Post Ludum: Kate's World

This is for comments on the playtest of the Last Planet.  I think it went pretty well, and Kate did a fine job. Any weaknesses, or notable strengths, etc. in the structure of this world?

I can see some things I might do differently, and this is the first time I've used this world, let alone as an introduction world to the Multiverse.

I might not have done this as an intro world (some of you get intros, some like Misty and Jesse haven't), except I believe the player wanted horror, and I think that got delivered.  More so than I expected, although I should have seen it coming a while ago, but the flip side of being an improv gm is not foretelling the future that well.

And a riddle, who is the guy with the violet eyes?

Re: Post Ludum: Kate's World

For me (and Kate) it was a good introduction to what has happened to her.  All the clues as to what she's become are there to be peiced together.

Of course-- it was too fantastic for her to accept and so she realized that this wasn't so much a dream, or even the afterlife... she was clinging to the illusion that she was alive.

It was letting go and accepting what she thought happened.

Too bad she was wrong :)

As for the guy with the violet eyes...I'd guess he's a really cute death.

Done at Kate comes calling; and true, but more specifically, he's the being from which the idea of the Good Death comes.

Thinking about the immagery that went with the sample kiss, I can see that.  Heroic deaths, death after time... with loved ones around... not alone.

Makes sense

Re: Post Ludum: Kate's World

I like the thread.  It was very spooky/cool.  Kate, you did it much better than I could have.

Each of us would have his or her own idea of what qualifies as a good death.  Misty isn't the type to go down without a fight, after doing all that she possible can to resolve the hopeless situation.  She is the one who would remain behind in the pass to delay the pursuers to allow her friends time to get away.

Re: Post Ludum: Kate's World

Thanks.

Under normal circumstnces, so would Kate, but right now-- right now she's just beginning to accept that life as she knew it is over.  And then she has to come to grip with the fact that it goes on.

For me the hardest part was making sure I didn't let her catch on too quickly.

Re: Post Ludum: Kate's World

Even though I told playtester I wanted to avoid horror I liked that thread. And you definately played it much better than I would have. I am fairly new to rpg and I will freely admit not a really creative writer. I don't think I could have done that thread justice. You guys amaze me with your writing. I can only hope I can be half that good after I get some experience under my belt.

Re: Post Ludum: Kate's World

I just read over that thread after I posted in "Jesse Jumps In" and noticed that Kate beat me to the Coma theory by about a week. Doh! Oh well, great minds think alike, huh?

Re: Post Ludum: Kate's World

I liked that world, if not for the fact it paid homage to those that have played before, but for how alien it was. Kate played it how a normal person would play it in that situation. There are stages for greiving, and death, and she pretty much covered them all. As for me, I probably would have tried any magic or psionics, and try to botch learning something, that's usually how I verse out of worlds. My last verse out was the only time it wasn't do to a botch to me, but a very bad GE roll and wanting to play in Why Spy. Overall, it's a great starter world, as everything and everyone is dead, so it sends a shock to the person, who will either accept their new life,or explain it away. Either way, might be a alternate to the tropical island start.

Re: Post Ludum: Kate's World

Jhiaxus,
I probably will write this world up, and then present it, in toto, to the GO community as another Intro world.

One of my worries is that I offer too much knowledge, a kind of Monty Haul of knowledge as it were.

And I hope you enjoyed seeing "Jhiaxus, Lord of the Orcs." on the wall.

It was indeed cool, would have prefered "Land of the Orcs" since I didn't presume leadership over them :) I just organized them, if they looked to me for leadership it wasn't forced and wasn't a Lord/Vassle relationship, I worked with them not worked them :) Anyway, I just got "Guns lots of Guns" in his Keannu Reeves voice.

Re: Post Ludum: Kate's World

Interesting world, very well roleplayed by Kate.

I enjoyed the notes from previous visitors (too bad I joined too late to sign in :).

I think I enjoyed reading it more than I would have enjoyed playing it.  Haston was a better choice for me as a first world, rather than this one, or the volcano one.  PT does a great job of not only GMing, but also choosing worlds for folks.

With the infinite possible alternate worlds out there, it seems improbable that this one world would attract so many different versers.  What are the implications of this?  Are some worlds more likely to end up as random verser destinations than others?

Re: Post Ludum: Kate's World

I put considerably thought into choosing the right world for the right person.  Of course, with yours, it was moderately easy.  Your singing skills, and Christian background just cried out for Haston.  MJ, who also has singing skills, and a Christian background, also really enjoyed that world.

Of course, thats a novel series derived world...although I am making a variant that is sellable...but its got Athena and Ares instead of God and Satan as the duelling powers.

As to your question...yes.  There are theories, but no conclusive facts.  Some speculate on 'scriff spots' or 'scriff pools' with scriff leaking and scriff being attracted to scriff so people arrive at similiar worlds.  Others speculate on weaknesses in the worldwalls which make extradimensional entrants more likely at certain locations or dimensions.

There is also the effect of certain versers being loosely associated with each other which means they might visit and revisit with each other down the ages.  Not every world, but off and on.
