Avahur In Time

Images of your previous world flash through your mind as you clear your lungs.  The taste of blood, your own, lingers somewhere in the back of your mind.

As you open your eyes, you see that the night sky is in full boom; a full moon brightens the area.  The smell of fields fills your nose, and you realize you're in the middle of a field of wheat.

Re: Avahur In Time

As you look around, you spot what looks like a barn a fair distance off (a good few miles).  As far as you can see, crops fill the fields.

Off in the distance you hear a motor, and spot a shifting glint of light in the sky, almost like a twitching star.

Re: Avahur In Time

I finish recording the evenets and I head toward the barn, I figure that there might be some people there so I can find out when I am and where I am.  Perhaps the history of the past few days should it have been odd...Also I want to check to make sure I don't have to deal with any monstrosities like vampires, wherewolves, or zombies.  I hope they are regular denizens of the area or if not maybe some people that can get we some weapons or food considering I haven't really ate in a while.  My stomach yells at me for it and I continue walking, perhaps I can find something on the way...

Re: Avahur In Time

After a few minutes of walking, you realize what the noise was: a helicopter.  Its searchlight spins across the fields and eventually settles on you.  When it does, the helicopter moves into position roughly 20 feet from you and ropes fly out of its sides.

The next thing you know, someone is shouting and men dressed in black are jumping down the ropes; you spot large rifles strapped to their backs.

The man slaps the handcuffs on roughly.  He takes your ninja-to, but doesn't spot/bother with anything else.  "You'll get this back if command says so."  He takes you to the helicopter and shoves you onto a seat as him and the other soldiers hop aboard.

The helicopter takes off, the searchlight now turned off.

"Yeah, sure, if it will make you more comfortable."  You're lead into a bright white room with a single table and a chair on each side.  One of the soldiers undoes your handcuffs, seats you, and then stands at attention (with your sword) at the other side of the room.

A few minutes later, a man walks in with a clipboard in hand.  "Ah, another time traveller," he muses to himself as he closes the door (which you hear lock shut) and takes a seat.  "My name is Carl Zirlfowski.  Yours is?"

You walk past various offices and a lab in which several people in full-body suits are moving in virtually slow motion.

You walk down the corridors until you come to a lounge-like room in which half a dozen men and women dressed casually are mulling about.  One of them (a young man) spots you and walks over, a look of recognition on his face.  "Avahur!  It's you!"  He shakes your hand energetically.  "Ah, I told them you weren't a time traveller.  I told them you were right!  Did the listen before they brough you in?  Noooo!"  His speech is quick, energetic.  He realizes he's been shaking your hand for a good ten seconds and stops.

"John here is one of our top psychics," Carl informs you.  "He told us you'd be important to this program, although we don't know how yet."  John nods enthusiastically.

You go to the lounge and see a few people inside; no John, however.

Having no luck there, you go into the elevator and push the button.  Cheesy music comes out of speakers in the sides, and the elevator rushes down for a few seconds before stopping and opening its doors on another hall.  If you didn't know this was another floor due to the sign, you wouldn't of been able to tell either.

John stops shooting and takes his own earmuffs off.  Hearing your footsteps, he looks over to you slightly surprised.  "Oh?  Carl let you go already?"  He chuckled quietly for a second.  You ask him about how he knew of you and he replies: "I knew from the dreams.  All the psychics get them.  They're strange, and we often can't tell exactly what they mean, but yours was exceptionally clear."  He grinned sheepishly.  "Well, at least that you were important.  Doing what, I don't know."

He offers to show you a bit of pistol firing, and you jump at the chance.

You pick up a pistol and aim it down-range.  You fire, and the shot hits the edge of the target (not actually hitting any point areas, just the white surrounding area).  John shows you how to adjust your aim, and you fire again.

This time, you manage to hit the edge of the outermost ring of the target.  John nods, telling you it takes time to get decent.

Okay, we're going to do a time jump here and you have a few options:

1) Train mostly with guns, focusing on your choice (pistol, SMG, rifle, or sniper) or multitasking a bit

2) Train on your own with stealth and shurikens

3) 50/50

Or something else if you wish.

Well, I choose choice C.  I figure that since there is a time lapse I have already sought out and talked to people about the mentioned weapons and that I have some skill with them.  I orginally planned on seeking people out anyway so in a time lapse I assume I did so.  Now that I have some skills I need to be able to use them efficently with the ones I already have.  So I will work with guns, but I want to use guns while being stealthy.  To get in and out without being noticed.  Being able to get the job done while being as quiet as possible.  I need stealth and guns so I will split it like 60-40 or 70-30 to work with guns more but stealth as well.  Also, I assume that in a time lapse I already had been practicing with all my skills new and old.  So the way I see it, practice makes perfect and practice, learn, and train I shall do.

All right, then.  Over the next five weeks, you get to know the staff fairly well (armoury people, kitchen, psychics, etc. etc.).  As well, with gun training, you...

Gain reasonable (a bit below police officer) proficiency with pistols
A similar level with SMGs
Similar with rifles

You gain an amazing proficiency with sniper rifles.  You shock everyone who knows you with your rapid speed.  Pretty soon, you even surpass the level of the resident sniper!  Although, not by much, to be fair.  Essentially... top military level.

With your stealth training, you...

Gain an incredible proficiency with concealment.  Guille suits and the like become like a second pair of skin and you quickly reach a similar level as the other professional snipers there.

OoC: You gain more, but my little brother is giving me **** about not getting off the computer so I have to cut this short, sorry.

>_<

Re: Avahur In Time

Haha.  Remember that this is very specific, however.  You have to have some sort of natural cover, and if you try and move you're going to go VERY slowly if you want to stay quiet.  When you're still, however, with the proper equipment you'll be nigh invisible.  Think of how snipers camoflouge themselves... that's basically what you've mastered.  Anyways...

You get a bit better with your shurikens, now being able to hit the target with every throw standing and at least some of the time while jogging.

Your speed at pulling your sword out increases (basically you got a bit more dex).

Any other skill remains stagnant (or if you really think something else should improve let me know in case I forgot it).

Now, then...

You're sleeping in your bunk, comfy in your new pyjamas (purple with pink poka dots!), when the lights turn on and an anouncement comes through the speakers.  "Would all group D members please report to the briefing room?"  You've been a member of group D since you showed an unusual proficiency with the sniper rifle, and you recognize the name as the organization's primary recon team (although they aren't used very much).

Re: Avahur In Time

I wake up, get my gear on and head over to the briefing room.  If iI see any other group D members on the way I plan to ask them what is going on.  I mentally ready myself by going into a more combat aware state.  That way should anything happen it wont shock me and I wont get surprised easily.  I should be ready no matter what they say we need to do.  (I figure anyone can really do this, but after a lot of training in generla I suppose it is just something that one would naturally pick up...spending time in a military base, its expected I would think)

Re: Avahur In Time

As you walk through the halls, you come across several other team members including the team captain Joseph Burns.  No one seems to know exactly what's going on.

When you arrive at the briefing room, Carl and John are already inside along with several other important-looking gentlemen who you don't recognize.

"Sit down, everyone," Carl tells to your group of roughly a dozen.

OoC: One last note about the gun skills: yeah, you have them in training, but in a combat situation you don't have nearly the same level of experience as anyone else, so don't come crying if you start missing.  ;)

Re: Avahur In Time

OoC: I wont, but remember I have been in combat before, so I expect that Avahur is atleast ready and knows what he should compensate working on when doing stuff in battle.

I sit down and listen attentively soaking up all the information and thinking of anything that would aid me or my squad in any way shape or form.

Re: Avahur In Time

Your group sets up around the table; not seemingly in any order but that doesn't seem to bother anyone.  The lights turn off and the projector comes on, displaying a grainy photograph of a fiery object hurtling through the sky.  "As some of you may already know," Carl starts.  "The amount of time travellers entering our dimension," he pauses, realizing this was new information as well.  "I'll get back to the dimension bit.  Anyways, the amount of time travellers from the Iconocracy has been increasing steadily.  Various other governments, especially the Chinese and British, have been shooting them down at sight."

Carl cleared his throat and then continued.  "Now, upon further probing, we have learnt that the travellers are also coming from an alternate dimension.  First they travel to our dimension, and then come back in time to our time.  Either way, it is unimportant."

"What's important is that it's getting worse.  As of late we have been building temporal force fields," a picture of an artist's conception of a giant 'bubble' type 'shield' over North America came on.  "They prevent the travellers from gaining access to our time.  The only problem is that... well..."

He looked around the room.  "We don't have everywhere covered yet.  And it seems likely that a larger group of travellers has just landed in Nevada.  We aren't exactly sure, but if they have arrived there then they are dangerously close to one of the generators located at Area 51.  Your mission is to investigate the supposed landing area and find out what's really going on.  Any questions?"

OoC: Yes, that's true.  But one thing to consider is that professional FBI agents (who have more pistol skill than a lot of military guys) miss 2/3 or more of their shots in an average firefight (poor lighting at 10m or so).

The Iconocracy is the government in the alternate dimension, by the way.  Avahur will of known that by now.
