Looks like I don't have much time left. I'll start rushing while following the silver cord. Hopefully I will find him before it snaps.

In reply to Magnus (msg # 503):

You chase him as the cord fades, and as tiredness sets in, you keep on until you find him looking confused.

"Who are you? Where am I?"

You can see the cord fraying even more rapidly and you can see he looks like he is in shock.

"I am Magnus and we are... Probably in the astral. You removed yourself from your body and you are fading fast. You NEED to think about your family and remember
your connections to your home. Imagine how sad those you nlknow would be if you disappeared. Please come back with me. Please accept my help."

I reach my hand out to him. If he accepts my help and grabs on, I will gently try to strengthen him and strengthen his connection to his body. Then start pulling him back to his body. Reminding him of his friends and family as we go.

Re: Magnus and the Mountains

You pump energy into him, and as you do, you feel yourself weakening, but then something happens.  You feel new depths opening in your soul, and greater strength rush up to meet the challenge, and then even better, he starts circulating energy between the two of you so that both of you grow stronger together. Awareness floods back into his dim gaze, and he and you fling yourself back down into your bodies.

Gain +@1 Willpower and +@1 Intuition as you feel yourself both stronger in spirit and more understanding of yourself and thus the rest of the world.

You've popped back into the normal world, and you and he find yourself laughing with relief which the others join in as well.  As G. Washington said 'nothing is so charming as the sound of a bullet missing you'.

He looks confused which turns to aggrieved.  He explains that he did what you said.  Precisely. Upon further questioning him, you realize he he somehow heard 'go right' and thought that meant 'go left'.  To your further shock, two other professors agree with him.

"Huh. That is odd... I'm sure I said to do it one way. But you three thought I meant the opposite...Perhaps I was too imprecise with my language Or I was too tired to be teaching.

I am going to go and rest. I had an ordeal even before this. For your homework, I want all of you to think about what I could have said or done differently to clarify how to teach this and get my meaning across.

I am in fact new to teaching, and unfortunately what I am teaching is dangerous like magic. A big enough mess up can result in an explosion like the one that destroyed the Old Tower. Or other stranger mess ups. Such as detaching your mind from your body. Hence why I say we walk with death.

I would also like some advice on teaching in the future."

I will head to my room and sleep. After I sleep until I am not tired and if it is a reasonable hour, I will head back to the professors and hear out their advice.

Re: Magnus and the Mountains

Upon waking, you find that its in part a cultural difference, and your being tired, and students just being dumb.  You  talk with the Dean about it, and he nods.  He tells you a few stories about how students sometimes just get an idea in their heads, and interpret everything around that idea, despite the professor clearly saying otherwise.

He asks you how you explained it, and halfway through stops you.

"You're holding your hand open, pointing at the student.  To us, this is what a person does when they think they have really finished giving you all you need.  Its an open hand with a gift. But you seem to mean something else.  If you were doing this to me, I'd be confused beccause your body language is saying 'I'm done' but your words don't match."

I listen to the Dean explain where I when wrong teaching.

"I see. Looks like I ran into a cultural difference between my home culture and the culture here... I probably should study how to teach so misunderstandings like this don't happen.

I suppose that I should also be more careful in general.

I would like to get the professors here up to where I am with psionics before I start researching psionics on my own. That way we don't lose any knowledge if I accidentally kill myself."

"I agree. Even now, you've changed the world, for the better, I think."

The dean assigns a junior professor to shadow you, and to make sure your message is getting across.  It is a bit annoying as the guy is a bit of a busybody, but on the other hand, he does help you learn more of the local ways.  A month passes, and you've taught many of the professors at the college, and had no incidents as bad as the nearly lethal one.  However, you've had a number of cases of brain burn where men have to take up to a week off and just sleep as they have a massive headache.  One man slammed himself telekinetically into a wall and broke over a dozen bones, but healing brought him back.  And the break room is a zero gravity zone that has yet to dissipate.

Still, things are in the main going well, largely, you think because of your caution.

Then you hear shouts outside of running people.

POP.

One of the professors appears in your room.  He looks panicked. He shouts 'Help!'  Then he dissapears with another POP.

Re: Magnus and the Mountains

Huh. Uncontrolled Teleportation. That is not good. Got to stop him before he teleports somewhere that kills him.

I'll try to follow the teleporting professor on foot. Noting where he appears and attempting to find a pattern that I can use to predict where he is going to appear.
The interval is about 2 or 3 seconds. Since he appeared, Shouted help and then disappeared. Not enough time to physically react by jumping on him. And then there is no telling if the haywire psionics would take me with him.

So my reaction will have to psionic in nature. Psionic grounding will drain power from the haywire Teleportation. But you only get to do it once before you lock yourself out of psionics.

My Teleportation works by taking a bubble of realspace with you as you go into hyperspace. If this Teleport works the same way and that is probable judging by the sound he made coming and leaving with the teleport. Then I should be able to stop it by strengthening the reality around me and preventing the formation of the bubble of realspace.

I'll tell the others to try their psionic grounding when they see the teleporting professor. I will try strengthening reality against Teleportation when I spot him again.

Re: Magnus and the Mountains

You try to figure out a path he is on, and it just seems to be random.  Other professors are tapping themselves out trying to get him, but so far failing.  You're in the kitchen when he appears next to you by chance.  You're startled, but not enough to slow you down as your mind seems to run on two tracks. One is 'oh, wow, this is surprising' and the other is 'strengthen reality'.

A lot of things happen all at once. BOOM. You're instinctively diving to the side for some reason. You feel a push against your mind that shoves past you. He's gone. Teleported. You're laying on your back on the stone floor. You feel pain in your chest and right arm. You see blood spattered on the ceiling and on the table he appeared next to.  Its not a lot of blood, but its still red.

OW. The pain rises as its gets past your shock.

PS: That was a very bad roll for GE (22 of a possible 24) for searching I stretched, and a failure due to his succeeding better in the realspace attempt.

Re: Magnus and the Mountains

Owwww... That is probably my blood.

I'll look at my right arm and chest. Then I'll run a Diagnosis on myself to find out exactly how hurt I am.

Then I will use the info I get from the Diagnosis and heal myself.

How am I feeling after I patch myself up?

Re: Magnus and the Mountains

In reply to Magnus (msg # 515):

Diagnoses reveals you have tiny shards of bone and very hot tiny bits of pot metal as shrapnel in your chest and arm.  Healing is a matter of pushing out the bits of shrapnel, and then stopping the blood flow which goes well, except there is one in your right arm that is spurting visibly now that you get the shirt out of the way.  You try to heal it, and tear it worse so you get the dubious pleasure of seeing your blood arc up into the air, and plunge back to the ground.

Some of the cuts are burns as well, which only get partially healed.  You're able to shake of the impact damage.  You're mostly fine, but your chest still stings except for a large arterial wound in the right arm.

Someone comes in sees the damage and starts to scream and yell and dance about trying to figure out what to do before putting a towel on your arm, and pressing down delicately while wincing and making sounds like htey might  throw up.

OOC: Botch on the arterial heal, and a '2' or very limited success on stopping bloodflow by the kitchen aide.

Re: Magnus and the Mountains

I'll put my hand firmly on the towel  and apply firm pressure to help slow down the blood flowing out.

"I need you to go and find something you can use as rope and a stick to Tourniquet my arm. I can keep pressure on it while I am conscious. Send any professors my way if you see them. Tell them Mage Magnus is critically injured."

I will forcibly cause myself to calm down with psionics and force of will. No need to cause myself to blead out from adrenaline and a racing heart.

There are processes that your body goes through in cold climates that draw your blood into your core so that you can maintain a safe temperature for your vital organs. I will deliberately trigger this with psionics so that I slow the blood comming out my arm.

And then with less blood flow to worry about and a calm mind, I will try to close the large arterial wound in my right arm with psionic healing.

Re: Magnus and the Mountains

OOC: Clever with the cold weather bit. That should get you a boost as its natural.

You feel your skin grow clammy and chill and the blood flow thump under the towel gets weaker and takes a few extra seconds between spurts.

You calm yourself. It does no good to panic. You need a clear head to make good decisions you remind yourself, and bend your mind with your psi. Ice logic replaces emotion. Clearly another mistake. Hmm, however it might be useful.  Would it be useful to drain the life from someone to heal yourself? Possibly, you can begin to see how to do that. However, no one is here now.  Best to work on other methods for now. Besides, your moral structures say that such an idea is bad.  They inform you that you are thinking in a sociopathic manner right now.  It is true without emotions things are clearer, but you can see how its easy to get distracted as well by non essentials when your emotions are turned off.  Without fear to remind you to save your life you might just sit down in the middle of a road to read a book.

The kitchen worker has already gone, running out, and you hear him shrieking a few rooms over. Problem is, he's  too freaked to get out useful information to whoever is talking to him.

With an ice cold mind, a benefit, you begin to do the interesting job of fixing your arm.  It is moved back into place by a mix of accelerating natural healing, and telekinesis.  Fascinating to watch really.

Getting up, you spot a half shredded steel pot on the stove. Some of its metal edges still glow red hot. You could touch it to determine exactly how hot  it is, and then heal yourself later.

OOC: The obvious botch for calming your mind is to go REALLY calm.

Re: Magnus and the Mountains

No need to touch the red hot edge. Since flesh isn't really that sensitive to the fine granulations. Besides if it is glowing red then I know that the temperature is somewhere between 1400 to 1600 degrees fahrenheit.

I am not in immediate danger of dying.
So, Lets focus on more important matters.
The loss of that teleporting professor would be an unacceptable loss of my time and effort teaching him. Not to mention the knowledge that he might hold.

Therefore, the overall goal is to save that professor.  The kitchen aid is now operating on outdated info. So lets stop him before he causes any trouble.

I'll go to the kitchen aid and tell them that I am fine now. I managed to stop the bleeding.

With that taken care of, I consider the seemingly random Teleportation of the professor... need more data to work with.

I head back into the kitchen.  It would be informative to watch how his Teleportation  interacted with my attempt to reinforce reality. Perhaps instead of talking to the stones. I could send my view of psionics and vision into the past to see what happened.

I will sit down and try to send my perception into the past to view what happen when the professor appeared before me. And analyze the event with my view of psionics energies.

Re: Magnus and the Mountains

They kitchen aid finally stops yelling after you tell him twice.  The other two men with him come over to examine you, but you indicate you're fine. They're uncertain, but you show them your arm.  They follow you, and one of them goes and tells the kitchen aide to 'go take a break, pal, you did well.' You think he's lying to get rid of the still excited man.

In the kitchen, you try to throw your mind back in time.  At first it does not work, but after a bit of restructuring the effort, you see things rewind.  First you see yourself walk out, then you see healing your arm, then you see the kitchen aid freaking out and leaving, then you see yourself healing yourself, but failing to get it completely right, and then you see the kitchen aide do his first freak, and then you see yourself flying through the air.

Slowing things down, and flipping them around to be easier to understand....

You're standing in the kitchen. The teleporter appears near you, and his hand is inside the metal pot on the stove.  Something alarms you, and you're diving before you should be able to.  Still, you catch a buckshot blast of hot metal bits and finger bones in the chest...

Rolling back, you try to see the psi energies going on---this is more difficult---you manage.  YOu see yourself manipulating spacetime, but the professor just smashes through your shield--helped by the fact that he was already scared, and went to total panic as his hand exploded.

You realize the professor is in deep trouble. He's missing most o fhis right hand, and will bleed out soon.

Re: Magnus and the Mountains

Oh. That is not good at all.

I will temporarily attach my perception to him in the past and the trace his timeline to the present.  Where I can finally act and start healing him so that he doesn't bleed out.

Once he is no longer in danger of dying from that, I will start analyzing his Teleportation. If it is strong in one way then there must be a way to redirect it's psionic energy. If not, I can just use my psionics to hamper it and force it to expect it's energy resisting my power. Which should cause it to stop sooner.

I am ether going to from a link with the the Teleportation power to ground it out and drain it to nothing.

Or I am going to start reinforcing reality while I follow him with my perception.  Wearing out the power that way.

At first you fail, and the opportunity slips away, but hey,  you're doing time travel, in a way, and so you try again. This time its harder to do, but you succeed.  Now linked to him in the past, you have to follow him up to the present, and you slam face first into a temporal wall that you had previously slid alongside of in safety.

Dropping to your knees, you maintain your consciousness, and your link, but you see large drops of blood dripping from your nose, and your brain feels like its on fire.

With my brain feeling like it is on fire, I don't think I can continue using psionics.

There is two guys with my body in the kitchen. Let's see if I can talk and maintain the connection to the professor.

If the two guys are just normal guys that I haven't taught psionics too. I will tell them to go to the other professors and tell them Mage Magnus needs you to come to him.

If one of them is a professor or a professor comes to me. I will explain.
"The professor that is Teleporting around is bleeding out. I have overused my psionics and my brain feels like it is on fire. But I still have a connection to him.
You can use my connection to go to him clairvoyanly. Heal him to prevent him from dying and then work on stopping the Teleportation."

"All right, Mage Magnus, just relax, sir, you've been through a lot."

You  feel a solid grasp on your mind, and you can feel the professor trying to figure out how to do what you requested. He sees and steadily moves toward his goal. He's a plodder. He checks thrice, and moves sure and straight to his goal.

"Should I try to heal his whole hand, or just stop the blood loss." Agonizingly, yoou can feel him take a whole five seconds to consider that. However, he decides to stop the blood flow, and it works.  The injured professor teleports again, and Prof. Juyten (in your mind) had to relocate the jumping  He fails, and so carefully and slowly tries again.  He almost stops the other prof, but the other man is too strong.

"I'll get him next time," Prof. Juyten grunts, and you can feel the deep, implacable determination in him.

Another professor comes in, and asks you if you need more healing.
