Post Ludum: Lilith's World

Misty really surprised me with that last tactic of hers.  And now for a couple questions.  What did you think of Lilith's world? What was going on in Lilith's world?

Re: Post Ludum: Lilith's World

Wow!

And again I say... wow.

Makes me think about cause and effect, and the laws of physics:  "For every action there is an equal an opposite reaction."

Thank you Sir Issaic Newton.

1) The world.  The world had depth, color and mystery.  It was one of those worlds that almost looks like home until you realize its very different.  And at first the world and the people were interesting and surprisingly kind.  I thought I knew them, but then the layers started to come away and you find that some of the layers are rotten.

They feared Lilly feared the storm that echoed her pain-- pain they gave her.  If they had truly taught her, guided her... protected her... would she have been as dangerous... instead of pretending to do these things, what would have happened if they really had?

2) Misty's end run.  I knew she was up to something... for the life of me I dind't know what.  I knew... I hoped she couldn't hurt Lily, and she didn't dissapoint me.  But to get the gems, and I forgot as they did, that if you died, what you had would go with you... It wasn't a bluff-- it was send off.

Very impressive.

As for what was going on... I still don't really know... layers within layers, and possible future targets.. since they too can transcend worlds.

Wow!

Re: Post Ludum: Lilith's World

Thank you Kate.  I'll hold my comments until later. after everyone has weighed in.  I did have a couple of questions which might bear a bit of thought and discussion.

Considering that the medical nanobots are a product of an advanced and slightly bioengineered society...

1.  ...would the bots 'restore' the injured person to the levels which they have been preprogrammed?  (Think Lily ver. 1.1)

2.  ... and given that the brain of a massively powerful psion would be different from the 'normal' parameters, would the nanos 'restore' the 'damaged' brain to a less powerful level?

Re: Post Ludum: Lilith's World

1. I'd say no. Its already complicated enough of a job to make general healing assemblers..having them be able to do more would imply a society capable of mass general nanotech...which would not need the Conneticut Yankee.  Besides, I read one nanotech guy who pointed out that versatility was the enemy of power.  That is, he thought there would never be general assemblers because specific assemblers would always be more efficient.

2. This is a harder one, particularly based on the secret reason Lily has her psi powers.  They might...of course, some psi's might not have a noticeably different brain...I'd say Jesse's brain still looks relatively normal.  But it might be one of the last things they would fix, and by that time, Lily is more than capable of defending herself...besides, she truly does have probability altering powers on a subsconscious level which means she would get lucky and probably not have a problem, but again, if she did...I pity the nano's.

Kate,
Hmmh, I think she could have been guided through it without the world destruction feared.  Lets say the chief bad guy had 'issues' with Lily.

I think in a way, I gave Misty what she had been discussing...normal looking world, but with a dark secret...of course most of the world was just fine, if weird.

Re: Post Ludum: Lilith's World

It was interesting, not my cup of tea. I have a habit of either staying in peace mode or war mode and I don't switch easily, it just depends on what mode I'm in when I verse in that happens :).

Ok onto the wurld: I am a fan of Psionic Worlds, as they are rare enough, even though this one is more twisted than most. My only question what was with the worse enemy in the story, who brought that memory into reality, that's the only thing I didn't get.

Re: Post Ludum: Lilith's World

Victor had the ability of creating mental illusions, along with a couple of lesser abilities (clairvoyance and minor telepathy).  One of the facets of his illusionary ability was that most humans had some vestige of psi, and so he is able to get people to use their own psi on themselves...thats how he killed the burnt up pilot.

He had tried to learn pyrokinesis, but ended up burning himself very badly instead.  Indeed, he's still obviously scarred from it.

Let me ask another question, a leading one...who's Lily?

Re: Post Ludum: Lilith's World

PT, I loved this world.  I got to meet some very interesting people, pick up a few new toys (like a second Glock and a holsterable machine pistol), get a great send-off bonus for my warchest, and resolve a very sticky situation of how to reveal the assassination plot, save Lily, and still get away with avoiding that whole slow torture thing.

Thank you.

On a related note, did you get to the links in my private message yet?  I hope they help define the elements of the subject involved for you.

Re: Post Ludum: Lilith's World

No, I haven't.  But I definitely intend to.  Busy, busy.

You also picked up some psi skills which should be useful.  If I'm remembering right, a Read Surface Thoughts and lets call it a Psi Static Balloon which has the effect of making any psi attacks more difficult in the protected area--which is quite a large volume.

Lets tell the tale of Lily...

A young girl on Earth who was raised by a pair of negligent parents who were drug runners/users in Brazil got a dose of the same drugs herself.  Perhaps a bad dose.  Her parents died from it.  She changed.

Her grandfather, the numero uno drug kingpin in Buenos Aires, took her in, and despite being a very bad man, he treated her with wonderful kindness.  His nickname was El Presidente because he was so powerful.

But the girl was not entirely happy because she felt like a freak.  She could do things no one else could do.  So one night she dreamed of a world where all of her family had these powers, and where everything was wonderful.

And when she woke up, she was there.

Yup, thats 15@10 Psionically Create Universe.  This is not a dreamworld, but an independent creation.

Things were different here, because this universe was created in the level of knowledge of a young Brazilian girl, not well educated.  And the people here worshipped their Creatrix...Lily, or her full given name...Lilith.

She repressed the knowledge that she had come from another universe because it was far nicer here.

But some of her family figured out what she was, and they became afraid she would destroy the world in a teenage fit of pique, and ...enter stage right, the verser...

And thats the tale of Lily who had nothing to do with Adam's wife, or with a pagan goddess.

Re: Post Ludum: Lilith's World

Still, Misty couldn't kill a child, not even that one.

My only regret about Lilith's World?  Misty didn't get back to that dress shop to pick up two more identical dresses to replace the ones which were in her suitcase in the destroyed plane.  I have a feeling that a slinky black dress is a necessary  weapon in her new world.

And it looks like from reading Misty's thread that she had much of this figured out.  I'm curious how soon.

Re: Post Ludum: Lilith's World

From the second that she got a look at the street.  How?  Two reasons...
1. The cars. (Packards)

2. The streetlights.  (No modern high tech, very bright bulbs)

Misty is a detective and I love noir, even neo-noir.

Re: Post Ludum: Lilith's World

No, I meant Lily being Lilith.

However, on the noir bit, I've been tempted to run a true black and white TV world like that movie, but I'm actually trying to run a fairly normal world for you this time.

Although I like the late '30's better.  That way, I can have nicely dressed people talk about "that Mr. Hitler isn't all that bad a person.  He has some good ideas."

Holy plot twist, Batman! Who would have knows?! One small question: I kinda forgot what the x@y meant, but... I take it that 15@10 seems like a uber ability, yes?

Re: Post Ludum: Lilith's World

Time Magazine did vote Uncle Adolf as Man-of-the-Year in Jan 1939, for the year 1938.

The closeness in names was a tip-off, but it wasn't until the "Real World" comment that I finially figured it out.  If theirs was real, what was Lily's?

Re: Post Ludum: Lilith's World

Wow.  Great story, and great roleplaying.  I loved Misty's resolution.  And I really liked Lily, so I'm glad she survived.

I'm not usually as much a fan of contemporary settings -- I prefer elsewhen (both past and future settings).  But psi worlds are pretty neat.  And Misty's threads last a good long time, so I feel like I get a chance to see and understand a lot more of the world, rather than just scratching the surface before a premature ending.  This one was satisfying.  :)

Re: Post Ludum: Lilith's World

Oak, I'm glad that you like the world.  I did, too.  For me, the very cool thing about the ending to Lilith's World was that PT and I ran through it in just a couple of days.  We were here at the same time and did multiple posts.
