Amanda Athwart

Dreams of roses turning into marigolds with Aussie accents as they sing football songs, and then into carnations with English accents as they sing "God Save the Queen", and then into sunflowers as they sing "The Cats in the Cradle", and then into trees whispering silently in the breeze....

Hey, thats real.

You open your eyes, and you're in a mature forest dotted with hickory, oak, and something that shimmers silver.

There is very little undergrowth.

It all somehow seems familar.

I open my eyes and look around for Oak and the others and then quickly realize God heard my prayer and took me instead of Oak, I pray and thank the Lord for his miracle. I then stand and look around the forest and see what is around me, if I see anyone and what I am wearing?

Re: Amanda Athwart

There is a sense of reassurance, but softer than in Radix or in the Lost Temple you just left.  But there is also not the overwhelming feeling of crushing evil that was in the Temple. Instead, peace and serenity drift down around the tall trees.

You are wearing what you had on in the Lost Temple (which is probably armor, a sword...)

And then you hear a sound coming down a path that curves through the trees twenty feet in front of you.

Du-boing! Broing!

Tree leaves shake slightly.

Re: Amanda Athwart

Its a wonderful forrest, the air is clean, the grass is springy underfoot, the daffodils are in bloom, and you reach the narrow earthen trail, and see going around a tight curve, a bouncing orange shape. You only catch the faintest glance at it before its gone.

Again, that sense of deja vu, of strange perspective comes back to you. You know this place somehow.

Re: Amanda Athwart

Something orange and quite rapid comes bouncing up to you on the right, and you spin to face it.

It yells "Friend!" And then it hits you, knocks you over, and over again in a full somersault, and you land again on your back with it on your chest.

Its orange, whiskered, about three feet tall, not counting the long striped tail. Your brain is having a hard time processing the image because your brain keeps insisting it doesn't make sense.

Still, it feels like you got hit by about thirty pounds of dough, or maybe bean bag so your body disagrees with your mind.

And the picture snaps into place.

"HI Friend! Who are you? I'm Tigger! And the wonderful thing about Tiggers is I'm the only one!"

"I was just looking for my bestest buddy, Pooh. I've already checked by the bridge, and I was on my way to the old oak, but I got distracted by a good bouncing section of the north trail. You know."  He jumps off you, and helps you to your feet.  Despite his small size, he's quite strong.

"Um, which way is north?" He asks, and then sets out toward the east, or the rising sun in any case. "Can you bounce?"  And he starts. "We'll find Pooh, new friend Amanda, yes we will, because Tiggers have a great sense of direction."

You feel no pressure in your mind, no deep need to solve a problem in response to your prayer.

"Oh my. Oh me. Another human. You wouldn't happen to have some honey now would you?" A cunning look crosses Pooh's face as he wonders if you have honey hidden in your pockets, or perhaps your shoes.

The bee buzzes into it, and you see other bees following it, coming from every point of the compass.

You blast a hole in the tree with your force blast, and then carve it neater with your sword. The TK does not seem to be able to create the hole you're trying to make. It feels like it wants to move the whole tree, and since the tree is attached, the whole 'earth?'.  That does not work.

Tigger goes and fetches the new queen and her thousand attendants who move in with a proprietary air.

Pooh gets himself three jugs of honey, a large one for  himself, and two smaller ones for you and Tigger. And then he apologizes and offers you the larger one.

Despite Eeyore's predictions that Christopher Robin had caught the flu, and wasn't going to be able to come for two weeks, or that he had grown tired of playing with his friends (particularly Eeyore which was completely understandable), you spend several enjoyable hours with Pooh, Tigger, and Eeyore before Christopher Robin comes traipsing into the meadow.

He hugs Pooh first, then Tigger slams him to the ground, and then he gravely shakes Eeyore's hoof, until at last he turns to you with a small smile on his lips, and perfect courtesy, he bows.

"I am Christopher Robin. Welcome to the Hundred Acre Wood. I feel we shall have such good times."

You also pick up lots of small skills from the various adventures you engage in, and the small tasks you help with. You learn how to make a bark toy sailboat to race under the bridge, and learn more about gardening by helping Rabbit with his carrots.

You also add @1 to your running as you seem to run everywhere.

2@1 Religion skill
+1 Education from all your talks with Owl (this is an attribute like Strength and Willpower).
Endurance +@1
Agility +@1 (these are also attributes).
Your running has improved +@2 more.
Your TK and Telepathy have improved to 1@10 each. You're going to have to up your level of practise to get better (crossing the line from 1@10 to 2@1...2@ skills take twice as much effort to improve).
You've picked up a host of small skills, and are now vastly familar with the Hundred Acre Wood.

They are dressed in tunic uniforms of blue and capri pants of black.

Behind them, there is an obvious supervisor type who is exhorting her workers on to harder work, or so you think. You can't hear her because the machine is so loud.  The machine is what is raising the dust cloud.

And then the cel phone on your waist rings.  Immediately, the other girl leaps to her feet and bolts into the forrest.

Lifting up the machine is not hard, repairing it is a bit harder, but you manage.  The machine starts up and heads back the way you want it to.

It runs over the tent, and then vanishes ten yards beyond it.

The portal doesn't close. In fact, you hardly move it, and you're grateful for a second because the massive energies involved seem dangerous to handle.

But you reach out to your mind, and switch places.

You're suddenly in the Unknown Door in Pooh's Wood, and you're falling through into clear air.  Sky and earth exchanged places, once and once again as you tumble earthward, head over heels. Far above you, a Door closes and vanishes.

You transform into a fairy. The transformation comes with great ease.

You see a skyline below you that looks vaguely like New York, but not quite. And like in the Hundred Acre Wood, it feels familar, but not as strongly so.

The City's tallest skyscraper looks to be about fifty stories tall, and a bit antique. Perhaps it was built in the Sixties. Or perhaps it is the Sixties here.

You are somewhere between a thousand and five hundred feet above the tallest buildings. Its hard to judge distances with your lack of experience with flying.

Men are dressed in suits mostly, and a sizable minority in jumpsuits with company names on them. Women are mostly dressed in skirts.

You see one man that glows with a golden light, and precise crystals orbit him.  Another man is bathed in a green light.  A woman has a glowing crown of metal on her head.  All that is visible in your Holy Sight. To the unaided eye, they merely look healthy and good looking.

Surface thoughts from people...
*I could go for a hot dog, all the way, chile, jalopenos, onions...*
*My boss is a jerk. My boss is a HUGE jerk.*
*Wait taxi, oh, please wait. Oh, man, this stinks.*
*Metropolis Zoo or the Legion of Justice Park? Kids like the elephants at the zoo...*
*Whoah, she's hot. Now whats a good line...*
*Dear God, what am I going to do?*
*Now it was 'get the toilet paper, the milk, the eggs', and I'm forgetting something...*
*How am I supposed to get three contracts finished in two days? Grrrrr.*
*Little old lady, heavy purse, no one looking her way...*
*Hey, there's a fairy creature. She's cute. Maybe I can ask her to play with my dollies.*
*Ow, my arms hurt. These bags of cans are heavy. I hope Sheila's impressed.*
*He looked at me funny.*
*I wish I was like Superman, then I could fly over this heavy traffic.*
*Hmm, this sign says Cooper Street, that can't be right. I'm never lost. Well hardly never.*
*If I borrow ten k from the bank, and get Simone and Deaver to help pitch in, we could start a t-shirt shoppe.*

The crystals look very orderly and otherwordly. The green light has the feeling of massive power and infinite potential. The crown is obviously that of a princess. And they all seem familar although the woman most of all.

Re: Amanda Athwart

Your prayer leads you to the Legion of Justice Park in midtown. Its surrounded by skyscrapers, and is about fifteen acres of greenery, swings, ponds, walking paths, hedges and trees.

But all the children that should be playing in the park are standing over on the sidewalk.  They look toward the center of the softball field, and you can see nothing there, but you can feel something awful.

A man walks up to you. He's tall, cleft-chinned, with startling blue eyes. He's incredibly handsome, and very fit. You think he's one of the people you espied earlier.

"What are you doing here? Who are you?" Its not a polite request, more of a demand for information.

Over his shoulder he speaks.

"I am Doctor Fate, Lord of Order. The children sense something evil coming through, and are worried. Perhaps you can get them to get back further."

He floats away toward the softball field.

Re: Amanda Athwart

You get most of them to move back, but one, an older teen merely smiles and pulls out a domino face mask. He offers you one, and slips one on his face. He touches a ring on his hand, and a costume oozes out of it, to cover him.

"Hi, I'm Robin, Boy Wonder. Bats is on his way. We've noticed that you vibrate at the same frequency as this gate to another universe."

The gate over the softball field opens, and the great-granddaddy of the wrecking machine you encountered in Pooh's Wood rolls out on its van high tracks.  Cranes fitted with ten yard long swords, rocket pods, a giant bulldozer blade in front, and a cannon mounted up top forty feet above the ground complete the mish-mash of destuction ordered up by FOE, Ltd..

Rockets stream out and Fate is hard pressed not to become steak tartare as he throws up a shield of yellow light.

"Oh, welcome to Metropolis."

You're in another story. Only this time its not Pooh's Corner, its Justice League.

"Begone!"  The machine fades out, banished from this reality.

Dr. Fate and Robin both turn to you.

"An explanation of why such a powerful sorceress is in town at the same time invaders from an adjacent reality try to make themselves bothersome would be pleasant." Dr. Fate says evenly.

"He's just mad cause you saved him." Robin says.

Suddenly all the church bells in the area start to ring.

Robin looks about, and puts a hand on the ground for a few seconds.

"No earthquake."

"No mundane cause created that effect." Dr. Fate says. "Very well, we will accept your credentials."

"I suppose we need to check things out? Or do we just close the door, and rig alarms?" Robin asks.

"Our new companion, Amanda is right. This door will not close easily. I fear we have to enter into the darkness to grapple with unknown foes on the other side before we can make our City safe."

Something roars overhead, and you look up to see a crystalline shape like a jet. It lets the light through it. And then a woman jumps out of it, and plummets toward you.

She crashes feet first into the ground, raising a small cloud of dust, and punching two small holes in the park which she conscientously fills back in before walking over to your trio. But before she arrives, everything stops moving.

A man in a shiny business suit climbs out of the gate. He's waving a white flag.

"Flag of truce. Guardian, I'm a negotiator for FOE, Ltd.. We'd like to discuss putting aside this recent unpleasantness. There's no need for you to continue doing the Sidhe's bidding. You have a chance here to fundamentally alter your wealth quotient, if I may be so bold."

As he speaks, he walks toward you, looking around with an acquisitive glance at Metropolis.

"Now, lets not be hasty. My Boss would be unhappy with me if I turned aside so easily. What do you want? We could recreate a world. After all, we're taking this Story Energy, and reshaping it anyways. Perhaps you tell us what bubble universe you'd like, and we could make one to your specifications? And besides, we're going to win anyways. You know what the plans for this world are? We're going to replace the Justice League with a world based on the Adventures of Al Capone. Personally, I find it rather tacky. Come up with something, I take it back to Development, tell them to get cracking...wa la, we're both happy. Re: Amanda Athwart

The energy pours out of you in a white light that sends him staggering back, shedding bits of darkness, until he plummets into the Gate.  The world starts moving again, and your energy rocks the Gate as if it had physical form.

This gives Wonder Woman an idea, and she has you pass it on to the rest telepathically. Robin will stand in the center as bait and deterrence against any invaders.  Meanwhile Wonder Woman will spin her lasso wide around the mouth of the gate.

You are to shove the Gate into Wonder Woman's lasso, which you do with your 'white fire', and once Wonder Woman yanks the lasso tight, the Gate closes, and Dr. Fate seals the gate with an Ankh Sign that leaves an echoeless boom vibrating in your mind.

All seems well until a Door into space appears in front of you, and swings open. Fate assures you that the masters of the Door are benevolent as far as he can tell. Once on the other side, you're in a space of infinite shape not confinable to one form, of lights, and sounds that combine the more than matter can hold.

A woman of great height and beauty appears before you.

"We/I are the Sidhe. Creatures of pure imagination. You have protected two of our Dreams made Matter, Pooh, and Justice League."

You see a core of white fire like a galaxy below you, and around it are ten thousand stories, each in its own private realm. And around them, in the Dark are the Enemy of which Foe, Ltd. is a subcontractor.

" I am not ungrateful, but you dealt with our Enemy under flag of truce and you struck him. We cannot be untrue or we cease to exist. So we must dismiss you from our service with our thanks. You have little time for another mission awaits, but also because I, I mean We/I....already your mind bends me to a specific form. You would make me Titania, Queen of the Elves, but We/I are so much more."

The Blessing is that the Sidhe will remember you fondly, and consider you a friend.  The White Fire miracle is 1@2. It moves one person with great force, but not great speed away. It is also effective against energy objects like 'gates'. It requires a great deal of personal energy and so it tires you out.
