In reply to Tadeusz (msg # 1):

You wake from dreams of lightning disputing a speed ticket with a judge.  "But, sir, ahem, your honor, I can't go less than 186,000 miles per second."

And you wake to the smell of gasoline burned, and the cry of seagulls, and a roughedged Southern man speaking.

"Ya'll git ready."

A musical voiced Spanish inflected young man replies with a cocksure swagger.

"I was born ready."

A nervous young girl speaks.  "Sam, up this high, I can't use my powers."

Beneath you is a thin carpet, and a hard floor that trembles a bit.

I stand up and approach the nearest sounding voice. I've got my hand ready to draw my revolver from my belt if things should go south suddenly.

Okay, Magehammer is in jeans and a tee shirt, black combat boots, his black, bulletproof trenchcoat and a huge backpack that has (Anything I can think of????) in it? Or do you actually want me to list off the contents of the backpack?

He's carrying a 50 caliber, six shot revolver on a toolbelt. And of course his magical blacksmithing hammer. The toolbelt has (Anything I can think of in it?) Or do you actually want me to list off its contents?

He's got a laser pistol in a shoulder holster, and a sawed off on both ends double barrel 12 gauge shotgun loaded with one flare and one explosive. He's got extra shells that can do a lot of other things. Everything from tear gas to armor piercing slugs. (If the ref will allow, that is)

He was combining Order and Chaos magic. Teleported once. Lights himself on fire. Order protecting him, Chaos burning around him.

Sound good to you ref?

OOC) My favorite plot device is a large container of unknown contents. The Magehammer that I run as referee, his backpack and toolbelt are four dimensional, infinite storage hypercubes. They were built by Jimmy Neutron. Magehammer literally has armored cars and tanks and jeeps and rigs of every size that he can pull out of his toolbelt. And the best part is, the hypercubes work in +15 or -15 tech bias. (MJ did say "Anything was possible" in this game.)

A rawboned blonde young man turns to you, and then so does a black-haired girl with short curls.  She's got almost an Italian look, but she's pale.  There is another shorter man, but he's solid black, like he's absorbing light.

You're in a large, carpeted room with windows on all sides, and an elevator door near where you woke.

And then a metallic purple hand, the fingers of which are four feet thick and fifteen feet long, reaches up, and punches through the window.

"What da heck is that?" I ask anyone who will answer.

Then I pull my hammer and try to freeze the robot hand. Freeze it to the point that it will shatter from the impact of being pulled back out.

Be prepared to Flame On at a moment's notice. I figure whenever possible, try to alternate between Order and Chaos magic. Couldn't hurt.

OOC: Thanks.

You draw in Order, and flush it through the hand, driving out the Chaos of heat.  Ice covers the arm, and the solid black man runs forward, grabs the hand and yanks it off, tossing it behind him.  The ten ton hand half punches a hole in the floor.  You feel as if you want to throw up.

The blond man nods, and grabs the girl by the hand, and then grabs your hand as well, unless you resist.  Then you and the other two are suddenly blasted through the roof.  For a second, you think and explosion too you, but you're not harmed.  An energy field surrounds you, emanating from the blond man, and trailing behind.

"I'm Cannonball." He shouts.  Its very loud inside the field.  You've shot several hundred feet above a skyscraper, and below you is a large metropolis.

"Don't worry...we'll git I'm..."

And suddenly you're tilting over ninety degrees, and a few seconds later, ninety more degrees, and you're heading back down.  You see a hundred story skyscraper below you in the midst of a giant metropolis.

And on the side of the skyscraper is a five story tall purple and gray robot that is absorbing metal from the scraper to rebuild its hand.  And then the black spot leaps from the building about seventy feet and plummets straight down.

Another ninety degree turn, and ...you're heading straight down.

"Hang on. This is going to be close."  And suddenly you're going twice as fast with your stomach left behind as you roar straight down toward the road below.

Channel my sickness Chaos into a lightning bolt or a fireball or heck, a baby nuke and throw it at the sentinel. Magehammer has seen these before, he knows what they're called.

OOC) I was trying to figure out how to do that without risking disrupting the Chaotic flight pattern. Then I reread the post. Sickness Chaos; turned into a weapon.

You channel the minor amount of sickness chaos into a small lightning bolt that hits the Sentinel.  It pauses for a second, and then even as its hand continues to repair, it turns its head with the glowing red eyes that a three feet across towards you.  This does also make your stomach feel fine.

Also, when I get a chance, ask my hosts which they think would be more effective. Order or Chaos. I'm going underground this time. I'm going to try to supply magical weapons to these guys.

And then the blond guy pulls a 45 degree angle away from the ground, and tries screaming to pull another one.  The ground gets close, and you're sure you're about to die.

You hit, but with all of you inside the rocket field, you bounce, and bounce again, tearing fifty foot long tears in the street between honking cars and taxis.  And then you're soaring into the sky again.

Sunspot pulls himself up your grabber, easily, and grabs your shoulder.  He's clearly being gentle, but its like a steel vise locked on to your shoulder.

The blonde girl yells...."Sam, Sentinel is following!!"

You're around the fortieth floor right now...and a Sentinel is tearing off toward you, boot jets flaming, about four hundred yards behind.

Just to clarify here. I want to transfer the Chaos energy from the Sentinel boot rockets to our forward momentum. The Sentinel's rockets should shut down sending him crashing into the ground. And we will suddenly accelerate to the speed of sound. I just hope whichever of them is doing this can hold it.

"Do it." Sam orders.

And you reach out, channeling the Chaos, and...

WHOOMPH.

You're blind, and falling, and your sense of Order and Chaos is gone.  Then you hear that familiar roar, and a very strong hand grabs you.

"Hang on, this is going to be rough..." A melodious male voice says, Sunspot it is.

And you and the others crash into dirt sending it flying.  You're laying on your back, gasping for breath, blind....nothing seems broken.

"We are in New Jersey, I think." The girl says.
"Yeah, I think so, Amara. What did that guy do?  I've never broken the sonic barrier before."

So I'm blind and powerless for the next 10 minutes? Magehammer has had this happen before so he's not going to be too panicked about it. At least once everything is back. He just hopes nothing happens in the next 10 minutes.

quote:
"We are in New Jersey, I think." The girl says.

I face their general direction. They should be able to tell I'm blind.

"That, my friends, was a Chaos power transfer. I transferred the Sentinel's rocket power to us. Did anybody see what happened to the Sentinel? It shoulda crashed."

But once my sight and powers come back, find a piece of random iron somewhere and beat on it until I determine if I can make black iron in this world.

Assuming that works (15@10 Magic, right ref?) I'm going to pull out my own hammer and create an ice cube out of thin air with it. Then I'm going to toss a small fireball at something harmless.

"I can make weapons that will let anyone do that. And more."

The thing I really want to try to make is a Chaos bow. It's something I came up with in the game I was running. It's a bow made from Chaos wood that fires a bolt of pure Chaos energy compressed into a projectile that hits with the force of a 12 gauge slug. The Chaos energy builds up in the space between the bow and the string. No arrows. Once you release the string, the Chaos energy folds down into an explosive bolt projectile. I bet somebody here would find that interesting.

OOC) I'm just going to have to remember that this is not the game I'm running and my ideas might not mesh with the referee here. But I hope they will.

OOC) This is more so I don't forget. Something for you to put on the back burner for a while. Not doing it just yet. Just don't want to forget it.

Referee, you may recall from Verser World that Magehammer was selling black iron kettles that could make soup out of thin air. That's Magehammer about five thousand worlds from now. Since I am much younger Magehammer, I'm going to examine the Order/Chaos patterns on something simple. A potato comes to mind. Try to make a black iron kettle that will make potatoes. I'm thinking one potato at a time to start with. Eventually work my way up to making a soup kettle. But one potato at a time and a kettle to cook them in could make all the difference in the world to a starving community.

Referee, just put that on the back burner for now.

The person using the kettle would need to fill it with water and put it on a fire. After a time, there will be a boiled potato in the kettle. The time frame is how long does it take to boil a potato? Yeah, adding water Order and fire Chaos to the magic could only help.

So, eventually, I want to examine the Order/Chaos patterns of water and potatoes. And eventually build a kettle that if filled with water and put on a fire will create boiled potatoes. In the time it would take to boil a potato. That could make enough food for a small family, anyway.

I'm thinking one quart kettle. Maybe 2 quart after I get some experience.

What do you think of that Ref? Is that something I could do?

Via Order/Chaos magic that would be insanely hard to do.  You're really goingn to want to look at other magic systems.

He hops back.  "That stung."  You can see the bonds.  His skin creates a rocket fuel, which requires Chaos to be bound into Order.  Pure Chaos won't do the job no more than shooting a flamethrower at a car with no gas will get it moving.

It looks normal.

Its going to require more work for black iron, but you're in theprocess.  Looking at wood you can see how to strengthen it, but none of the local woods look worthy of the effort.  There is Maple and a few Pines and a single diseased Hickory nearby.  You can easily see the disease Chaos inside it.

You get in the back of the Jeep, and the driver introduces herself as Danielle Moonstar.  She's Arapahoe.

You and the others speed on your way.  About ten miles down the road, you have to detour around a hundred acre lake in the middle of what used to be the freeway.  After that, they arrive in two more hours in North Baltimore.

Actually Chaos is kind of what I want. Cut a branch from the diseased Hickory. I'm going to try to manipulate the Chaos of it into strength and flexibility. Remove this Chaos to make it strong, change this Chaos into flexibility. That's a perfect candidate to try to make that Chaos bow I was talking about.

He grimaces and agrees to let you try again.  You gather Chaos energy, and start hooking it to the Order points in his skin, and there are many,  many of them.  Its time consuming work, rather like crocheting with your mind.

1@1 Create Rocket Fuel, ten minutes for minor bit, requires complete concentration, stamina check.

You pick up the Hickory limb.  You could add enough Order to drive out the Chaos, but that would also stiffen it.  It might be possible to layer chaos and order like fillo dough for strength and flex.

So if I can make rocket fuel, I can make anything. So when I get a chance, examine the Order/Chaos patterns in a potato, and try to imprint those exact patterns to a black iron kettle. Add Order water and Chaos heat and you've got a boiled potato. When I get a chance. That's still in the back of referee's head.

quote:

The reason I picked a diseased branch is that it's chock full of chaos. I don't necessarily want to remove or cover up the Chaos. I want to change it into a different form. Change it into flexibility and speed. Change it into raw Chaos energy. Manipulate what's left of the Order in the wood into strength. Try not to add any if possible. Remember I want a bow that fires Chaos energy. Like the Ranger's bow in this clip.

Remember that show? Looks like episodes of it are on YouTube.

OOC) If you are absolutely dead-set that I'm trying something which is impossible with this magic, don't hesitate to rule against it. I mean, that is your job. All I'm saying though is so far, all you've said is that it would be difficult. Well, difficult is a looooong way from impossible.

Frankly, I don't think you're going to rule very much if anything impossible. I think you're curious to see what I can come up with.

When we're driving by, try to look at the lake with Order sight. See if I can see anything. I'm looking for obviously man made. Norm bases. Anything military.

Something I always thought was really cool is water. H2O. Two parts hydrogen, one part oxygen. In the gaseous state, this would probably be close to the optimal explosive mixture. But it puts fires out. And people say there is no God. Break down the Order holding the molecular bonds together, add a bit of Chaos, and that lake just became a huge hydrogen explosion. Three Posts (Sorry Ref!!!)

Something I want to make clear to them quickly is that I'm going to need to move around a lot. I can help take out these Sentinels, but I'm going to draw their attention wherever I go.

I'm going to need regular access to blacksmithing, wood and iron. But I can help stop these Sentinels.

Ask if anyone has ever heard of Magehammer. I made magical black iron tools and weapons last time I was here. Do any of these still exist? I think they would only be Order. He was just beginning as an Order mage last time.

I want to find out if this is the same world I was in before.

(Please Mister Referee Man!!!!!!)

Its Sunspot aka Bobby aka Roberto Da Acosta.

You don't see anything from the water, and then you remember that water is such a mix of Chaos and Order that its hard to do magic over it.  Water, for an Order or Chaos Mage is a null spot.

You see a strange glass window through which you can see many tools for a super-advanced forge.  The door is locked by an electronic lock.  Its empty and not in use as the owner, Forge, has not visited in the last few months.

The potato overall is gaining Chaos as it decays.  But diving deeper, and you run into massive complexity.  Again, easier to make a nuke than a potato.

You're able to turn the branch into a very strong, and flexible short whip.

A woman stands in front of you, in silver armor, with a sword across her back.  You look up, and her hair is white, her eyes are red, and her head has long curving horns extending from it.

Is it a null spot or is it a perfect material from which to cause creation? If it's a perfect mix of Order and Chaos, then theoretically, water could be an Order/Chaos mage's best friend. It just needs to be Ordered and Chaosed in the right way. That's what I'm hoping for anyway.

Ask somebody "That's what I need. How do we get in there?"

But not impossible to make a potato. That's all I need. When I get the chance try to imprint this exact pattern of Order and Chaos onto a black iron kettle. Once filled with water, it should transmute the water into a potato. If water is a perfect mix of Order and Chaos then anything could be made from it with this magic. I mean, at least that makes sense to me. That's what I want anyway.

quote:

Yeah, but can I channel Chaos through it? Or more appropriately can someone else channel Chaos through it? I wanted to end up with a Chaos weapon. Something like the Ferengi phaser whips. Something that would throw a Chaos bolt. I want to make magic weapons for these people.

Listening to her voice is like having someone scrape fingernails on a chalkboard while listening to someone scream in agony.

As to water, you don't know.  Not remotely powerful enough yet, or skilled enough yet, like with a potato.

Cannonball says if you can get in without getting killed, then (laugh) good on you.

You have been able to pulse Chaos fire down the whip, but not fire it.  Nor does it work for others.

Magik shakes her head.  "The DarkRealms taints all it touches.  Don't give it to me."  She holds up your dagger, and you see its strange and twisted now with the magic swirled to match the horned skull on its pommel.

Magik nods in agreement as if that's perfectly reasonable while Sam glares at you.  He then transfers that glare to Bobby who hurries back to his watching post.  Magik puts the knife on a new belt she wears.

Edit.  Mirage could use the Order staff to fight very well defensively.  And the Chaos dagger to make her pschyic arrow attack much stronger.

Bobby could use the Order staff to draw in more sunlight, to repower himself.  The Chaos dagger burned his skin when he was powered up, but otherwise did not bother him.

Magik claims that the corrupt Chaos dagger can slice darkling skin quite readily.  She cannot even bear to pick up the Order staff.  She also points out that your hammer resisted her Soulblade attack, and thats unusual because one of the Soulblade's key properties is to break enchantments.

Its got flight, light armor, shield mode, significant repair capacity, some ability to modify itself to deal with an attack, significant strength, excellent medium range scanning gear, and good antivirus defenses.  It can be armed with a variety of weapons, primarily ranged energy weapons.  Sometimes electrified cables are used as well.

Sometimes it works alone or in a trio.

Alpha Sentinels are significantly smarter, stronger, more defended.  They can also, given time create Basic Sentinels.

He's seen Orbit Sentinels, and Tracker Sentinels.  Both are primarily noncombatant in their roles although they do have weapons.  There are rumors of other sentinels as well, special mods like a Swamp Sentinel and so forth.

I am thinking about making magical weapons for these people to use to fight back in their war. That's my objective. I can make them from iron and from wood. Dunno what else I could make them from. But no time like the present to find out.

But continuing idly with the guy. "Yeah, up until about the 500 or 600 series, SkyNet was trying to out breed the humans. Creating lots and lots of weak units that could be destroyed with your average 12 gauge shotgun. SkyNet had to balance resources, time, all kinds of factors. But despite the fact that it would take the human offspring six to eight years to have any kind of combat efficiency, the humans were still reproducing far faster than SkyNet had anticipated. I guess it didn't consider how quickly and how often humans engage in the act of reproduction when they are scared out of their minds. So SkyNet finally decided instead of making 100 units with a 5 to 1 kill ratio, it focused on making 5 units with a 200 to 1 kill ratio. Thus, the T-800 was born."

Just something for the referee. I think versers would start to lose their minds after a while. Everything would become a blur. Magehammer was born as John Connor and he did have a T-800 chasing him. The rest of that about the Terminators is from a cannon fan site, comics, novels, etc. Would Magehammer realize that he didn't actually live through the SkyNet War? That's something I wonder about.

So yeah, as far as he's concerned, he's telling that guy the truth.

Find a tree from which to cut the Order staff. Gonna have to find a forge to make the knife. Or I could just Chaos up some heat to do it. Don't really need a forge.

Thinking to Rachel "When I was here before, the Sentinel called me 'Magehammer, Alpha class extra-dimensional magician.' I liked that."

When I make weapons, I'm making a few. Not just one Order staff and one Chaos knife. I'm making as many as I can with the time and resources allotted me. I just hope they work to turn the tide of this war.

Scott Summers is my father. Jean Grey is my mother.

Powered individuals are usually measured by Gamma-latents, Delta-very minor powered, Beta-strong, Alpha-capable of taking on an Alpha Sentinel or otherwise of great power, and Omega--highest class.

Rachel disappears, and you walk with Forge to a warehouse in the commercial district.

You make a half-dozen staffs, and four knives in a smaller roboforge while Forge retunes their weapons.  Most of these mutants don't have direct attack powers so they carry Forge made laser blasters.  Your weapons are a welcome addition.

Rachel returns after a few days, and takes up the offered weapons of yours both at once.  Then her eyes flame with firebirds, and the fire surrounds her, and the knife melts and the staff burns to ash.

I just wonder if these things can track scriff.......

quote:
You make a half-dozen staffs, and four knives in a smaller roboforge while Forge retunes their weapons.  Most of these mutants don't have direct attack powers so they carry Forge made laser blasters.  Your weapons are a welcome addition.

But can everyone use them? Have I heard any reports of people using an Order staff to take down a sentinel?

quote:
Rachel returns after a few days, and takes up the offered weapons of yours both at once.  Then her eyes flame with firebirds, and the fire surrounds her, and the knife melts and the staff burns to ash.

But is Rachel okay, or did I just watch the Challenger explode? (OOC) Today, Jan 28 is the 31 year anniversary of that.) When it's done burning, look through the ashes and see if there's anything left of her.

"Jean Gray was Omega class.  I don't think you are.  I can sense your power field."

Multiple people can use them, and you've heard of one used in a fight with a Sentinel.

She looks totally unscathed.

Then her face turns to slash marks tattooed across it, and a firebird fills most of the room.  A talon of flame reaches out and touches you.

"Now and forever, I am the Phoenix!"

And its a sensation of being shook by a power that could maybe crack the planet.  The living avatar of Destruction and Creation.  The Phoenix, a cosmic entity, bonded to a human mutant.

And then the talon goes away, and the bird of flame dissapears, and the sensation of overwhelming power fades leaving the room almost empty by comparison with just you and Rachel Summers there.

"Can you make something to deal with that flow of power?"

"Precision. Focus. Order."

And the wheels in my brain turn. I set to the forge and I attempt to make her a pair of black iron Order bracelets. What I want to make are the equivalent of magical lenses through which for her to focus her power. Like Wonder Woman's bracelets. But instead of blocking bullets, these will serve as a focal point, so she can focus her power through her hands.

How does that go?

At any rate, I'm sure Magehammer would like to take Phoenix out for a date. So I'll ask her at some point:

"What do the mutant kids do for fun around here? Would you like to do anything with me?"

Probably not many guys willing to date her.

The black iron bracelets seem like a promising idea.

At first, Rachel stares at you perplexed.  She has no idea of what you are asking. You see a glimpse of a young woman with no social life, even if she is pretty.  Then she blushed red, and nods shyly.

Have I finished making the bracelets yet?

I put my arm around her to comfort her and project into her mind an image of a lonely 16 year old boy who likewise has no social life. He's putting his arm around the young woman from her vision. Then the world opens before them into a magical, fairy tale land where they can be carefree and happy.

Then I ask her "What do you think of that?"

What the hey? We're probably two of the most powerful creatures in the world. If we can't get a date, then something's wrong.

She laughs bitterly, and projects into your mind a vision of dozens of Sentinels, of death camps, and of brainwashed Hounds like her tasked to hunt down mutants amidst a warscape of skeletons and shattered buildings and torn land and a sky filled with black smoke.  Its 2051, and the Sentinels rule the Earth.

The X-Men, the New Mutants, the Hellfire Club, the Brotherhood of Mutants, Magneto, the Morlocks, and all the other groups of mutants are mostly dead and buried.  Then a crazed girl throws herself into a time vortex....

"Still want to, what is the term, 'date' me?"

==================

You're able to make a pair of bracelets which enhances your blacksmithing skill.  It helps Rachel, but its still not enough.  Still she can use them, and not at full power, a few times before they melt.

OOC) Listen to the lyrics to this if you can make them out. This kind of sends the message I want to give her here.

IC) And now that I know what's in her head, and I have a better idea of what this world is like:

I send her an image of Magehammer and The Dark Phoenix, side by side, leading an army of mutants and Order/Chaos weapon users. Smashing those metal mothers into junk. Liberating death camps. Turning this war around.

"I'd call that a satisfactory first date. Don't you agree Rachel?"

quote:

So she needs something with a higher melting point....... Higher than Black Iron?????? Uh, yeah, higher than Black Iron.

Ask around for crystal. Even salt. Salt crystals. Containers of salt. Crystals would be Orderly. I could magically transmute those into Order bracelets with an insanely high melting point. Salt has one of the highest melting points known to man. They store radioactive waste in salt mines. It's resistant to radiation, high melting point, incredibly strong. Salt Order bracelets. Heck, you could almost make those at home right now. But yeah, look around for salt.

If I can get a handle on The Dark Phoenix that would turn things around.

Now that opens up a whole cacophony of problems. Is that a future where Magehammer interfered? Or did the gods of Order and Chaos send him here to prevent that future?

Is that my fault, or am I their savoir?

But if she still runs off, I won't chase after her. I'll wait for her to calm down. It was supposed to be inspiring. Like the song said:

I imagine that kind of sums up how Rachel feels about it.

"For this."

Arrange some salt in a circle. Then, take the Chaos knife in my left hand and the Order hammer in my right hand. I want to remove Chaos and add Order to it. I want to transmute the salt into solid, crystalline tubes that Rachel can wear to focus her power through.

Your comfort eases her some, but you can tell she has mental scars.

Forge watches what you do with curiousity, being careful to stay out of the way.  You start knitting the salt together, hook by hook, forming the crystals, and as the process goes on, each step becomes twice as hard as the step before.

The Chaos is surrounding you with white flame, and you can feel it heating your blood.  There is a nearby source of Chaos which you could dump your chaos energy into, and you feel the Order beneath the ground, ancient granites making up the bedrock.

This spell is going to require more power than you have in your body you think.

The power flows out of you, the Chaos dumping into the microfusion reactor that Forge has here, and the power flows into you, the Order of the ancient bedrock below you.  As it does, the crystals snap together, and the power builds.

Forge shouts at you, but you can see his reactor can take more, so you do more.  And he flees the room because you're surrounded by white flame that is hot enough to start his hair smoking from ten feet away.

And the last step seems impossible, so heavy, but you push on.  The world turns all white. Then all black. Then white again. Black again.  White of Pure Chaos. Black of Pure Order. White. Black. White Black...

You're screaming, and only your being used to pain makes this bearable.

And then you blackout as the final link is made.

You wake, some time later, and here Forge's voice.
"He's stable. I thought we were going to lose him.  At the top edge, Rachel, he was channeling a 100 megawatts of power..."
"He's awake." Rachel says. Your eyes flip open. You're blind.  You feel as if you had a visit with a thirty mile per hour semi truck.

Hearing the voice in the darkness, I "look" in his general direction and say weakly "I bet it was closer to 1.21 gigawatts of power, and you just maxed out your meters. It's kinda like Chernobyl. Their radiation meters were reading a safe 3 rads. Then someone realized that was as high as the meters could register and it was actually closer to 300 rads."

Then a pause and I say "Ever heal a blind man?"

What I would want to build, as far as a pot that makes food, is something like this. Put water into it, put it on a fire. The water will transmute into food. Ideally, if you kept adding water, you would keep getting more food.

Is water the best choice for that? Fire is Chaos. Is water Orderly? I would think water would be a mix of both. Should I try using a more Orderly material instead of water? I mean, ya know, cuz I got pure Chaos underneath. Ideally water, but if sand or dirt is more Orderly and thus works better, so be it. As long as the result looks, smells, tastes and is as nutritious as oatmeal.

Or maybe forego putting it on the fire? Cold oatmeal is better than nothing.

The thing is see, fire, pure Chaos underneath. Would a container filled with Orderly material balance out that Chaos? Or do you want a material that is both Order and Chaos because it could transmute better? It's original Order/Chaos pattern is closer to oatmeal than something more Orderly would be. Do you get what I'm saying?

Which would work better?

Three Posts

What do I want to put into the pot? I would like to have fire and water, as those seem pretty universal in the Multiverse. But would dirt and solar heating work better? Do I need/want to heat it at all? Do I want to fill it with something Orderly to balance out the fire Chaos? Or, would water being closer to oatmeal than dirt is, would it transmute easier? I would imagine clay would be pretty Orderly. Maybe bake a block of clay and it turns into a cake? Clay is a little harder to come by. I'd prefer packed mud or something.

How would this work? Referee, put it on the back burner of that brain of yours, as I don't imagine anything like this was in the books.

BTW, you said it would be "Difficult". That's a looooong way from "Impossible".

Rachel is rueful but pleased at your imagery of her as beloved by all.

Her psi image cannot have Order/Chaos as she does not perceive Order or Chaos.

At first your sparring goes to her, as she reads your mind.  But as you both speed up, you both are reacting faster than thought can form.  And then something kicks in, and you're drifting into an Orderly form of defensive stick fighting.  And suddenly, she can't even get close to you.

What I mean by that is be far enough away that, from my point of view, the hammerhead would look like it's covering the entire thing. Then smash it with Order. Like how you can hold the sun in your hand? Be in a position so that the factory looks to me like it's underneath my hammerhead and smash it with Order. Would that work?

OOC) In the games I run, Order teleportation can only take you as far as your eye can see. Chaos teleportation can take you anywhere. However, Chaos teleport runs the risk of being caught inside a solid object. Order teleport just risks slamming into solid objects that you could see.

Try to do that on a small scale. Try to crush an empty soda can or something with that. Hold the hammer so that I can see the can underneath it, but it's not really underneath it. Then smash.

I think you said that mud and sunlight would work the best? Any reason for that, or are you just pulling it out of your hat? Anyway, that's got me thinking. Not a kettle, a baking pan. Fill it with mud, leave it in the sun, and in so many hours you've got cake or bread or something. Maybe oat bread since I was studying oatmeal so intensively. I want to build a magical whatchamacallit that will make food out of something inedible. I could imagine these people could really use something like that.

Solar is probably more Orderly than fire, and water is hard for you to use, plus you are not just making the molecules of the food out of nothing, you need the elements in the food to be present in order for them to be manipulated ...which probably does mean you need some water as much of food is high in water.

Blink nods, and blinks out.

The granite underneath the ground, about fifty feet down calls to you, and you sink your mind into it, drawing up Order.  As you do, you focus it into links in the air.  And more power, and more power you draw.  Rachel touches your shoulder, and you feel her lend you mental focus with her telepathy.

You sense a flare of Chaos from the building, and warn Rachel enough that she can throw up a shield.  Still she staggers under the attack of a pop up disruption turret cannon on the roof of the building.

And then Rachel sends a horrified image into your brain.  Blink got everyone out, but went back one more time to doublecheck.  A Hispanic looking man stepped out from where he had been hiding, and transformed into an eight foot tall metal bot.  Blink teleports wildly, out of control away, escaping.

OOC) I was kind of thinking that water is everything. Everything can be broken down into water at some level. What does that mean "Need the elements in the food to be present"? What? It's got to have so many carbon atoms and so many hydrogen atoms? Or it's got to have an Order/Chaos pattern to it?

Not My Problem.

At the cannon shot, I lose focus momentarily. But I get it back with a little help from Rachel. I try to turn her so I am between her and the cannon, if I can do that without losing sight of the building. Maybe my trenchcoat could take one blast? Who is to say? Let's not find out though, shall we?

So we just discovered that they can become people. Terminators. Good to know.

Once Blink is out, I yell "HULK SMASH!!!!" and begin smashing the building with my hammer. Smash it flat. Kinda like what Hulk does to Loki. Try to remember to hit it an Orderly number of times. Even. Odd is Chaotic and (At least in my games) Primes are super Chaotic. I could see an argument made for them being Orderly, but it's my system.

There's nothing I can do about those half-dozen sentinels that Rachel can't do to them. So I'm going to keep smashing the building. If those six are the only survivors, I can deal with that. I regularly make brownies (hehehe!!!) There's only about a quarter cup of water used for an entire pan of brownies. It gets the rest of the moisture from oil and eggs. My point though is that what I would want to make is an eight inch by eight inch baking pan. Eight seems like an Orderly number. Fill it with dirt and a quarter cup of water, leave it in the sun and you've got brownies. Or cake or bread or something. I would think mud would have a consistency closer to brownies than bread, but as long as it's edible.

Your next strike caves in the roof on the center left, but leaves the walls standing.  Your next strike takes care of that.  But you are breathing hard, and your legs tremble.  Off to your left and above you can see flashes of light in the sky as Rachel battles the Sentinels.  They keep trying to swing around to come down on you, and she uses that as an opportunity to take them out.  So far one Sentinel has mud-dived a hundred yards in front of you, and one fifty yards behind you.  Both are smoking and burning.

Another strike at the building does little, and with your Order Sense you can see another half dozen Sentinels inside, all helping to hold up the roof.  A disruption cannon fires at you, but its shot is weak as its power supply is interrupted.  Your coat turns the attack, but the grass around you smoulders.  You launch another attack, and you can feel the land under you getting softer, and subsiding a bit.

Magehammer mumbles to himself "This is a lot harder than I thought it would be."

That section inside where I can feel sentinels holding up the roof, yeah, I'm gonna smash that next.

But seeing the Chaos around me, I'm going to try drawing on that. Draw the Chaos from the two burning sentinels, draw it from their buddies that Rachel is fighting, draw it from the building itself. It's gotta be pretty much in Chaos by now.

Draw in all of that Chaos and drop a little 1 ton nuclear bomb on the factory.

You draw in the Chaos, and are surrounded by a blazing white ball of energy.  And then you start to disconnect bits and pieces of the matter inside the factory, but not the molecules, but a step below, neutrons fly free....and concrete, which ordinarily could not be a nuclear bomb....flares into self-sustaining fission until it blows all about it.

A devouring fireball at the heat of a million degrees devours the inside of the factory.  First to go is the floor and walls so that you can see a brilliant light.  And then the Sentinels are torn to small pieces.  And after that the five hundred ton metal forming presses for the Sentinel breast plates are mangled and melted and tossed hundreds of yards.

Radiation and light flash out.  You don't feel heat, but cool. Strange. And then the hurricane force winds arrive and pick you up and throw you high and far.  Just as the winds die, you feel a firm grip catch you.

"Hang on, Magehammer. I've got you."

And then the hurrican force winds come slamming back into the empty space they had been driven from.  You are a quarter-mile high in the air, held by Phoenix's TK grip.  Below and away from you,  you can see a roiling mushroom cloud rising rapidly.

I've got my right hand on the double barrel shotgun strapped to my right leg. It's loaded with one explosive shell and one flare.

My weapon load with the backpack on is one rifle or shotgun, one pistol, one laser pistol, and the double barrel shotgun. Although I have different ammo for it, the default is an explosive and a flare. So a grenade launcher and a flamethrower.

The power bolts from his hands flash out, turning ice into billowing clouds of steam.  You launch your attack, but the system you're attacking is a bit different due to being robotic.  Nimrod fires again, just missing you, and you're bathed in hot fog.  But you can still see him, and you yank on the cords of power.  He resists to some degree, but then he drops to one knee.

What I want to do here is add Order to him so he cannot move, and remove Chaos from him so his batteries will die. I'll end up with an eight foot tall paperweight.

Chaos up the equivalent of a lightning rod. I want to channel his plasma bolt back at him as whatever. I'm not picky about what I channel it back as, so long as it is something hazardous to him and preferably not to me. Maybe as an EMP. But I'm not really picky about it. Let the gods of Order and Chaos decide. But yeah, use his own weapon against him. I would think that should tax my magic less than actively creating something like a force smasher.

My knowledge of the Nimrod sentinel is that it was the adaptive Sentinel from Days of Future Past. Let's show him he's not the only adaptive creature here.

So yeah, Chaos his plasma bolts back at him. Hopefully with a bit more accuracy.

Or do I want to Order them back? I keep thinking they're energy which is Chaos, but Order is accuracy.

Try to Chaos them back first, then see what happens.

Ironic that it missed me with numerous plasma bolts but was dead accurate with the gauntlet. Must be in Storm trooper shooting school.

You reach for Chaos and Order.  The whole field of snow turns to mist, and the volcanoes quiet, and a horrible tension fills the air, and makes your teeth thrum.  As it backfires, filling you with fire you hear Phoenix's voice in your head.

"I'm here, love." And she takes the backflash into herself.  You can tell it hurts, but with the power of the Phoenix, she can take it.  OTOH, she gives you a glimpse of how far you're from Earth.

Its upwards of twenty thousand lightyears, and even for Dark Phoenix, that would have been a journey of many days.  Phoenix has no way of making it.

Remove the Order from the hand. This should cause it to decay to nothing. Removing Order and Adding Chaos could both cause decay. It would just be the difference between rusting it (Removing Order) and burning it (Adding Chaos).

So remove Order from the hand. Make it corrode.

If that works, maybe I'll try it on the whole thing.

I start the routine but as soon as I see the first boomerang, I quit that and start trying to Chaos it into dust. Chaos metal should cause it to corrode.

Is there any indication that I am on the same world as before? Did Q send me somewhere else?

OOC) Since you didn't start a new thread, I wasn't sure if Q just sent me somewhere to recoup and I would see him again later. This is something I think would really suck about being a verser. Magehammer will never know if he did more harm than good in that world. He destroyed a factory, sure. But what happens now? Did it help, or harm the indigs? Barring some extremely unforeseen circumstance, he'll wonder about that forever. That would drive you crazy after a while.

You said there's another verser sense? Periodically walk from one side of the room to the other. The idea here is to try to get an angle on the scriff sense. Is the angle shrinking or getting larger? Shrinking means they're getting closer, larger means farther away.

Who says you can't tell distance with a scriff sense?

Nothing there that intrigues me at the moment. Let's looks at Perks B.

Intuitive understanding (mild) of (Fire, Water, Length, Computers, Electricity, or Volume); Internal alarm clock; Natural Linguist; Iron stomach; Never seasick.

You get a solid link for Rachel.

"That is not how Testing works."  Acid starts to flow into the room from small slots at the base of the walls.

You start building Chaos and walk toward a wall....You stick a finger in the wall and lose control.  The finger gets spat out, broken and shredded.

Botch.

Acid is swirling around your shoes.

Hop up on the table that's in the middle of the room. Heal my finger. Check the acid on my boots. Order to neutralize that.

Watch the acid on the floor. Is it eating through the floor?

"Okay honey, you wanna play rough? I can play rough."

Draw the Chaos out of the acid and turn it into something hot enough to melt through the walls. Not necessarily the door. There might be wires or something behind the walls that I can damage to make my situation better.

You said all of my gear was here? Grab the AK-47 with the 100 round drum and prepare to leave. Once I've got a hole melted, that is.

"This is not rough. I haven't even started dissecting you yet." The flat and calm remark makes you realize that Emma is quite insane.

You heal, and then you pump Order into the acid which neutralizes the pungent liquid.

"You could probably create a very powerful bomb with that skill." Emma notes.

No, the acid is not eating  through the floor.  Emma is a mad scientist, true, but she's not stupid.

You draw the chaos out, and start to burn through the wall.  This is good that you drew the chaos out, because Emma tries to light the acid on fire, but its already neutral so t hat doesn't work.

You eat your way through the wall, and step into a corridor which is a mix of a steel walled corridor, and fungus growing off the walls, and pulsing veins.  Its a creepy mix of Evil Villain Lair and Out of Control Greenhouse of Plants Need Blood.

You see an attractive blonde standing in front of you.

"Emma wants you to go back in."  Flame bursts from her skin, and she's standing in a translucent ball of fire.

"I'm Fire Princess, let's dance, Magehammer." And suddenly the heat in the air shoots up fifty degrees.

Throw on my Order cloak. You know when I go Flame On? Except I'm not lighting myself. I'm just using it to protect me from her fire.

"You're gonna have to try harder than that Emma."

BTW, I also grabbed the backpack with the AK-47. But you knew that, I'm sure.

Just say to the attractive blonde "Look, I don't really want to do this, do you? Especially since it seems you can't really hurt me anyway. So let's just call it a draw."

"Oh puh-leeze, I eat Chaos for breakfast."

Channel her flames so that it just shoots down the corridor. Towards her, in the direction I am planning to go. That should take out anything that's waiting for me down there.

To be clear, I'm not trying to hurt her (yet). I'm just trying to channel her Chaos away from myself. As Guy Pearce said in The Road "I don't want your pistol, I just don't want you pointing it at me."

Remove Order from a wall. That should weaken it enough to put a hole in.

In my thoughts, adding Chaos would be like burning something, removing Order would be like rotting it. Let's see if that's right.

You're able to stand on a ledge made of air.  You can't see it, but you can feel it.

Its like nothing you've stood on before.  +@1 to walking and forcefields.

The removing order moves more smoothly, and the chaos goes in fits, a little, a lot, a little....The basic theory is right.  Chaos also creates more of an opportunity for other chemical reactions to occur.

"I rule Aefwal.  The sky is a darker blue than Earth That Was.  I have five district lords that report to me.  Each has their own style of district.  My district is a mix of dirt mounds with roots and some tall buildings.  I have thousands of clones who work for me  The district lords are Sylax, Fire Princess, Mechanos, Princess Carraway, and Icthon.

Sylax's district if full of hardedged metal bunkers.  Fire Princess has woods and burnt fields and caves.  Mechanos has test labs of many sizes with hundreds of robots.  Princess Carraway has tall, black crystalline skyscrapers with pools with every person being astonishing beautiful and much artwork.  Icthon's district is hard to get too since he wobbles in and out of the present moment."
