In reply to JohnA1nut (msg # 2):

OOC: You versed out.  If you liked the previous world, its inspired by Skyler Grant's 'A Futuristic Dungeon Core: Laboratory' series with Emma the more than slightly evil AI out to experiment for SCIENCE!!!!

IC:  A cackling and levitating laptop is chasing you over hill and dale, trying to attach a third arm to your back so that you'll be able to scratch your back anytime you need too.  And then you trip and go head over hills down a heel, and land on your back in a cornfield.

Its at this point, you realize its probably real.  You smell corn stalks, feel something slightly leathery with a hand, and smell warm earth under your back.  Opening your eyes, you see the corn stalks go up about two feet into a blue sky with a huge red splotch a couple fist's wide in the sky, and a yellow sun that beams down on you.

No verser senses.

You're in the middle of a twenty acre cornfield.  The corn stalks have a slight bluish edge that you're not used to but other than that, t hey are normal.  Tall hedges serve as windbreaks at the edge of the field, and you see another field with the same thing.  Beyond that, you see and hear a steam shovel scream as it chops into some trees in part of a thick forest.  Another man near it is using a flamethrower on the trees, but it does not seem to work well.

In the opposite direction is a stone tower with what looks like a cannon on the roof.

Ask him if he needs any help, then pull out my flamethrower..... hammer and torch the tree for him.

"So, uh, what's going on around here?"

He's stopped his flamethrower as he sees you come up.

"Help? Sure. Do you know how to use a steam shovel, or dynamite, or a flame thrower?"  He looks at your hammer, and laughs.  "This ain't a Landing City grove, man.  This is The Forrest.  We got a bit nipped off, but its still fighting."

And you feel no magic.

He lights up his flamethrower again, pointing it to one particularly thick tree.  "Itz a popper. Bout to blow."  And then suddenly holes appear in the truck and a wind rushes from it, disturbing leaves, as the tree shrinks in size, and the fire goes out.  You and the man cough a bit.

"CO2. The Forrest will try to kill you.  That's why you got to take out the Spikers first, and any Wrangler Vines, and then the Poppers. You still want a job.  Its good pay, but real dangerous."

OOC) Hey Tadeusz, I hate to be a rules lawyer, but as I'm sure you're aware, there are numerous magical skills which still work in a flatline magic bias. Creating darkness and light are two which come to mind. I can check Da Rulezzz if you'd like. I just don't want to be deprived of ALL of my magic.

I'm sure you understand.

"Blacksmith?" He frowns. "You can get a job in a metal forming shoppe.  We haven't used blacksmiths for some decades.  But....you can walk back to that farm tower, and turn left on the road....or you can wait til nightfall, and hop a ride with us."

The steam shovel hoots, and a stump gets ripped out of the ground, and then the stump catches fire, burning in many different colors.  The man with you just grunts.

OOC) Yeah, healing, darkness and light are the ones I know off the top of my head. I remember that from when I was passing out magical weapons to players. Let me check Da Rulezzz and I'll get back to you.

IC) What's psionics like?

"I think I'll walk."

So I start heading that direction. What am I worried about though? I've probably got enough gold and diamonds to live comfortably for some time. Why work? Make this a vacation world.

In reply to JohnA1nut (msg # 11):

Psionics comes very easily.

You walk through the cornfield of young stalks, and past the farm tower with its roof cannon, and get to a road that looks like rocky cement.  Its only one lane, and as you walk on, every half-mile you spot a turn around or pass by with a wider section of road.  The road is arrow straight, but at the same time somewhat slipshod.

You come to a crossing of strips, and take the right toward some tall, thin, blue towers.  After another mile, your third, a feeling of something coming behind you presses on your mind.

Try to use psionic telescopic sight to zoom in on that. What details can I see? I'm looking specifically for places to sell gold and gems. I think I'm going to forgo working for the minute. Just live large off my savings.

Glance around, see what I see. Use telescopic vision there too.

I can fly with psionics, but I'm not sure I want to put on a show (just yet) so keep walking. Maybe if I see someone else flying....

There are elegantly curved blue crystal skyscrapers??.  Off to the side, are two purple skyscrapers, and between them is a quarter of a giant hoop, like the London Eye Ferris Wheel, but made of multi-colored and glowing crystals.  It is being constructed.

Nearly everyone you see has a weapon, or two.  At least a hatchet.  There are a lot of uniforms.

You don't see any gold sellers places.

Looking behind you down the road, you see a metal wagon with an awning, and a glowing crystal attached to the front.  A girl is holding her hand on the crystal, and a guy is driving with a crude turn bar.  Its coming your way.  And suddenly you realize that the approaching crystal is what you feel.

Flag them down. Ask for a ride.

When you say "Uniforms" what kind? TV Repairmen or Police?

Lots of weapons. Good. I'm carrying at least four guns myself.

Otherwise, keep going.

Its a mix, and a lot of them are not clear on which side of the line they are.

The silent, except for the rolling of the metal wheels, vehicle smoothly slides to a stop near you.  They are glad to have you join  them.  The girl wearily gets out, and climbs in back, and lays down next to two others who are sleeping.  The driver points at the crystal, after you get in front.

The vehicle is crude and bare of much comfort, but simply and solidly designed.  It has more relation to a Little Red Wagon than a modern American automobile.

I point at the crystal too. "Yeah, what is that thing? I can almost feel something from it."

Ask if any of them are willing to trade gold or gems for the local currency. Or if they know where I can get it changed. If I can avoid it, I'd rather not work this world. Just find me a nice little apartment somewhere and relax.

The girl who just got in the back. How old is she? She cute? She date material?

The driver looks at you strangely.

"You're a Sensitive, and you don't know how to use a basic drive crystal?  Just touch it, and focus your will on moving, demand the power crystal to move forward."

The ones in the back are sleeping, indeed the rather cute brunette is already asleep. She's in her late twenties. The driver says that you can trade the gold in at the Imperial Gold Exchange in Jump City.  The 'crystals' he says are of perhaps some use to one of the crystal forming groups, h e says dismissively.

I thank him for the information and give him a diamond when we reach our destination.

He wakes up one of the sleepers who grumbles, but gets up and touches the crystal and focuses.  The wagon moves forward.

When you get to town, they're happy to be rid of you, and when you give the driver a diamond, he just looks at it and then takes it and tosses it on the seat beside him.  They drive off, and you have to walk several blocks to get to the four story tall building of adobe.

The first floor has a large metal sign that looks golden.

Imperial Gold and Silver Exchange.

Walking in, you see a couple people in line in front of you.  There is a long desk, and an office space behind it.  It has the feel of a gov't run operation.  No one is in any particular rush.  The waiting room chairs are bland and rusted in spots.  No one smiles.

Eventually, the two in front ofyou get done, and a weary and bored looking middle aged matron stares through you.

"Next." She says with all the warmth of three day old mac and cheese.

How much gold do I have? I would guess it's in the two digits of pounds, at least.

I get to the counter, and I say "Yes Roz, I'd like to cash these in please?"

Then ask casually "How much do you earn here in a year?"

Trying to find out how much the money is worth.

50 pounds.

"One pound, pure, is 100 Imperial Credits.  If you have provenance.  If not, its 70." You don't have paperwork to back up where you bought it from naturally.

She glares for a second, but its too much like work so she stops.

"1000 creds.  Its a shame. I work so hard, and have been at this job even back in the Old World."  She complains.  She seems to be decently well paid.

Is Roz cute and dateable or is she an old hag? I'm guessing old hag.

If she's cute and dateable:

"Well Roz, I'd like to cash in 15 pounds of gold. That should give me 1050 credits, which is enough to live here for a year. Then, I'd like to take you out for a luxurious dinner at a place of your choosing."

If she's an old hag, ask her where she recommends I go for dinner.

OOC) Bonus points if you know where I got the name Roz.

How are the credits issued? Are they on a credit card or what?

Credits are octagonal aluminum coins with some sort of crystal in the center.  They give you a couple small bags for the moneys.

Its a few blocks over, and you walk in past the veggie and meat displays to the tables in back.  Its not remotely fancy, and everyone sits down at the same table.  Lamb kebabs, hamburger kale cream cheese roll, vinegary salad, and mayo heavy salad, fried carrots, candied carrots, corn mush with milk, chicken spaghetti soup, and a dessert of dozen berry pie.

Its  a half cred.

You hear people talk about crystal forming, and another break through of the trees, and when your drink is brought out, everyone looks at you, and then one of them raises a toast.

"To the Emperor." And they all drink.

Hang onto some of these. These I could imagine would be valuable on many worlds.

I'm not sure if you should be using more commas or less commas, but I really like this spread either way. Stuff myself.

Ask around about purchasing a home or finding something more permanent than a hotel room. Is somebody maybe looking for a roommate? Any homes for sale? Long-term apartments? I think Magehammer might want to relax after some of the adventures he's had. He's just hoping The Great Referee in the Sky will cooperate........

Roz is a good choice.  But with less energy.

The government is more than willing to set you up to be a farmer, especially on the Outer Rim, near the Forrest.  Some say its dangerous, but others point that a Tower of Sensitives would be near to you.

You can get a barracks cot for workers on the Great Ring.

You can also rent a room in one of Home Towers.  Its an apartment.  The prices are steep even for small apartments, but you do have a lot of money.

No one shares apartments, and when you ask one fellow laughs.

"Harmony is required for living together.  Otherwise the strain on a mind...."  And indeed, you notice that these folk seem unusually perceptive.  Not super, just sharper than expected.

After your toast, there are some tears in some folks' eyes,a nd people mention Good Emperor Gregor and 'those rabble.'

As night comes, you see gas lamps get lit.

I think I'll do that. Until I can find a house, that is. Where are they?

OOC) I read about a homeless guy that was given $100,000 to see what he would do with it. Within 6 months, he was back on the street. If that was me, I would have bought a $50,000 house free and clear then nobody could take it from me. Once I had that, I could live on the other $50,000 for three years, easy.
