"Although giving her the knife was a good thing." Mirage adds.  "When she says she's a princess of Hell, she's being literal....she grew up the apprentice to a demon lord in some Hell dimension that she gated to by mistake.  Only escaped a year back.  She's had a rough life."

"I'm hoping to make more of those knives."

I don't imagine I'd have much to say about the princess of hell part. Not sure I believe it.

Rahne Sinclair opens it for you.  First try.  And you're inside Forge's automated lab.

Can I actually use it to blacksmith? I'm trying to keep a low profile here.

It takes you a couple days, but you get your Order staff.

But can anyone else do magic with it?

Sam shakes his head.  "My father was a deacon.  Not really into magic."
Rahne looks scared. "The reverend, not my father, but so cruel..." she turns away.
Mirage is willing, and it works for her.  "Tastes like white men's magic." She frowns.
Magik shakes her head.  "The DarkRealms taints all it touches.  Don't give it to me."  She holds up your dagger, and you see its strange and twisted now with the magic swirled to match the horned skull on its pommel.
Bobby shrugs.  "The saints will protect me." And he uses it.  "Cool."

You're using the lab to blacksmith away.  +@1 for new use in super-tech smithery even if its mostly just the same.

You have made another Chaos dagger.

"Whoa!!! I did not make that!!! I don't want that back!! Do whatever you want with it, but I do not want it back!!!!!"

So I've made an Order staff and a Chaos blade. Who could use what, and what can they do with them?

"Who is watching out for the Sentinels? Last time I was here, they got the drop on me. I'd like to not have that happen again."

In reply to JohnA1nut (msg # 41):

Magik nods in agreement as if that's perfectly reasonable while Sam glares at you.  He then transfers that glare to Bobby who hurries back to his watching post.  Magik puts the knife on a new belt she wears.

Edit.  Mirage could use the Order staff to fight very well defensively.  And the Chaos dagger to make her pschyic arrow attack much stronger.

Bobby could use the Order staff to draw in more sunlight, to repower himself.  The Chaos dagger burned his skin when he was powered up, but otherwise did not bother him.

Magik claims that the corrupt Chaos dagger can slice darkling skin quite readily.  She cannot even bear to pick up the Order staff.  She also points out that your hammer resisted her Soulblade attack, and thats unusual because one of the Soulblade's key properties is to break enchantments.

So they can use my weapons. That's just what I wanted to hear.

Try to keep my head down and continue making magic weapons. Keep alert for sentinels.

Two weeks pass as you make more weapons.  A Sentinel passes by overhead, but other than a moment of panic and fearful waiting, nothing happens.  It keeps going.

The next day, a man with a red flush to his skin, and short, black hair sticks his head in.

"So, you like my lab?  My name's Forge."

I give him first an Order hammer, then a Chaos hammer. See which one he likes better. See if he can do any magic with them.

He enters and does a few things to his lab so that you have a better working space, and a robot arm that hands you things as you need it.

I'm confused here by his question.

"During the First Mutant War, someone created a few black iron weapons.  Eventually dissappeared.  Thing is, things calmed down.  I came onto the scene about this time, and started creating robots to rebuild things.  Simplest way was to restore things back to how they were.  I mean, the map and blueprints were already there.  I just needed to unleash my bots.  So I did.  Saved a lot of lives from starvation.  We rebuilt the world.  Then I lost control of my bots, well, some of them. The rest I self-destructed rather than let someone else have them.  The bots rebuilt the Sentinels, and now we're in the Second Mutant War.  And you're back.....seems interesting."

Nobody bothered to tell me that building magical weapons would bring those metal mothers down like a rainstorm. So now I'm trying to keep lowkey and atone for my previous mistakes. I can change the course of this war. At least I think so. I hope so."

I ask him what magical weapon he'd like to have.

"Order or Chaos?"

"Glad to see I'm not alone here. Thanks."

quote:

"One Order staff coming up."

When I finish that, I spin the staff for a few seconds, then make a throwing gesture. The object is to throw a wall of Ordered wind.

If that works, "That's one thing you can do with it."

"I see." And you do see a focused intensity in his gaze.  He's clearly smarter than average.

He takes the staff, and after a bit his gaze gets really in the zone.  He's not listening to you.  Instead, he's just moving the staff very slightly.  Then he comes out of his trance.

"You should be able to use this to shoot a laser.  After all, Light amplification by stimulation of radiation.  You get all the light waves marching in the same direction, at the same time....you can turn a lightbulb into a metal burning ray.  Orderly."

Take the staff. "Or add Order to a fire to create a flamethrower."

Demonstrate on the fire in the forge.

Just want to shoot a flame a few feet, for demonstrations.

"What do you think? You think a guy like Flame On could use one of these? Or you think he'd do better with a Chaos weapon?"

OOC) I don't know the mutant's real name. I'm sure you know who I'm talking about though. The guy in DOFP who exploded in flames and was throwing fireballs.

You shoot it a few feet.

"If you're fighting, oh, ants or some swarmbots, then the fire is good, but that fire is not even going to scratch a Sentinel.  Particularly if its in Shield Mode.  A laser dumps more energy into a smaller space.  Of course, lasers stink in a dust cloud, and we get plenty of those in a superbattle."  He pauses.  "Yeah, I know the guy you mean.  I can bring him one if you like.  I'm not staying here long; I do a long circuit, check in on various cells."

"Yeah, well, maybe you'll have to light a whole bunch of cigarettes or something."

Ask him to tell me about the Sentinels. I don't know jack about them. I would prefer of course something more like the purple Sentinels built by Trask industries from DOFP than the unstoppable Nimrod Sentinels. (Nimrod is used as an insult, but it actually means Mighty Warrior.)

Something else to try with the staff. Hold it at arm's length and try to make a shield. An Order shield the diameter of the staff.

He tells you about the swarmbots, which are about the size of a chicken and the speed of a wolf.  Then he discusses the Basic Sentinel, which is what you met in the city.

Its got flight, light armor, shield mode, significant repair capacity, some ability to modify itself to deal with an attack, significant strength, excellent medium range scanning gear, and good antivirus defenses.  It can be armed with a variety of weapons, primarily ranged energy weapons.  Sometimes electrified cables are used as well.

Sometimes it works alone or in a trio.

Alpha Sentinels are significantly smarter, stronger, more defended.  They can also, given time create Basic Sentinels.

He's seen Orbit Sentinels, and Tracker Sentinels.  Both are primarily noncombatant in their roles although they do have weapons.  There are rumors of other sentinels as well, special mods like a Swamp Sentinel and so forth.

Just making conversation, who cares if they understand the reference at all.

"Reminds me of the T-600. SkyNet's first attempt at making Terminators which could pass for human. One incarnation was the Reaver. T-600 Reaver, or Ghoul, or any number of other unmentionable names. Didn't have hands and thus could not hold or fire any kind of weapon. No, the fingers were double bladed monofilament razor blades. They would just rip you to pieces. Slowly. Or fast. Or both. All the while recording, playing back and amplifying your screams for all of the other survivors to enjoy."

I don't want to stay in one spot. Does this guy travel? I want to travel.

He nods, clearly accepting what you said, but not knowing anything about it.

And yes, he travels quite a bit.  He's on a circuit to check a lot of different cells.  He tells you that he's okay taking you to the next spot on the circuit, but that there is a telepath, and she'd have to read your mind in order for him to be sure you're trustworthy enough to get access to multiple cells in the fight.

Tell her to read my mind. If that doesn't short circuit her telepathy, then we're all good.

I am thinking about making magical weapons for these people to use to fight back in their war. That's my objective. I can make them from iron and from wood. Dunno what else I could make them from. But no time like the present to find out.

But continuing idly with the guy. "Yeah, up until about the 500 or 600 series, SkyNet was trying to out breed the humans. Creating lots and lots of weak units that could be destroyed with your average 12 gauge shotgun. SkyNet had to balance resources, time, all kinds of factors. But despite the fact that it would take the human offspring six to eight years to have any kind of combat efficiency, the humans were still reproducing far faster than SkyNet had anticipated. I guess it didn't consider how quickly and how often humans engage in the act of reproduction when they are scared out of their minds. So SkyNet finally decided instead of making 100 units with a 5 to 1 kill ratio, it focused on making 5 units with a 200 to 1 kill ratio. Thus, the T-800 was born."

Just something for the referee. I think versers would start to lose their minds after a while. Everything would become a blur. Magehammer was born as John Connor and he did have a T-800 chasing him. The rest of that about the Terminators is from a cannon fan site, comics, novels, etc. Would Magehammer realize that he didn't actually live through the SkyNet War? That's something I wonder about.

So yeah, as far as he's concerned, he's telling that guy the truth.

Forge nods.  "It is my worry that the Sentinels could find a way to make Alpha Sentinels as easy as Basic Sentinels.  That would be a game-changer."

====================

Its eight hours of travel, and you arrive in a coastal town of South Carolina.  Beccera, S.C. is a medium sized beach city that used to be a bit of a tourist trap, but is now rundown.  Inside a Dairy Queen, you meet a girl with short red hair.

She looks at you after you sit down across from her with Forge, and then fire floats about her, and inside her eyes you see a bird of flame.

Magehammer, my name is Rachel Summers.  I would like to have and Order Staff and a Chaos Knife.

Forge gets up.

Thinking back, doing telepathy "Any relation to Alex or Scott Summers? Aka Havok and Cyclops? But sure. Order staff and Chaos blade coming right up."

Find a tree from which to cut the Order staff. Gonna have to find a forge to make the knife. Or I could just Chaos up some heat to do it. Don't really need a forge.

Thinking to Rachel "When I was here before, the Sentinel called me 'Magehammer, Alpha class extra-dimensional magician.' I liked that."

When I make weapons, I'm making a few. Not just one Order staff and one Chaos knife. I'm making as many as I can with the time and resources allotted me. I just hope they work to turn the tide of this war.

Scott Summers is my father. Jean Grey is my mother.

Powered individuals are usually measured by Gamma-latents, Delta-very minor powered, Beta-strong, Alpha-capable of taking on an Alpha Sentinel or otherwise of great power, and Omega--highest class.

Rachel disappears, and you walk with Forge to a warehouse in the commercial district.

You make a half-dozen staffs, and four knives in a smaller roboforge while Forge retunes their weapons.  Most of these mutants don't have direct attack powers so they carry Forge made laser blasters.  Your weapons are a welcome addition.

Rachel returns after a few days, and takes up the offered weapons of yours both at once.  Then her eyes flame with firebirds, and the fire surrounds her, and the knife melts and the staff burns to ash.
