Gamemastah's Trap

I've already written up some of these rules, with help from a friend of mine, Edward Carroll, but I need more.

One idea is that the universe is flexible.  Most things don't exist until Ralphie turns his mind to them.

But, Ralphie doesn't just create and discreate spirits at random.  No, he incarnates a spirit in a body, it gets killed or ignored out of existence, and the spirit returns to the Waiting Room.

Thus, you could slay an orc many, many times over the course of your career.  But, only the smarter creatures, such as dragons remember past lives well.

Any more ideas, or tales of insanely bad gamemastering?

I'm still going to do one that Kelly Tessena of GO told me "You are drugged, and fall unconscious. Now what do you do?" was her GM's query.  I can see Ralphie asking this.

Re: Gamemastah's Trap

Is this just a world for the game master to be evil?

:D

Well, you could always have a monster be incredibly tough and take a while to beat.  Then, at the end...

You find out he has a wristband of rebirth that causes him to ressurect immediately.

I've thought of doing that to one annoying player of mine (but settled on a lvl 40 troll instead).

That is a classic... but doesn't that fall under Stupid PC Tricks, rather than Stupid GM Tricks?  :)

Re: Gamemastah's Trap

I think I am going to like Gamemastah's Trap, now that I know you can defeat Ralphie, I have a goal, to do so, without letting him know I know. Which means a lot of kissing up and brownosing, which I despise, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Re: Gamemastah's Trap

Well only a really terrible gm would drop you there without giving you at least one, and more like several ways of defeating Ralphie. Y'see, Mal, its not about being an evil GM exactly, its more about making fun of one.

Ah...

But... you still get to be evil, no?

You could always throw in the random explosions for no apparent reason.

Re: Gamemastah's Trap

Random explosions are good.

Kinda, Mal.  You get to be good playing at being evil.  Or to put it another way, you get to imitate the insanely bad GM, but with all the facets of such involved (immaturity, low levels of cleverness), and once your avatar is caught out, you let him get caught out.

But, it can be viewed as letting your evil, insane gm side out...with supervision.

Bloodquest uses a different exp system, that is, whatever I feel like....and it uses a double exp for every level gained so l2=l3 cost twice as much as l1=l2, and of course, the stronger you are, the less valuable the creature is.  So for a L5 dwarf to slay an orck is worth hardly nothing.

Re: Gamemastah's Trap

It's funny...

No matter how bad the situation I throw at them, I always have an incredibly obvious escape option for them (spot roll of 5 or less, ALWAYS).  None of them even bother doing anything but hacking, though... even after half of them are knocked unconcious.

*shakes head*

I mean, Avahur, remember when you got killed by the samurai?  The forest was to one side and the cart the other.  If you had looked around, you would've easily survived.

*wasnt thinking*

besides...the way I had imagined the terrain you described like I said before. there wouldve been a good amount of space and it was different to how you are explaining it to me right now.  so therefore I didn't take that option.

Re: Gamemastah's Trap

I'm sorta curious how complimenting Ralphie works out, will he be vein and take credit for "directing" us to the volcano. Either way, should be more fun now that I have to walk a fine line between collecting the items, and making Ralphie think it's in his benefit, that we are just the peons that have no clue what we are doing. Trapping the Gamemastah! :D

Re: Gamemastah's Trap

I rolled a GE roll for it, but not good enough.  In my experience Ralphie like GM's tend to be vain, yes, but also focused on where they want you to go now.  WHile it is possible to get what you wanted, it requires a say '8' or less GE roll.

Re: Gamemastah's Trap

From a gamemechanics standpoint, was placating Ralphie the reason for Siljonic entering, or would that have happened anyway. Just trying to get a feel for what decisions other than dealing with the traps/monsters/room have on the gameplay.

Re: Gamemastah's Trap

For a short moment, Ralphie saw you as a fellow GM, one he trusted, thus he temporarily lost control of a little bit of his power as he relaxed.  Ralphie, being the paranoiad that he is, keeps his power tightly under his control, and he uses the mental model of a rubber ball for his power...so it occasionally gets away from him.

Re: Gamemastah's Trap

Interesting, so flattery and manipulation do get you something every once in a blue moom. (I was thinking it was a GE roll between 9-12 for being allowed to the volcano :D). Carry on :)

Re: Gamemastah's Trap

Well, they allow the chance for a GE roll...and Ralphie is susceptible to some degree to manipulation.
