Dougal and the Detective

You're working out on your katas, and from the smoke you smell, you can tell that the pizza shop next door to the dojo has a fire.  So the sprinkler system in the whole strip mall goes on, and people are grabbing stuff to tote out to keep them from being rain damaged.  One of the things you grab is your sensei's grandson's Game Cube.  Its already got water on it, but hopefully not too much, and you reach for the plug, and pull it from what you think is a safe distance.

An arc of electricity runs from the plug to the Cube, and and then outside, and into your arms before you can do more than begin to release it.  And then the Cube explodes with yellow globules and white light everywhere...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

A chill wind and the tweet of a whistle wakes you.  Which is strange because you remember it being quite warm that day.  You feel like you are laid down on somthing hard and stone-like.

Other than that, you feel fine.

Re: Dougal and the Detective

Oookaay... I have just been electrocuted inside my dojo, at least, last i remember i have just been electrocuted inside my dojo. Now i am lying on a hard stone, at least it feels like stone, floor! More to the point, i feel i could start my training again!

Doug sat up and opened his eyes. Looking around as he stood up he took in what should of been his Dojo. "Woah, thats... weird. Whatever happened to reality! That electricity must of fried my brain, now i am just some doolally idiot who thinks he sees..."

Re: Dougal and the Detective

...An alleyway with a couple newspaper sheets blowing in the nipping wind, and people in jackets and trenchcoats hurrying past the mouth of the alley as a few snowflakes drift out of the cloud-shrouded sky.

A New York taxi-cab, bright yellow, and inscribed with the name of the city buzzes past the alley's mouth as well, followed by a couple other cars.

Re: Dougal and the Detective

Well, it looks like i have just broken the world record for the standing jump!

Dougie ran down the alley to where he saw a yellow cab cruise past.

I am assuming he lived in NYC before? If so...
Doug whistled for a cab and got in giving directions to his dojo. Sitting back in the cab he started wondering what on earth was going on.

If he didn't used to live in NYC then i will obviously be changing this post ALOT

Well, thats up to you.  I thought it would be a different city, but it really doesn't matter.

BTW, this is one reason why I prefer playing 'I' characters as opposed to even normal modern day ones.  Much more detail is already established.  And it makes for much richer characters IMHO.

Re: Dougal and the Detective

ooc: Ok, so basically hes me as in in real life. Good stuff.  This post is overiding my one about the longest ever standing jump...

Now... i know i have always waanted to go to NYC, but i always thought i'd go by plane Doug half thought half mumbled to himself.

Dougal walked up to bypasser on the street and said "Hey there, er.. this IS new york city yeah."
The man looked doug up and down, saw his dishelved appearence, assumed he was a drunken bum and dropped a dollar into doug's hands.

I  must dreaming! Last i remember i was... grabbing that gamecube, with the sprinklers on. With heindsight, it wasn't the best thing to do i guess. So in that case, maybe i'm in a coma!! Thinking he was in a coma, doug stood on the sidewalk trying to come out of the coma. To the bypassers however, all they saw was a dishevled madman making weird faces. By the time he finished doug had made 2 dollars 31 cents from handouts! He bought himself a hamburger and wandered aimlessley through streets and alleys in deep thought about what has just happened.

A police car pulls up alongside you.

"Hey Doug, man, you okay?  You looked bummed out. Didn't wreck the Prime Government Chariot the City gives its beloved detectives did you?  Need a lift?"

The police officer has his window rolled down, and is cruising down the side of the road at walking speed with you with a friendly smile on his face.

"I can take you home if you like, or to the station.  Remember tommorrow night is bowling night.  We're going to crush the firemen."

"Okay, old buddy, it looks like you've had a few too many.  Lets take you home, and you can sleep it off."

Wary of the officers approaching him, Doug stepped back.
"A few too many! A FEW TOO MANY, five minutes ago i had just finished my martial training! I am not dru..." Doug paused and took a deep breath, using the mochzo techniques taught to him in jujutsu to calm the mind. "Ok, sorry officer, please. I havn't had anything to drink in the past 2 years! I am completely sober, please... test my breathh for alcahol and you will see."

OOC: I'm back.  Sorry about skipping yesterday. Sick a bit, and book stress.

IC: "Doug, Doug, enough is enough. Why last weekend at the bowling alley you were knocking them back while still doing a 250 game.  Look man, I know the stress of being a police detective gets to you.  It gets to me.  I smoke, you drink. Fine.  It helps us do our job."  Jeremy Winton says lighting up a cigarrette.

"Maybe, he's not joking, Jer, you need to go to the hospital, Doug-man? We can take you there on the q.t. so you don't have to mess with all the paperwork at the station?" Kyle Patricks, the other officer says.

"Sure we could, and tommorrow you can tell us the joke."  Jeremy says while Kyle maintains a more skeptical look, but accedes.  They take you to an apartment, and when you have no key, Kyle goes an gets teh landlady who opens up for you, and gives you a spare key to return to her after you get a copy made.

They leave.

Inside the apartment, it feels like...home.  But no memories attached to it.

Doug got up and had a closer look around the place. Everything was the same as he would of expected, but with just enough difference to make him feel really out of place.

He made himself some breakfast and sat down to eat it looking up at the clock on the wall.
4:13... I wonder what i should do now. i Know!

After Doug was finished he moved back to the lounge and switched the TV on till 7:00. Watching the familiar but also unfamiliar programs. At 7 he suddenly got the idea to go into work and went and got dressed in the other doug's clothes for  work and headed in.

Re: Dougal and the Detective

The morning show is dominated by gangland violence.  A brutal beating suffered by four people has left two men dead, and two 'in critical condition'.  The mayor vows again to 'get tough on crime'.  A well-dressed Oriental gentleman leaving his restauraunt suavely claims to 'have nothing to do with this, as you know, I am a philanthropist, but one must understand the source of the rage.  Otherwise, how can one stop it?  These young men, often immigrants from Free China, feel that they have no place in our society.  They lash out in regrettable but understandable ways.'

You arrive at a nearby police station after searching in the telephone book for the address.  You park your car in the garage across the street, and walk in.

He laughs, and offers you some hangover meds, and takes you to your desk.  It looks really neat, extremely so.  Which is not your style.

And then a lady with a dolly comes in, puts a cardboard box on your desk, and begins to take out files, and place them with precision on your desk.

She's got her uniform starched, and every hair in place.

"Excuse me, Detective Doug, I will be finished in a minute, and then you can have your desk back.  I wish people did not give me these rush jobs.  Can't do a job right if you're rushing."

"NO No no, take your time. But uh, could you remind me what case i'm working on and get me the file? I have had a rough few days and my mind is totally blankityblank!"

This is most definately a dream, there is some seriously crazy shizniting stuff going on. Yeah, i am now convinced i am dreaming. Well at least theres a fine lady in front of me, and hey... I must be dreaming in that way when you kknow you are dreaming. Thats cool, i'm gonna fly!

Doug suddenly stood up and got onto his chair...
1..
2...
3!

Doug launched himself forward, crashing into a desk on which someone was already at work knocking his stuff everywhere.

What the hell happened! I was meant to fly, maybe i gotta practice before i master this dreaming thing.

OOC: I'm going to have to disagree with you a bit...

You count this a dream, and leap into the air, and soar across the room.  So startled are you that you splat into the middle of the Most Wanted Posters, and slide down the wall to crumple at the base.

Priscilla comes running over to you.

"I, how, are you all right.  I wasn't looking when, you somehow got over here."  Her expression is puzzled, but concerned, and the others in the police room who also weren't looking, do finally turn your way, and after ascertaining that you're alive, they give you a Bronx cheer.

OOC: Well then, this is getting interesting, hehe.

Doug pulled himself up from his crumpled heap on the floor, taking Priscilla's hand and halling himself up. "Er... yeah! I, I don't think i'm seriously hurt. I just have a bruise on my leg and this ugly mug of a wanted poster sticking onto my forearm." Doug said as he ripped the poster off and stuck it back up.

Well, well, well. Tonight i'm going to have fun! But for now... i have always wanted to, 'Play Detective'

Priscilla checks your files.

"Well it looks like you were in the midst of investigating the murder of one, Carlos Santinni, 1745 Augustan Street.  Hmm, strange, this sheet says the case is to be considered 'cold'.  Not usual for a three-day old murder."

She hands you a sheet found in a manilla folder that deals with Mr. Santinni's murder, and its on top, dated yesterday, and not in your handwriting.

"Um, detective, I mean, I could help you, if you like.  I've been hoping for a chance to move up from record-keeping."

"Well. I'm not sure what the higher ups will say, but sure. You can lead and i'll follow, give you advice and the such if you like. Don't worry  i'll be with you the whole way, just you decide where to go and what to do unless you are seriously missing the point." Doug said as he handed her the sheet. Hoping he got away with sounding like he knows what he is doing.

"And if you do well, i might even let the higher ups know!"

"Great!"  She sorts through the papers, re-arranging things to her liking.  "Okay, it says here that Carlos Santinni was found in a dumpster near the Hudson River.  He had assorted small paper items in his pocket.  He was beaten to death, neck broken was the initial assessment.  Hmm, now I see why its labelled possibly cold.  Detective Stefan thought it likely it was a suicide by jumping."

"Well then lets go visit the morgue.  I think the victim's effects would still be there."

You visit the morgue, walking past several filled body bags, and get some help from a clerk who brings out a yellow envelope, and dumps it out on a table for you to examine.

1)Keyring with three keys.
2)Still wrapped fortune cookie.
3)Ticket stub for Lakers game--shredded.
4)Gas Credit card

6)License
7)Folded up map of Chinatown (one sheet of paper) with phone number on the back
