Re:  The Rivers Gate

Quietly waiting for the others to speak, Vespian looks up and down the roads. Examing signs, roads, shop displays. She is also looking for signs of an organized town gaurd as well as beggars or street urchin that might be able to give directions.

Re:  The Rivers Gate

"In a world of fell beasts and orc hordes, the persistent skepticism of the plebeian for law and faith is truly confounding and frustrating," utters Bazyli shaking his head.

Recovering from his minor bout of frustration, Bazyli addresses Vespian again, "Nevertheless, Siamorphe appears to have led me to an affable company.  Let me join you and your band, Mistress, for the toils of the road are upon me in full.  After a lounge, I must seek a tailor for to fashion some appropriate vestments, but if your assembly should require the skills of this Deacon Bazyli Urgarius, they are at your service."

Bazyli follows the rest inside.

Re:  The Rivers Gate

The five newly met party members make there way to the gates. The once spacious crowd has now condensed itself into a tight knit snaking trail, making it much less spacious. The crowd wonders on for a bit making their way inside the main gates, the process is slow going and sporadic, coming to a complete stop on occasion and speeding to a slight hustle at other times. Further up the line, one can see that sentries line the top of the wall, there also seems to be a few sentries manning the front gates, watching as people enter the city.

"I welcome your company good priest, though I do not speak for all of us." She looks to Milo and Gimuld. What say you lads, perhaps the company of the good priest will bring us luck? She feels her nearly empty money pouch inside her chain shirt and behind her belt. I could use a measure of luck that brings coins with it Eh?

A priest is many times a good thing, although I hope his goddess is fair and kind. But for now, about that tavern...

"Amen to that, good lady.  I hear there is work in this town, and while I am no hired swordarm, I do long to hear the jingling of gold.  I'd just as soon we find the local guild for such endeavors as anything else."

Bazyli scans the area for a tavern, "As is though, I imagine I can still foot a round of ale."

Bazyli turns to reply to Gimuld, "Siamorphe is just and noble...and it is the job of her clerics to insure that all in power act likewise."

Whistling a merry tune, merry enough to break the eardrums of anyone with any sense of tone, A huge half-orc, carrying a huge double axe, eats up the highway with huge strides.  Grinning hugely, he slows only when he's about to run into the gate guards "Hail!  And Well Met!"  I roars, hugely, in passible - if strangely accented - common.

Re:  The Rivers Gate

OOC: Erdthar is ahead of the group. He is just now entering the gates

To Erdthar
As you approach the gates you find little difficulty in working your way to the front just as you are about to enter the main gates, a large over built human in full plate steps out from his guard post. "You sir!" He points to Erdthar with his halberd, ignoring the orcs bid of good day. " you sir, step aside please, and state your business in the city this day." The guard points to a nook just beyond the gates "Over there Sir. They will take your statement" Two more soldiers await in the nook. It does seem like a little bit of discrimination as Erdthar is one of the only ones pulled aside.

The two men in the nook look at Erdthar with an awkward eye "Ey, You, state your business, what’s an Orc like you doing coming to the city. Your not here to cause trouble are ya? We'll keep our eyes on you."

To the Others
Within moments you will be upon the gates. There are many townsfolk around that might be able to answer some of your questions or at least point you in the direction of a good tavern, if that is what you wish.

Hmm, well jobs sometimes can be found in a tavern. I think I need some ale first... beer... wine... alcohol... and some strong cider.

Over hearing the groups conversation about drinks and work, the old women that Gimuld was speaking to chimes in. "say boy, I din get err name. You and your group look like a stout group of lads.... and lases." She adds the last bit after seeing Vespian. "we sure could use more o' your kind in these parts.,,,Names Molly" She states loadly with her toothless gums flapping and an out stretched hand. "say if'n yer look'n for a good place to go eat'n and catch a tale 'er two, well then I'd head to "Goat's" best joint in town, if'n yer ask'n me" she pushes on her cart to get the donkey to move forward with the line as she finishes talking.  "if'n yer new to town I can show yous the way, I got a spot right out front a Goats to sell me wares, so I's already head'n that way if'n you want to tag along, more than welcome?"

Vespian listens to Molly's words. WOW! Directions to the very place we had to find, possible work and drink! She then looks over at the priest and gives him a hearty slap on the back. By the stars, you are lucky to have around! Then she thinks for a moment, But I need to be honest with you, unless an enchanted Greatsword drops out of the sky right now. I am not converting. She gives the sky an hopefull glance, just in case.

"Converting?" says Bazyli as he gives Vespian a queer look, " I serve Siamorphe as a deacon, but I would be a fool if I didn't look to other heroic deities for guidance.  "Conversion" is not an element of my mandate, Mistress.  Besides...and I mean no offense, but I would not wager that you are quite what Siamorphe is looking for."

Bazyli turns his attention to Molly as he follows her toward the gate.

"Your kindness is met with gratitude, Gentlewoman.  May I ask what manner of vendibles you deal in?"

The guard looks you up and down as he pats you on the shoulder and shakes. "well ya seem like a stout lad, take my advise, make your self usefull round here, The Shields dont take much to vagrants." He removes his hand from your shoulder and looks you in the eye for a breif moment. "Go ahead, move along." He steps to the side, and for the first time you can see across the moat to the main city.

A group of people walks beside you as you work your way across the moat. The group consist of a Halfling and his Dog Two Humans and an Elf half bread Women,  it seems an elf also tags along behind. They speak with an old women pushing a cart as they walk, it is easy to overhear their conversation.

Bazyli Urgarius:
"Your kindness is met with gratitude, Gentlewoman.  May I ask what manner of vendibles you deal in?"

"Well sonny I deal and trade all sorts of wares, less see today I got some fine crafted wood bowls and spoons, I deal with trinkets and I just got some rare spices from down in Auvandell. I come across the occasional rare item here and there, and if'n I aint got what yer look'n fer , well then I knows someones that does. But my most popular item would be my fresh made sugar almonds, they make a might fine snack." She smacks her lips as she thinks of the almonds.  She seems to lose her train of though for a brief second and then keeps speaking." I tell you one thing if'n yer new here, you be watchin those damn cut purses, they grown'n like wild fire, with a lot o' the guards gone off and all" She points to the main gates, "Once we get up her to the gates we gunna make a left b'fore "windswept way", go round back to "Ironleaf Trail", that ways I can park me cart. You boys stay close, and watch them purses!" She franticly works her way through the crowd pushing her way through, she moves with practiced precision.

A rather large Half-Orc comes from a nook located at the main gates he walks along side the group.

Some what startled by the large orc, Molly turns to look at him quickly as she continues to walk. When she turns she dips her hand into her apron pocket, and pulls forth a nicely wrapped bundle of almonds. It is a large handful of sugared almonds wrapped tightly in a cloth pouch. She hands them over to Erdthar with an outstretched hand. With a large smile she exclaims " 2 silver bits a bushel, my dear." She is a well practiced merchant being able to keep her pace, as she makes the sale.

Notes Quindil's step back from the rest. She turns and addresses him, My pardon's traveller, but might I ask you name? I find your interest in this lucky priest's, "fell beast" interesting, though I do hold my own beliefs that it is the character and free will of creatures that determine their nature, not the race they were born into. She smiles, Not many agree though..,

Gimuld pulls out his purse and hands Molly 2 silver pieces. After that he secures his purse in a harder to get place, like next to his heart.

OOC:
How much does a bushel of almonds weigh?  I always thought a bushel was a rather large basketfull - a bit more than a cubic foot.  Wheat is around 60 pounds per bushel. so nuts would be about the same?

Re:  The Rivers Gate

Name's Quindil Liahstia.  I was curious as to the nature of this Fell Beast, as some there are some creatures I beleive should not exist.  Creatures such as Beholders, who have become a twisted and evil mockery of nature should be destroyed completely and utterly.
Quindil's voice adopts a harsh edge as he continues.  If this Fell Beast is such a creature, I would dearly love to hunt it down and crush it.
Then he falls quiet again, and continues in a softer tone.
My apologies for my little tirade.  I do believe that character is most important in a creature, but I also believe that there are some creatures that will always be evil.

Bazyli raises his eyebrows in mild offense and takes a step back as the others interrupt him to grab some nuts.

Once they calm down, he addresses Molly again, ""Now that that is over with Gentlewoman, I must ask...as you know this town, perhaps you could direct me to the nearest tailor, or any other potential furnisher of some appropriate clerical vestments?  While I am indeed far from the grace of Waterdeep, I should hope that this road attire does not suffice for nobility in this burg."
