  He nudges the other man until he wakes up.  "Hey, Slank, wake up already.  I've got someone who wants to talk to you."

Your meditaion brings the pain on you down greatly, and you begin to feel the more fine-tuned locations that the pain is at.  You can almost visualize the complex symbols through the feeling alone.

After a while, you see people start to come out of their tents and gather in the circle in the middle of your unit's tents.  You see the captain standing in the middle of the circle and remember that his name is Ourano.

They are still confused about the concept of 'meditation', but they say that they'd like to know more, after the training is over.

They start again with the captain, and you leave the camp to visit the runesmith.  It's harder than you thought to navigate the forest of tents spread around, but you finally find the runesmith, who seems to be anxiously waiting for you.

When you arrive, he greets you with a wide smile.  "Come in, come in!  I cleared all possibilities of being busy today.  Please, let us begin!"  He has a thick piece of paper and what looks like black chalk.  The man is looking at you, waiting for something.

I go over to a wall and proceed to wallsit... "Trust me on this.."

"First off, I'll go through some basicl easy things that shouldn't take long to teach you.  I'll start with conjuring flowers, and changing the colors of items, such as the flowers.  After that I'll go into levitation.  We'll work on that for a little bit, and then I'll proceed into Fire and Water.  Fire will be as I showed you, producing a small flame and water, will be creating some in your hands.. Quite useful.  The purpose of the wallsit is for me to see how much endurance you've got."

After I finish explaining the wallsit, I wait about half an hour more explaining meditation, and why it might be important, and some good things that can come from it.

If he falls down during my explanation, I tell him not to worry about it, and I continue explaining.

If he manages through the entire time, then I congratulate him on it, and proceed.

After all the explaing has been done.  I teach him how to create flowers, and change their color, then how to levitate them.  I have him work on this for a while and provide any tips possible to help him through it.

"It'll work."

I take a deep breath..

"Here try this, it'll help.  Concentrate on your hands, forget all you know about runes for a while and take some of your own energy that you use to fuel your body.  You know how when you are out of breath you breathe in and out repeatedly, most likely you used up a lot of energy, and eating and sleeping, and time can help restore it.  Concentrate some of your own energy that you would normally use to bang a hammer, or punch with your arm, and keep it in your hands.  Just before you would punch, you store energy in your arm to bring it forward.  Its just about how well you can bring forth some of your own energy.  Don't get me wrong, it can tire you out very easily if you don't practice.  That's why I do such manevers as before, to keep my endurance up and allow me to expend a lot of energy before my body collapses in need of rest.  It helps.

So try to gather some energy into your hands, as if you are about to snap your fingers, but not quite yet, you can gather some enrgy in it, then snap them and say 'flamma' at the same time.

Try it."

"Like I said, it will work, you just need to practice.  There is a saying, 'The more I practice, the luckier I get.'  It is somewhat interesting, everyone is skilled in what they do, but when it comes down to fighting, is it skill? or is it the more practiced you are in your trade, you are just luckier than the beginners...  I suppose that is where beginners luck comes from.  But no matter, you made a small flame.  With practice you will get better.

Now again gather some of your energy and concentrate it into your hands.  Do what you did with the flame, except cup your hands and pour some energy into them.  Emotions I've seen play a role, when you are angry you tend to not have much control of how much energy you put into it, but it proves that it can be done.  This one time I taught this water creating one, and it didn't stop for like 10 minutes.  That was interesting, but that was in a place no one will ever see again, so it doesn't matter.

Pour some of your emotions, like anger or frustration into your hands, keep them cupped and yell 'aqua'  it should work, practice it you'll eventually do it.  While you practice I'm going to be meditating, so practice and see what happens."

As the two of you are talking about the next two spells, he takes notes on what you say about them.

After a couple of hours, he seems to have enough energy and tries them out.  He's barely able to summon a common weed in his hand, and he can't change the colors of anything.  After only that, he says, "I'm sorry, but we have to continue this another time.  I'm exhausted."  He gives you the paper and pen.  "Can you write down the rest of the spells that you know, and we can do private lessons another time.  For now, I have to rest."

He gestures towards the door.

I go in and explain a little about meditating.

I then hand him the paper and pen and proceed out the door to find a place near camp to meditate.

When you head over towards the camp, you find a nice tree that you can sit in the shade under.  Once you're there, you attempt to center yourself and meditate.

Slowly, you find yourself delving into your body, but you feel as if you hit a brick wall in the middle of your focus, and you open your eyes.  You hear a ringing noise again that reminds you of the time in the tent, but it isn't to the point of pain.

You see the camp and it looks as if the training time will end soon, but people are still training with their units.  You can see your unit.  They're all touching runes, tracing them fully.  It reminds you of your own runes, and you're in pain again.

You delve into your meditation once again, but after a few moments, the ringing in your ears starts up again.

After only a second longer, the piercing pain from the night before is present and the ringing blocks out any senses that you have.  You are forced to close your eyes from the pain in your head.

After a few moments of breathing and relaxing, the pain in your head is gone.

Then, you start meditating again.  This time, when the ringing starts, you notice the feeling of something reaching out to you.  You feel a pulling sensation and pain in your head.  Then, your head feels thick and like you're falling, until you feel as if the world just formed around your body.

You open your eyes and it appears to be night, but things don't feel real.  There are shouts down a path to your right, but everywhere else there's forest.  A small boy all of a sudden appears before you, but there's too large a shadow over him to see any features.  He points down the path but stays speechless.  In the same quickness that he appeared in, he vanishes.

When you start walking down the path, the screaming stops, and as you look around, the movements of the world seem to be backwards.  Then, you finally come to a clearing that looks familiar.

It looks like the river that you saw when you came into this world and took a break at.  There are huts all along it, unlike what you saw.  It seems very populated with people at the river laughing and working: men, women, and children.  They all seem to have a tan skin tone.

You look around and there is no bridge.  Then, things start to go through time normally, foreward once more.  You see a light flash and soar into the sky on the other side of the river, and people in armor are running atop the water accross, swords drawn.  Everyone on your side of the river looks curiously at the coming attack.

You try to shoot the flames, but right when they reach the other soldiers, the world around you collapses.  Before it's gone, you already submerge into Fury and you awaken to someone shaking your shoulder.  He's in the same armor as those in the dream and your body moves with the fury.

You draw your sword and the unsuspecting man is slashed accross his throat.  He gurgles some, but holds his throat.  He can't make any noise, and his eyes are fixed on you.  You recognize him.

It's Hezy from earlier, the one who introduced you to the others in the tent.  You look around and you see that it's dark, and that you must've been out longer than it seemed.

The two of you head back to the camp area, and Hezy heads back inside your tent.  You hear laughter in there when he enters.

Captain Uran is in the middle of the training area for his unit.  When you approach, he's in his armor and he puts a hand on your shoulder.  "Avahur, I can tell that you're stronger than Thanato seems to be able to tell.  I'm thinking of training you personally on how to use your runes.  I am under the understanding that you might know the basics of using your runes.  If you can prove yourself worthy in combat, I'll train you personally at night.  That is, if the pain from the runes isn't too much for you."

He walks to the other side of the circle in the middle of the training area and puts his hand on his sword, ready to draw.  "If you accept, charge me now."

When you charge him with your sword, you draw it towards him, and he pulls his sword out and knocks it to the side.  The force catches you off guard and your sword falls out of your hand to the right.

Before you can take your sheathe into your hand, he attempts to hit you with the blunt end of his sword; however, you're able to grab it before it makes contact.

You're currently holding the hilt of his sword, which is partially sheathed.

If he starts to back up, I also do, but keep my hand held out towards him, if he tries anything I cast Incendo, then when we are a decent distance away, while keeping my hand towards him, I use my other hand to levitate my sword towards me.

If while levitating, he attacks I cancel the levitation and attack him with fire.

Then I continue to levitate it over towards me.

You jump backwards to shoot the water out in front of him, but Uran closes the distance between you faster than you anticipated.  You barely wet the ground in front of him, and you wet his legs.

He continues to run through it, and his runes finish, his forearms and hands becoming stone, an inch thicker than normal.  He balls his right hand into a fist and punches into you.  It takes both swords, his in front and yours behind, to stop his attack's momentum.

You slide back a couple feet from the force, but stay on your feet.

You attack him with a constant barrage with his sword and yours, while he blocks the attacks with his stone arms the entire time.  Finally, you manage to slash him in his upper arms, and he frowns.  He knocks both of your swords down with his right arm, and then his left arm comes up into your chin.

Then, you black out.

Hezy, Nomen, and Kiah are above you inside of your tent when you wake up.  There's a piece of cold cloth on the bottom of your head, where you were hit.  Your weapons are to your right, and you see Uran sitting down at the foot of your 'bed'.
