In reply to Oak (msg # 105):

He leaps back, spins about, and draws his cutting blade.  After relaxing a bit, he speaks...

"Um, yeah, feels funny to talk to the air.  My name's Blake.  Um, who or what are you?"

In reply to Oak (msg # 109):

"This is my eighth, if you count Terra.  I was a big game guide.  Then I landed in a place where intelligent velociraptors were invading 10th Century Earth.  After that, there was this vast dessert.  And then I landed on a ship called the Mary Piper, that smuggled emeralds.  I was then summoned by some crazy guy, but he did not like, nor did his pet demon thing like 24 mm du rounds at 3k mps.  The roof fell in on me then. I spent a good five  years then working for this huge furry thing on his raft.  We could not talk but he was a good guy.  I spent some twenty years as a river guide until locals started looking at me strange for not aging.  I tried to fake my death, but botched it, and here I am."

:: Welcome to the neighborhood, such as it is.  This is definitely one of the stranger verses I have encountered. ::

:: Do you have some means of making ammo, or will you run out after too many worms try to eat you?  There are worms on my onion as well, and they can be rather troublesome...::

:: Yes.  I used triangulation with your scriff vector to narrow down the search area, clairvoyance to actually locate you, and telepathy to communicate with you.  There are very few versers here, and I have much to learn about this new place, so I thought it worthwhile to make contact with those I could find. ::

:: Do you have any tips for a newcomer, from what you have learned here thus far? ::

Re: Oak and the Onion

In reply to Oak (msg # 113):

"Okay, that makes sense.  Should be pretty easy.  Hadn't considered that.  Course, you're the first fellow in this thing that I've met.  If you can call telepathy a meeting."  He shakes his head in bewilderment.  He points to the worm he just shot.  Parts of it are disappearing.

"The invisible wasps as I call them.  They quickly jump on any dead flesh.  They called me a child of light, which is strange cuz I'm not religious."

He shows you a towel and coffee cup device he made to squeeze juice from an inner bit of onion skin.

"I keep a fire going at my camp, thirty thousand steps that way.  Worms don't like fire that much.  Much of a worm is nasty, but edible.  But there are bits that are downright tasty if cooked."

:: Ugh.  I have killed a worm from the inside with fire, and it wasn't pleasant.  Still, I shouldn't waste good food.  Which worm parts do you recommend for tastiness? ::

:: Thank you for the tips.  Is there anything that I can do for you?  For example, I could try to teach you a few skills like telepathy or clairvoyance if you wish... ::

===="We didn't really talk.  I tried to get them to leave a worm alone so I could eat it.  I think they said that if I changed things I could eat it too which makes no sense at all.  At that point they called me a 'child of light' in a disdainful manner.  I tried to explain I was an atheist, but I think that just confused them.  Honestly, I don't know what to think about them, and I just try to get my food before they show up, and stay out of their way."

:: Ugh.  I have killed a worm from the inside with fire, and it wasn't pleasant.  Still, I shouldn't waste good food.  Which worm parts do you recommend for tastiness? ::

====He describes a half-dozen small areas, at least small in comparison to the total mass of the worm.  "Its kinda like eating buffalo tongue after shooting a buffalo, and leaving the rest, but they try to eat me, and I need food, so what ya' going to do?"  He shrugs.  Its clear he's not that worried about it.

:: Thank you for the tips.  Is there anything that I can do for you?  For example, I could try to teach you a few skills like telepathy or clairvoyance if you wish... ::

===="Yeah, that would be awesome.  I...I'd owe you a favor."

Re: Oak and the Onion

:: It would be my pleasure. ::

:: By the way, how are you doing for food?  An ancient verser called The Gardener shared some seeds with me, and I have started a garden of my own.  I don't know how much extra he might have that he would be willing to share, but it probably couldn't hurt to ask. ::

:: As far as I can tell, you are the only verser on your onion, while there are three of us on my onion.  If there was a way for me to get you over here, would you prefer to come over, or to stay where you are? ::

"Let me see what can be done here.  Stand by..."

I pray silently, and focus, and stretch forth my senses to teleport myself to him...

IF I am successful... I give a friendly nod.

"I am Oak.  Well met, Blake, and a pleasure to do so face to face. "

"Are there things you need to gather from here before we attempt the trip back?"

You gather your focus, strain, and BAMF, you're ten feet above the other onion.  Splat. Now you're on the Onion.  Blake helps you to your feet.

Gravity feels slightly different.

In reply to Oak (msg # 121):

He shakes your hand briskly.

"Give me five." He says, and starts to head toward his camp at a quick jog.  A little bit later, and he's packing up stuff.  You arrive as he puts in some sort of drill-like tabletop sized tool into a suitcase with zippers all over it.

He has one suitcase, one duffel bag, a red metal long rifle slung on his back, and a fisherman's vest with jeans, boots, and long-sleeve pull over he's wearing now.  He double-checks his items.  Then he kicks out the fire very thoroughly.

He looks about one last time to the horizons, and then nods at you.

"I'm ready, Oak.  What do I need to do?"

"Just stick with me, and I'll do the work... and, Lord willing, we will make the journey successfully."

"I give you fair warning, though...  My journey to you was a longer teleport than I had ever attempted before.  It was successful, but it is always difficult to know just how reliable such attempts will be, particularly in an unfamiliar universe.  Do you still want me to make the attempt?"

IF he says yet, THEN I put my hand upon his shoulder, and pray, and focus, and stretch forth my senses back to where I just came from, and make the attempt...

"I'll rely on you." He says.
You build an image of your destination, gather the lines of something stretched between Here and There, globe the both of you in a protective bubble, and kick yourself loose from Here, hoping the rails take you smoothly.

And  you and Blake are on your onion.  He laughs in sudden hiccups that sound incongruous coming from such a large man.

:: Thank you, Dearest Lord... ::

I smile at our safe arrival, and at his hiccups.

"Try pressing your temples.  I've tried many cures for hiccups, and that one works best..."

I demo with my own fingers on my own temples for a moment, then gesture to my garden.

"Welcome to my humble onion... though we do share it with two other versers, and a number of other critters..."

OOC: BTW, we kind of blooped over where exactly I set up my garden.  What have I seen for worthy choices?  What recommendations did Gardener have?  Would the surface be best, or back by the Reptilian's Lake, or somewhere else?

In reply to Oak (msg # 125):

He nods, and tries it.  After a minute, he's fine.

Its near the exit tunnel that leads down to Reptilan's lake.

Its growing with inch high plants that spread out, but are still thin.  Other bits have poked up out of the onion.  Still, in a world of white, even a small rectangle of green is a delight to the eyes.

He asks you about it, getting details, and says that once he gets set up, he'd like to go visit the Gardener as well.

"He is somewhat reclusive, but friendly.  When you are ready, I will contact him, and see if he will meet us."

"You are welcome to set up here, or wherever else you wish.  This tunnel leads to a lake where the other verser lives, the Reptilan.  The Gardner lives up on the surface.  Do you want to explore for a bit, and start getting to know your new onion?"

He looks about a bit, and then turns to you.

"I think I need to talk to this Gardener fellow to see where I can make my base.  Y'know, for the garden.  Once I know the possibilities, then I can explore, and choose which one I like the best."

He grins.

"I'm usually pretty content myself off in the wilds, but after nearly a month without another human face, it's good to see you Oak."

"It is good to see you, Blake."

I return the grin with a friendly nod.

"Let me contact Gardener, and see if he will meet us.  He tends to spend most of his time alone, and told me 'if you want to visit once a month or so, you could'... and I actually met him for the first time earlier today.  So he may not be keen for another visit so soon.  I'll see if the prospect of a new face would be welcome."

I reach out with my telepathic senses.

:: Friend Gardener?  This is Oak.  I have found the fourth and last verser in this universe, as far as I am aware.  His name is Blake, and he would like to meet you.  Would we disturb you if we came over, or would another time be better?  You were kind to spend time with me earlier today, so I do not want to weary you... ::
