Re: OOC Thread V

Heads up for Brock and Glantri, I am incapacitated by illness and have a wedding to attend this weekend, so I probably won't be posting until maybe Sunday at the earliest. Sorry.

Re: OOC Thread V

John, I've told you several times in several ways why I don't like Magehammer.  You didn't listen then, why should I bother to tell you again?

Don't you think it a bit strange that in a multiverse of infinite diversity and unlimited possibilities, every one of your worlds where a player lands has Magehammer in it?

First off, I may not have gotten it then, but I might get it now. I've always been a slow learner. You might say something that will click this time. So why not explain it again? Nothing to lose right?

Secondly, if you want to get technical, that was in my game and you didn't have to reply to it at all. If you really don't care, then why are you answering me in the first place?

I'm learning. One of the great things about learning is that you are bound, nay, encouraged to make mistakes. It's how you learn.

Re: OOC Thread V

Misty is right, multiple people have told you why we don't like supercharacters or magehammer multiple times and you refuse to listen. If you want to give it another chance to sink in go reread it.

And don't ask for people's opinion and help and then snipe at them for answers.

And I would venture a guess that magehammer didn't work all that well with Krillis either. It didn't seem to from reading it at least.

Re: OOC Thread V

I believe nothing is a total loss if you learned from it. Even if all you learned was to never do it again. I think I might be there.

I can't reread it, since Oak deleted those threads. Only way I can reread it is if it gets typed again.

I didn't mean to "Snipe" at anyone. It's just replying to tell me you're not going to answer is like waking me up to give me a sleeping pill. If you're not going to answer, why reply in the first place? Haven't you seen Bambi? If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

I thought it worked well with Krillis, and I'm allowed to think that.

Re: OOC Thread V

Three Posts

Misty, perhaps it would help if we traded perspectives on the situation. As I stated, I wrote that world you were in for Krillis. Krillis had met Slidehammer. (That was "Slider" to most other players) Krillis already had a strong dislike for Slidehammer, and he knew what was going on with him. Krillis had the magical means to undo all of the damage that Slidehammer had done, and he had 2@1 living off the land skills, so he can most definitely take care of Samantha.

You, on the other hand, had none of that.

Doesn't it stand to reason that you need someone who can explain the situation to you? Who can explain who Slidehammer is and who can give you the means to undo all of the damage he did? I mean, seriously, would you have preferred to remain ignorant of the situation and not have the means to undo all of the damage? Would you have preferred that?

So there's my perspective. Now please give me your perspective.

Then why did you reply to it in the first place? You replied to tell me you wouldn't tell me anything useful. It's like waking me up to give me a sleeping pill. If you didn't have anything useful to say then why did you say anything at all?

From my perspective you needed someone who could explain who Slidehammer was. Would you have preferred to not know? Would that have been better?

John, please just stop saying the same things.  Due to your...  excesses, that game was deleted.  Therefore, it never happened.  We never happened.  Please stop talking about what doesn't exist.

I'm back. Sorry that it took so long. The wedding...and its afterparty...may have delayed me slightly from my recovery.

But nonetheless, I have finally returned and I'm stoked to start posting again!

Krillis, do you think you might pick our game back up? Hey, it's been a while, your situation might have changed. No harm in asking right? You will always have an open seat at my gaming table if you decide you want to.

Re: OOC Thread V

Misty, if you won't answer me about the supercharacter, will you at least answer me about the world scenario? What did you think of the world? I'd love to run it for you again. Sort of a do-over. This time though, you would be the only supercharacter in the scenario. I'm almost positive you would say no, but no harm in asking right?

I've run maybe a half-dozen players in a handful of worlds. I'm still a rookie referee. Forgive me for making mistakes. It's how you learn.

In reply to Krillis (msg # 80):

Too bad. That was the world I was really looking forward to running for you. You got to see Samantha downgrade. From Super Samantha to not so Super Samantha to first verse and scared out her mind 8 year old Samantha.

I remember you said it didn't really make sense for her to have the same fighting style as you do. It does if you were the one who originally taught it to her. Eventually 8 year old Samantha was going to ask you to teach her to fight. So it would have come full-circle.

Yeah, good song.

I'm sorry really. I suffer from multiple mental illnesses and I've always been a slow learner.

Vancian Magic

I'm talking to Person A about Jack Vance's magic system (which underlays in a crude, degraded form D and D) and Person B about high level characters, and well Vance's magic does seem to lean toward HLC's.

Note: I've only read one of Vance's novels, perhaps his last so I have 1@1 in Vance Knowledge.

But I told Person A I'd like to try to write up a Multiverser world based on Vancian magic.

Points:
1. Magic is based upon mathematics, but in the collapsed Empire, we have barbarian looters who don't understand, not really, what they have.  Its like a child of Mad Max's world being faced with an Ipod with a solar cell, and finding out he can play Angry Birds on it if he holds it in the sunlight.  Why? He doesn't know. Can he program,or make it do other functions? No.

2. Spells are few in number, and have ancient histories of being modified over the millenia by this wizardd and that wizard.

3. Magic devices are bizarre and largely unique.  No one makes new ones.

4.  Magic botches are common, and reversal of effects on a varying scale is one of the more common botches.

5. History lingers on.  "In the Woods of Arasgorf, where the Wizard Alaci first used Alaci's Fiery Dispersal, the defeated Horde of Mongorik took to eating the vatz berries for starvation  beset them, but this berry was such that it twisted mind and body, and even now the two, and three headed, the five legged, the uselessly winged, and the faceless who hunt by smell throng the Woods, and beset any travellers for the vatz berry if consumed on the Night of the Five Hundred Year also grants immortality, but of a kind not to be wished for as it also gives madness and pain.".....Eric.

6. Wizards, that is those with a sufficient skill roll, to remember the mind-twisting and long images and words of magic, speak their magic, and this erases the memory so they can only learn a few spells of varying sizes per day, and must rely on spellbooks.

7. Because of the difficulty of creating new spells, and the hundred spells that exist, the best way to get new spells is to trade, but that is hardly chosen.  Instead, assasination of rival wizards, and theft of their goods are the most common ways to add more spells.
