OOC) Just want to say this whilst it's in my head.

IC) I'm going to go pick up Sunspot. He's a fire mutant IIRC. When I get a chance to, see if I've got an extra Chaos knife to give to him. It would probably help him increase his powers.

Also, when I get a chance, ask my hosts which they think would be more effective. Order or Chaos. I'm going underground this time. I'm going to try to supply magical weapons to these guys.

In reply to JohnA1nut (msg # 15):

You make an Order grabber, and hook Sunspot with it.

And then the blond guy pulls a 45 degree angle away from the ground, and tries screaming to pull another one.  The ground gets close, and you're sure you're about to die.

You hit, but with all of you inside the rocket field, you bounce, and bounce again, tearing fifty foot long tears in the street between honking cars and taxis.  And then you're soaring into the sky again.

Sunspot pulls himself up your grabber, easily, and grabs your shoulder.  He's clearly being gentle, but its like a steel vise locked on to your shoulder.

The blonde girl yells...."Sam, Sentinel is following!!"

You're around the fortieth floor right now...and a Sentinel is tearing off toward you, boot jets flaming, about four hundred yards behind.

I'm on Chaos magic now.

Speaking to the rest of them:

"Guys, I'm gonna try something here. Either it'll work or it'll kill us all." I say with a laugh.

Transfer the Chaos from the Sentinel boot jets to our flying. Hopefully that will shut him down and we'll take off like a rocket. Or I'll just kill us all.

Just to clarify here. I want to transfer the Chaos energy from the Sentinel boot rockets to our forward momentum. The Sentinel's rockets should shut down sending him crashing into the ground. And we will suddenly accelerate to the speed of sound. I just hope whichever of them is doing this can hold it.

"Whaat?" Asks the dark haired girl.

"Do it." Sam orders.

And you reach out, channeling the Chaos, and...

WHOOMPH.

You're blind, and falling, and your sense of Order and Chaos is gone.  Then you hear that familiar roar, and a very strong hand grabs you.

"Hang on, this is going to be rough..." A melodious male voice says, Sunspot it is.

And you and the others crash into dirt sending it flying.  You're laying on your back, gasping for breath, blind....nothing seems broken.

"We are in New Jersey, I think." The girl says.
"Yeah, I think so, Amara. What did that guy do?  I've never broken the sonic barrier before."

Energy Transfer at Range to Momentum. 1@2. Magic.  Requires Difficult Stamina check, to avoid temporary blindness and temporary power loss.  Will result in exhaustion for ten minutes.

So I'm blind and powerless for the next 10 minutes? Magehammer has had this happen before so he's not going to be too panicked about it. At least once everything is back. He just hopes nothing happens in the next 10 minutes.

quote:
"We are in New Jersey, I think." The girl says.

I face their general direction. They should be able to tell I'm blind.

"That, my friends, was a Chaos power transfer. I transferred the Sentinel's rocket power to us. Did anybody see what happened to the Sentinel? It shoulda crashed."

But once my sight and powers come back, find a piece of random iron somewhere and beat on it until I determine if I can make black iron in this world.

Assuming that works (15@10 Magic, right ref?) I'm going to pull out my own hammer and create an ice cube out of thin air with it. Then I'm going to toss a small fireball at something harmless.

"I can make weapons that will let anyone do that. And more."

The thing I really want to try to make is a Chaos bow. It's something I came up with in the game I was running. It's a bow made from Chaos wood that fires a bolt of pure Chaos energy compressed into a projectile that hits with the force of a 12 gauge slug. The Chaos energy builds up in the space between the bow and the string. No arrows. Once you release the string, the Chaos energy folds down into an explosive bolt projectile. I bet somebody here would find that interesting.

OOC) I'm just going to have to remember that this is not the game I'm running and my ideas might not mesh with the referee here. But I hope they will.

When your eyes come back, and ten minutes later, the sense of Order and Chaos does as well, you see Manhattan in the far distance.  You're on a hillside, with an empty pasture overlooking an eight lane freeway.

You look around and after five minutes find a chunk of horseshoe, rusted and old.  You start working with it.  In another ten minutes a Native American girl pulls up next to the pasture on the access road in a Jeep.

OOC) This is more so I don't forget. Something for you to put on the back burner for a while. Not doing it just yet. Just don't want to forget it.

Referee, you may recall from Verser World that Magehammer was selling black iron kettles that could make soup out of thin air. That's Magehammer about five thousand worlds from now. Since I am much younger Magehammer, I'm going to examine the Order/Chaos patterns on something simple. A potato comes to mind. Try to make a black iron kettle that will make potatoes. I'm thinking one potato at a time to start with. Eventually work my way up to making a soup kettle. But one potato at a time and a kettle to cook them in could make all the difference in the world to a starving community.

Referee, just put that on the back burner for now.

The person using the kettle would need to fill it with water and put it on a fire. After a time, there will be a boiled potato in the kettle. The time frame is how long does it take to boil a potato? Yeah, adding water Order and fire Chaos to the magic could only help.

So, eventually, I want to examine the Order/Chaos patterns of water and potatoes. And eventually build a kettle that if filled with water and put on a fire will create boiled potatoes. In the time it would take to boil a potato. That could make enough food for a small family, anyway.

I'm thinking one quart kettle. Maybe 2 quart after I get some experience.

What do you think of that Ref? Is that something I could do?

Via Order/Chaos magic that would be insanely hard to do.  You're really goingn to want to look at other magic systems.

He hops back.  "That stung."  You can see the bonds.  His skin creates a rocket fuel, which requires Chaos to be bound into Order.  Pure Chaos won't do the job no more than shooting a flamethrower at a car with no gas will get it moving.

It looks normal.

Its going to require more work for black iron, but you're in theprocess.  Looking at wood you can see how to strengthen it, but none of the local woods look worthy of the effort.  There is Maple and a few Pines and a single diseased Hickory nearby.  You can easily see the disease Chaos inside it.

You get in the back of the Jeep, and the driver introduces herself as Danielle Moonstar.  She's Arapahoe.

You and the others speed on your way.  About ten miles down the road, you have to detour around a hundred acre lake in the middle of what used to be the freeway.  After that, they arrive in two more hours in North Baltimore.

So insanely hard; but not impossible!!! That's all I needed to hear. Besides, which would be easier? Doing the insanely hard magic with the system I know or learning an entirely different one from scratch? BTW, Tadeusz has one of those kettles that Magehammer made.

Just put it on the back burner for now ref. But you did declare it possible!!!!!

Actually Chaos is kind of what I want. Cut a branch from the diseased Hickory. I'm going to try to manipulate the Chaos of it into strength and flexibility. Remove this Chaos to make it strong, change this Chaos into flexibility. That's a perfect candidate to try to make that Chaos bow I was talking about.

Using only black iron Chaos tools.

OOC) Referee's call on if it's possible, of course. I'm just trying what I would try. I want to end up with a bow that fires Chaos bolts.

"Its okay, ah, Magehammer.  We all had to learn our powers.  I knocked enough holes into the X-Men mansion that Wolverine threatened to make me sleep in the gazebo back when I was learning control." Cannonball says, offering a hand to shake.  He's as tall as you, while the others are all shorter.

He grimaces and agrees to let you try again.  You gather Chaos energy, and start hooking it to the Order points in his skin, and there are many,  many of them.  Its time consuming work, rather like crocheting with your mind.

1@1 Create Rocket Fuel, ten minutes for minor bit, requires complete concentration, stamina check.

You pick up the Hickory limb.  You could add enough Order to drive out the Chaos, but that would also stiffen it.  It might be possible to layer chaos and order like fillo dough for strength and flex.

"Extra....well, there are alternate realities.  Perhaps you get your magic from them.  I'm not really sure.  Magic is so not my thing." Cannonball says.  "Magik might know."

"A mutant lost control, we think.  Its incidents like this that make the Norms agree to the Sentinels." Sunspot says.  "As to th ings in the lake, well there are rumors...."

So if I can make rocket fuel, I can make anything. So when I get a chance, examine the Order/Chaos patterns in a potato, and try to imprint those exact patterns to a black iron kettle. Add Order water and Chaos heat and you've got a boiled potato. When I get a chance. That's still in the back of referee's head.

quote:

The reason I picked a diseased branch is that it's chock full of chaos. I don't necessarily want to remove or cover up the Chaos. I want to change it into a different form. Change it into flexibility and speed. Change it into raw Chaos energy. Manipulate what's left of the Order in the wood into strength. Try not to add any if possible. Remember I want a bow that fires Chaos energy. Like the Ranger's bow in this clip.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JjhQ1Oi_3k

Remember that show? Looks like episodes of it are on YouTube.

OOC) If you are absolutely dead-set that I'm trying something which is impossible with this magic, don't hesitate to rule against it. I mean, that is your job. All I'm saying though is so far, all you've said is that it would be difficult. Well, difficult is a looooong way from impossible.

Frankly, I don't think you're going to rule very much if anything impossible. I think you're curious to see what I can come up with.

Is that Bobby Drake? Iceman? If so, give him an Ordered nail.

Maybe make an ice laser or something. It'll also tell me if things like that will work.

When we're driving by, try to look at the lake with Order sight. See if I can see anything. I'm looking for obviously man made. Norm bases. Anything military.

Something I always thought was really cool is water. H2O. Two parts hydrogen, one part oxygen. In the gaseous state, this would probably be close to the optimal explosive mixture. But it puts fires out. And people say there is no God. Break down the Order holding the molecular bonds together, add a bit of Chaos, and that lake just became a huge hydrogen explosion. Not a hydrogen bomb, just a balloon full of hydrogen. Enough to do some damage to whatever is in there though.

Not doing it yet of course. Just looking for now.

OOC) I'll get to your game soon, I promise. I'm just enjoying this one for the moment.

I'm going to need regular access to blacksmithing, wood and iron. But I can help stop these Sentinels.

Ask if anyone has ever heard of Magehammer. I made magical black iron tools and weapons last time I was here. Do any of these still exist? I think they would only be Order. He was just beginning as an Order mage last time.

I want to find out if this is the same world I was in before.

Its Sunspot aka Bobby aka Roberto Da Acosta.

You don't see anything from the water, and then you remember that water is such a mix of Chaos and Order that its hard to do magic over it.  Water, for an Order or Chaos Mage is a null spot.

You see a strange glass window through which you can see many tools for a super-advanced forge.  The door is locked by an electronic lock.  Its empty and not in use as the owner, Forge, has not visited in the last few months.

The potato overall is gaining Chaos as it decays.  But diving deeper, and you run into massive complexity.  Again, easier to make a nuke than a potato.

You're able to turn the branch into a very strong, and flexible short whip.

A woman stands in front of you, in silver armor, with a sword across her back.  You look up, and her hair is white, her eyes are red, and her head has long curving horns extending from it.

Is it a null spot or is it a perfect material from which to cause creation? If it's a perfect mix of Order and Chaos, then theoretically, water could be an Order/Chaos mage's best friend. It just needs to be Ordered and Chaosed in the right way. That's what I'm hoping for anyway.

But not impossible to make a potato. That's all I need. When I get the chance try to imprint this exact pattern of Order and Chaos onto a black iron kettle. Once filled with water, it should transmute the water into a potato. If water is a perfect mix of Order and Chaos then anything could be made from it with this magic. "Sorry, man.  Illyana is...."
"Three parts crazier than Magneto, and one part a nice girl." Mirage says.  Cannonball grimaces, and then nods.
"Don't call her 'honey' in the future." He says.
"Although giving her the knife was a good thing." Mirage adds.  "When she says she's a princess of Hell, she's being literal....she grew up the apprentice to a demon lord in some Hell dimension that she gated to by mistake.  Only escaped a year back.  She's had a rough life."

Rahne Sinclair opens it for you.  First try.  And you're inside Forge's automated lab.

It takes you a couple days, but you get your Order staff.
