"I imagine we can find time to fit that in, progress is going well"

-------------

"Hail Magnus, it looks like the gathering is coming along nicely.  The storage area has been finished, and I think with these 4 trees I may be close to having enough lumber to finish up. Shouldn't take long either. I'll finish this up and then perhaps we can get the wrestling demonstration in. It would be easier to do it before being out on the water."

My idea for the rudder system is to have it fury controlled, creating it supple and then so that if I need to woodcraft it I can touch the boat anywhere and manipulate it and since it was created with that in mind hopefully it should listen fairly easily.

"That's good, I always enjoy seeing new Martial arts."

================

"I'm glad to hear that. Unfortunately I haven't found anything we can use to make rope or sails with. But we have plenty of food for now. Yeah, a boat isn't the most stable surface to practice martial arts on."

You finish up with the 4 logs you got it locks like 2 more would get you that rudder.

"The beach seems like it would be the best place to show your wrestling. What do you think?"

"We'll just make due without the rope or sails then, thank you for looking"

"The beach will work well enough, I'm going to need a couple more logs, but let's do the wrestling first, it'll be a nice break after getting the food loaded"

After helping load the food, I'll move onto the beach sand and demonstrate the stance used for cave man style "For this style, keeping a low cg and good balance is the most important part. You'll be trying to both keep your opponent from being able to pin you and put you in a bad position, while doing exactly that to them. Both of which require good control over your weight. It normally leads to a choke out, either until unconscious or dead."

After Magnus adopts the style I'll walk him through the slap ability:
"This move is utilized to put your opponent off balance, leading in to your more critical moves. It doesn't have the most impactful defense, but you aren't exposing yourself much with it either. It's good for probing at what an opponent is capable of."

Next will be the pinning attack:
"The purpose of pinning is two fold, it makes it more difficult for the opponent to strike at you effectively, especially with a non wrestling designed move, and also sets you up to bring them into a choke hold more easily."

And finally the choke hold:
"With this one it's obviously important to not carry it the full way through when demonstrating, so I'll just demonstrate up to having the connection established and then let go. The purpose here is pretty simple, you constrict your opponents airway until they either tap out or go unconscious, or die."

I'll go through each move performing it, and then having Magnus perform it on me until he is comfortable with each and then move onto the next. Once we're done:
"And that's what I learned from the missing links, it's simple but effective, and works great at close range. Let's take a small break, and then you mentioned demonstrating your style?"

He mimics the stance and you can see that he is very close to what you are doing. after a few minor corrections he gets it. You go though the other skills and he picks them up quickly although he already knows how to pin and do a choke hold.

"Yes, Of course."
He takes a break with you then starts showing you his style
He takes up a stance reminiscent of a boxers but a little lower to the ground.

"This is your basic fighting stance. nothing Fancy but a good mix of offence and defense."
He then shifts out of it. And guilds you into the stance and shows you how to move around wile in it.
He then shows you some basic strikes. Jabs, crosses hook and uppercuts for your arms. and some basic kicks like flip kicks and crescent kicks.

"Here are some stronger kicks that will make the fight go faster if you can make them hit."
He then show you the round house kick and a side kick.

"Let's work on these for awhile until you are used to them."

OOC: I'll get you the stats for the style and maneuvers soon. Do I need to go into details about what the kicks are or are you already familiar with what those martial ares moves should look like?

OOC: I'm familiar with all of them well enough, and the description of when to use them coupled with the numbers related to the style and moves is fine.

At  the end of the practice I'll bow slightly to Magnus and thank him for showing me. "Thank you, you are quite impressive with regards to picking these moves up quickly, and I appreciate the introduction."

After a breather: "So I'm going to need two more trees for the rudder, and then the boats good to go. I'd like to go chop them down and bring them back today so I can finish up quick. Mind giving me a hand?"

He scratches the back of his head
"I get by"

He responses to your request by saying

"Sure, I'll chop a few trees down for you. It'll anger my sword a bit but it will get over it."

The two of you walk back to the clearing and he draws the Zweihander out of the sheath on its back. You immediately notice that it is made from a blood-red metal that makes no sense from a material science perspective. More things are unnerving about it though. For one you can Feel the blood-lust coming from the sword and a desire for battle. For Another you can also feel the sword getting angry at Magnus's intent to use it to cup a tree down.

"What size do you need?"

"Huh, perhaps it's best not to anger it..." I say with a bit of the fear at the sense of bloodlust creeping into my voice. "Just a couple more of the size I already managed should be enough, we'll just do that. My sword isn't smart enough to care." Said with a half smirk, using humor to fight back the unease the sight of the sword caused.

"Perhaps just help me carry them back? I'll cut two down and then we can each carry one, makes for easy work"

I would rather not anger it, I've been though a lot with it. But, it feels like your doing all the work. I'll carry Both the logs. at least that way it would be more even."

I focus and recenter my thoughts, driving the fear away "it's ok, just caught me off guard. I'll gladly take you up on the offer of carrying both, but rest assured I appreciate everything you've contributed, it's all about accomplishing our goals in the most sensible fashion."

After cutting down the trees but before walking back "So I should be finished by tonight or tomorrow morning, is there anything you would like to handle on the island that we should prioritize? I think we're looking pretty good all things considered. We could always set off before the eruption, which would decrease our risk at little cost as long as we're done with what we need the island for."

As mentioned, I'm hoping to finish the construction by that night, early the next morning at the latest, but short of communing with the volcano which seems to be a bad idea. Although not one I've completely ruled out, I don't have much I want to sort out on the island.

"Not that I can think of. Your good with the wind spirits. Can you use them to fly? If so, you might want to try getting the Fire Spirit in the Volcano. There in't much risk if you cause it to erupt. Because you can fly away and get to the boat and we'll sail off."

I smile at the mention of flight, it's one of my favorite activities at this point. "I can fly, not as well as some, but better than a lot I knew. It's a good idea, and I've been considering it while I've been working. It's likely to be a big fury, but that would also make it quite useful to claim. I'll try it tomorrow morning, after a good nights rest so I'm not struggling with any crafting exhaustion."

------------

When I wake up the next morning I'm going to spend a little time stretching, and then relaxing and embracing the furies around me. Just getting my mind ready, focusing on all the furies present, but paying special attention to the local fire furies and they're temperament and attitude. Once done with that I'll wave to Magnus as I set off on huge hike towards the volcano, "I'm off, I would suggest being on the boat and ready to go within half an hour. If this goes bad I'm going to be coming in like a storm and making to leave fast."

When I get to the base of the mountain I start exerting my crafting out towards the fire fury of the mountain, compelling them to follow my will and come with me. Shouting, "Great Fire Fury, hear me. Come, follow my will and we will grow in strength together. I can offer you that which this land can not, the ability to travel, interact, and grow. You are already strong, as am I. Together we will be stronger." Through which I'm lacing fire craftings to infuse passion into the words, just as much to hopefully prove my worthiness and potentially effect the fury.

"That makes sense."

He goes and cuts down a long pole and strips the branches off it.

----------------------

He waves you off and pushes the boat into the water, jumps in and uses the pole to push the boat out.

----------------------

You climb up the mountain and reach out to the Fire Furies.  You can feel their passion and desire to spread. They Follow you and you sometimes see sparks spontaneously ignite in the air.

You call to the fire fury. And It bursts from the ground. A Large Ape compose of Fire. It looks angry. And It rears back and beats it's chest in a challenge.

I brace myself, assuming the stance that is both for my wrestling style but also, since it was learned from the ape like missing links, a good posture for denoting that I'm an alpha and beat my chest in response, a carefully measured response to be just slightly more than he did, but not much more. I want to assert I am the alpha, and that he should follow me. But not as a subordinate but as a near equal. All the while I'm pushing my fury crafting influence out, both to attempt to convert him to follow me as well as to keep dangerous levels of heat from burning me.

"I can feel your desire to spread, and I can relate to that. I offer you that chance. Without me, you can spread over this entire island, a mighty and grand domain may it be, it has limits. I know how to traverse the oceans, I can lead you across the water furies that would smother your passion without letting them touch you. But I offer more than just that. I have been to Worlds beyond this one, and will take you with me to see and expand in them. Lands where your kind as revered for the truly powerful being that you are. If you just will follow me."

At the end of which I extend my hand, and also extend my crafting senses to offer a degree of welcome and passion for exploration and learning. I am attempting to demonstrate that I have the power to stand before him, the means to bring him to otherwise inhospitable locations, and that I have and understand the passions and desires that are all so important to fire furies.

Well. Apes are a all together more primitive being than the missing links. so it Doesn't understand the concept of equal. You do feel like it likes your passion though.

It leaps at you with it's fist reared back and tries to punch you. But you leap out of the way as it hits the ground with its fist. There is a explosion and it is in a crater.
There is a ominous rumple from the volcano.

I take the moment after he attacks to launch one of my own. Mine is an assertion of my will however, in the moment of confusion after the attack I'm attempting to force my fire crafting will through to assert control over him. At this point I've demonstrate my desire by being here, my passion by my actions, words and temperament, all that's left is to show him my power.

As such I'm focusing on avoiding his attacks and after each lashing out with my mental abilities. I'm using windcrafting to give me the speed to avoid the hits, although I'm not manifesting Hermes, and I'm using firecrafting to assert control.

Your first mental attack slows it down a bit but it comes after you with speed that nearly matches your own. The first attack glances off your arm and leaves a nasty burn and nearly breaks your concentration. But you assert your will and slow it down some more. The next few attacks you barely avoid. But he is slowing down more from your fire crafting attacks.

It stops. nearly kneeling from your attacks. But it is still defiant and trying to stand.

You take to the air and start heading towards the boat. You immediate notice that there is a blue light source coming from the deck. As you approach you see Magnus kneeling next to to a circle of blue light. It's so blue that it hurts your eyes and make the normal sea blue seem pale when compared. Your fury senses read it as something like wind and water but it's nether.

When you land Magnus grins and you feel space warp around the boat and suddenly you are out in the open ocean. Magnus's head is suddenly wreathed in blue lightning and he collapsed on the deck unconscious. He is bleeding from his head.

I quickly rush to his side as my source of adrenaline switches from running for my life to helping an injured friend. First aid from my time in scouts rushes through my head as I take my sword and start making strips of a clean shirt and start using it to control the bleeding.  I've crafted too much already today to risk trying to heal him with fury crafting immediately. I will try and delve using watercrafting to diagnose the extent of his wounds however.

Said quietly while working on all this "well you weren't kidding about your magic, it's certainly powerful and looks to be dangerous currently. Stick with me Magnus, I'll get you patched up" this is as much to combat shock by giving Magnus a voice to cling to as it is a method to keep calm and work through it all.

He's bleeding from a few open wounds on his head. You cut some strips of shirt and use them to slow and stop the bleeding. You see an explosion in the distance. look petty far away.

There is a circle carved into the wood where Magnus was working. It doesn't really make sense to you. It's a fairly complex diagram with various runes carved in strategic places. It's not glowing blue anymore.

After about a minute he sits up and mutters to himself
"heh, I'm not dead. That was a pretty bad backlash though. Glad it didn't happen in combat."

I sigh in relief as Magnus sits up. "Thank goodness, i can try healing what cuts you have, but if none are life threatening bandaging them and waiting until tomorrow when I'm well rested would be better."  And with that I sit down on the deck and chuckle a bit. "Pretty big explosion over there huh, but I think I managed it. He seemed to challenge me to survive at the end of our encounter. I believe he'll honor our deal, in which case I just gained a powerful fire fury."

"Thank you for being so prepared by the way Magnus, I don't think I could have moved the boat fast enough with crafting to avoid that all."

After a bit, I'm going to mention turning in early to get some sleep, I'll investigate our surroundings in the morning.

Come morning, once I'm refreshed I'll use my wind crafting far seeing to scout the horizons and look for land as well as look at how the volcanic island is. I'll also try to commune with the woods furies for a while, no purpose in mind other than to effectively introduce myself. We're going to be interacting for a while I suspect and it would be easiest if they cooperated.

I'm also waiting for my fire fury to appear, although I know It may take longer if I'm not near any fires and I may have to go to one to help him along, but starting a fire on the ship seems sub ideal so waiting until landfall it most likely is.

He pokes one of the wounds on his head.
"What do you know, that actually hurt me. Must have been a fairly decent backlash.
Anyway I wouldn't worry about it if I where you. I should have this healed up by tomorrow. I shouldn't explode if I take it slow and steady.

Eh. These Islands always explode for some reason. I figured you where going to cause it somehow. So I decided to have it ready to go. Besides even if you didn't cause the Island to explode, going several miles that way would still be useful."

You feel a presence near you that is like Hermes but more passionate and firelike.

You try your windcrafting based farseeing and note nothing on the horizion except for the remains of the island.

I smile, somewhat reassured due to Magnus's apparent comfort with the level of injury, and trust that he's right and will heal fine on his own

"So exploding islands are a little more common in this new life I guess." Chuckling at my own joke. "It's definitely a lot to adjust to, but it definitely has given me ample ways to learn new things which is nice"

Once I feel the fire furies presence I'll mention to Magnus, "Well it looks to have worked at least, the fire fury has decided to join my journey, I can sense his presence. I'll need to come up with a name to call him. I think I'll name him Zeke, feels appropriate for some reason."

After looking out and seeing nothing I'll call Magnus over to take a look through my far seeing, holding my hands out to allow him to see through it. "Looks like there's no land other than that island in sight. And it's going to take quite a while to cool down, and much longer to be habitable again. First order of business should be getting those seeds planted and see how much I can produce in a day through woodcrafting. After we have our sustainable food source established I say we pick a direction and I start trying to watercraft the ocean to take us in that direction. Oh and I'll finish the beds, desk and seats in the rooms as a break from the otherwise heavy crafting required with everything else. I think it'll be easier in terms of effort but just complicated which will be nice to try."

So to sum that up, my plan over the next several days consists of:
Establish garden on deck using seeds and ground that was gathered before departure.
Pick a direction to travel.
Go below deck, to the point closest to the water, and exert my influence and try and use that to move in chosen direction.
Finish furniture in various rooms on days where the heavy crafting is strainer me a little too hard.
