Pietro Maximoff ~ Quicksilver
Name: Pietro Django Maximoff
Identity: Public
Height: 5'11" | 1.81 m
Weight: 180 lbs | 82 kgs
Hair: White/Silver
Eyes: Blue
Distinguishing Characteristics: Silver hair, the inability to truly ever sit still/relax
Marital Status: Single
Known Relatives: Erik Magnus Lensher [Magneto, Father], Lorna Dane [Sister], Wanda Maximoff [Fraternal twin sister], Django Maximoff [Adopted Father, deceased], Marya Maximoff [Adopted mother, deceased]
Occupation: Mercenary. Suspected Terrorist. Former Avenger.
Legal Status: Russian citizen, wanted for questioning in connection with various hate crimes against humanity
Personality Profile: Outwardly, Pietro has an almost arrogant and haughty disregard for the people, and the world, around him. Much of this stems from his perceptions of that very world; when you are capable of moving at speeds faster than nearly anything else in the universe, much less on the face of the planet, and the world around you seems to move along at a crawl, you tend to see things differently. You respond differently. Another part of the constant need Pietro feels to belong, to be needed. Only one person has truly ever made him feel safe, secure - and that person is NOT his father. All of these factors have blended with his father's constant expounding on the virtues of mutant kind and the failures and faults of humanity and has left Pietro with a skewed view both himself and the world at large.
He might be truly lost if not for the love of his sister, Wanda. She is the only person he feels truly gets and understands him, the only person he would sacrifice all for. Part of him hates that she has stayed with the Avengers. Part of him wishes he had possessed the strength to return to her, or that he could join their half sister Lorna with the X-Men. While his relationship with Lorna is no where near as strong with Wanda, he accepts her as blood, as family, and has found that while her idealistic nature is a bit frustrating, he loved her. Though if he were truly think about it, the presence of Emma Frost, whom Pietro has found a strong attraction to, is as much of a pull Genosha as his father. Yet every day he seems closer to leaving, to heading to New York and his sisters.
Sadly, despite his strong personality and will, Pietro can sometimes be easily manipulated - playing to his ego, his need to belong, his fears for losing (or simply disappointing) Wanda - all of these factors have been used against him by others in the past.
Background Details: Pietro and his sister had a troubled youth. Taken from their homes, there are rumors that the twins were experimented on as babies, perhaps to harness or augment their latent mutants powers. Eventually, they were found and raised by a Romani couple, Django and Marya Maximoff, believing the couple were their parents. As they matured, and their powers started to develop, both children kept them mostly hidden. Sure, the Romani camp saw the oddities, but the family-like culture allowed the children a bit of privacy, the air of anonymity.
All this changed when, desperate to feed his starving family, Django was caught stealing food. The enraged village attacked the camp. Fearing for his sister's safety, Pietro quickly ran the two out of camp and they spent the next couple of years on the run.
Eventually found by Magneto and convinced to join his brotherhood. Pietro seemed to fall under the charismatic man's spell almost immediately. This was furthered when it was discovered that Erik was their father, that they had a sister out in the world. Finally, a family again! Still, the actions of the Brotherhood did not always sit well with the twins, leading to an eventual schism, one that pushed the twins to the Americas and into the arms of the Avengers.
It was not long before Pietro's wandering heart began to beat fast. The strictures laid forth by Captain Rogers and Anthony Stark began to feel too restrictive. Pietro begged his sister to run away with him but she felt her place was there. With a heavy heart, the prodigal son returns to his father's side, head hung low - feeling lost and defeated, not knowing where the future would lead...
Hyper-Speed: Pietro's primary power is the ability to move at hyper-speeds. Even as a young boy growing up among the Romani, he was capable of reaching speeds upwards of one hundred and fifty miles per hour and of maintaining those speeds for extended periods of time. By time he reached adolescence, and puberty, he was pushing nearly MACH 1 at sea level.
To date, the upper limits of Pietro's speed are unknown. Under the tutelage of his father, he has demonstrated running just over half the diameter of the earth (approximately 4k miles/6.437 km in this instant) in roughly ninety seconds. This equates to roughly 160,000 miles per hour. That is nearly forty-four and a half miles per second (44.4 to be exact). In running a straight line from Los Angeles, California, to New York, New York, Pietro could make the trip in just over fifty-five seconds.
While training with the Avengers, Pietro has shown the ability to actually dodge blasts of lightning emitted from Mjolnir.
Over the years, through raining and the guidance of those who recognized Pietro's potential, the young mutant has learned several hyper-speed 'tricks'. Some of those he had exhibited are:
This has extended to both his hand-eye coordination, mental facilities, and reflexes, allowing Pietro to not only run at fantastic speeds but to react accordingly.
This includes, but is not limited to, the following. Note: the exact limits of some of these abilities are, as of yet, unknown. The silver-haired mutant has been unwilling to allow testing to be done by either his father's camp or the Avengers during his brief stint as a member.
Languages: Pietro speaks fluent Russian, Serbian, and English - and is capable of speaking all three languages with native accents (when speaking 'fluent English' it is more of a lack of regional accent). He has also shown fluency in several Romani dialects.
Skilled Combatant: A brawler most of his life, relying more on his speed and reflexes than real training, Pietro found himself learning various martial arts during his brief stay with the Avengers, specifically under the tutelage of Captain America. He has continued these studied under various members of Magneto's brotherhood.
Skill Musician: Pietro has shown skills in both the piano/organ and guitar.
Potential Mental Illness: Pietro has demonstrated both deep bouts of depression and sudden flares of anger and aggression. The former has led to severe periods of self loathing and doubt, as well as the need to belong and be accepted. The later can often only be overcome by either lashing out at the source or leaving the area.
Thoughts of his sister, or visiting her/hearing her voice, are often able to break Pietro out of these spells.

By time he reached adolescence, and puberty, he was pushing nearly MACH 1 at sea level.

- Vertical and Horizontal Wall Running: Due to the speed in which he runs, Pietro's body never maintains contact long enough for friction between his body and solid surfaces to be lost. This allows him to defy gravity and along vertical surfaces and even update down.
- Water Running: Pietro's steps are so fast that he can run across the surface of water and other viscous fluids without breaking the surface tension. As long as he continues running, Pietro can run across the surface of said substances indefinitely.
- Hyper-Speed Leaping: Due to his forward moment, Pietro is capable of amazing 'forward' leaps. These distances can be extended with rapid motions of his arms and/or legs - basically 'running' through the air, creating pockets of air pressure under his body. This is not true flight, however, as Pietro had little control while moving in such a manner.
- Hyper-Speed Whirlwinds: By either rotating his limbs rapidly, or by running in fast circles while angling his body, Pietro is able to create whirlwind effects. He has used this to blow items and enemies backwards, snuff small fires, slow the rate of descent of fall objects by funneling a whirlwind up and under them, and even slowed himself from falls nearing terminal velocity by aiming the whirlwinds down.
- Hyper-Speed Vortex: Similar to the whirlwind, by running in fast circles and angling his body and limbs, Pietro has managed to create small areas of either hyper-oxygenated areas, by drawing the air in, or small vacuums by pushing the air out. He has used this in times when it is too dangerous to risk pushing the fire or embers a certain way, or cause enemies to asphyxiate.
- Molecular Acceleration/Destabilization: Through the course of his life as a mutant, his super speed has granted him numerous abilities. One of the very peculiar ones was being able to vibrate his molecular structure at high speeds. The most commonly used aspect of this ability is putting his hands on something and vibrating the molecules at a frequency there the item simply falls apart, in some cases even seeming to disintegrate.
- Intangibility: As a side affect of his ability to agitate his molecules at high speeds, Pietro has exhibited the ability to vibrate, or phase, through solid objects.
- Invisibility: My like moving his molecules fast enough to move through solid objects, Pietro is capable of moving himself fast enough to become invisible to all forms of the visible spectrum. This is most common when he is moving, however if he focuses hard enough, he can achieve invisibility even while standing still.
- Enhanced Durability: Pietro's bones and musculature structure is more durable, making him capable of resisting tremendous impact forces that could easily crush and/or kill a normal human.
- Enhanced Reflexes: His speeds, in combination with his both enhanced perceptive and cognitive abilities and his agility (see below), ensure that Pietro's reflexes and practical reaction times exceed anything possible by even the most skilled humans by several dozen degrees. This allows him to react to sudden and abrupt changes in his surroundings while moving at hyper-speeds, avoid bullets fired at point-blank ranges (including automatic gunfire coming from multiple angle) and even snatch bullets from the air.
NOTE: As made evident in multiple encounters with various super-powered beings, this does not mean Pietro Maximoff is above being surprised, caught off guard, and taken unawares.
- Accelerated Metabolism: Pietro's metabolism has shown evidence of being at least a dozen times more efficient than that being in peak physical condition. This allows him to heal much faster then normal and have an extended health and longevity - though this more closely resembles normal healing that a body would undergo, not true regeneration.
This also causes poisons and toxins to burn through his system faster - the amount of alcohol he would need to consume to become intoxicated would far exceed levels that were likely to render him comatose or even dead (this is theoretical, due to his enhanced stamina. See below).
NOTE: A detrimental side-effect to this is that it means if his body can not burn out a toxin fast enough, any detrimental effects will be felt far more quickly, possibly exacerbating the effects. This also means he is unable to be anesthetized in instances where invasive surgery are needed
- Enhanced Stamina: Pietro's cardiovascular, respiratory, and metabolic systems are far more efficient than human norms. His body generates virtually no fatigue poisons allowing him to use his powers for extended periods of time.
- Enhanced Agility: Due to his enhance musculature and ligaments, Pietro is more limber and agile than a peak human, exceeding the limits of even Olympic level athletes.
- Enhanced Strength: Due to the enhancements of his musculature and bone structure, Pietro is able to lift approximately one-thousand pounds. Do the constant exertion of his leg muscles, he is able to leg-press just over one (1) metric ton.
- Enhanced Intelligence, Perception, and Cognition: While his senses are no more 'enhanced' than a normal, albeit very attentive human, Pietro is capable of recognizing and processing information and external stimuli at superhuman speeds. This enables him to recognize, review, and react to his surroundings thousands of times faster than a normal human. It also enables him to do things like rapidly read books, study and learn new skills, and adapt to surprising situations. It is believed that, while he does not possess any cognitive abilities beyond the scope of attentive and trained humans, he perceives the world different, as if the world around him moves more slowly. This is possibly an inverse proportion to how fast he is moving in the moment.
NOTE: While Pietro has not demonstrated an enhanced memory, the ability to reread, restudy, and reexperience things multiple times in very short windows of time makes him a virtual polyglot in the moment.
- Navigation: Pietro is capable of sensing the vibrational patterns of his environment. This enables him to always recognize magnetic north and provides some details of his surroundings. It is believed that this helps facilitate navigation while traveling at hyper-speeds, making his movements seem instinctive in nature, even when lacking landmarks and visual queue, such as while running across an open ocean.
- Hex Resistance: Pietro has been shown resilience to his sister's Hex powers, likely due to their status as fraternal twins. It is theorized that Wanda may possess similar resistances to certain aspects of Pietro's powers as well. It is unknown if this 'resiliency' extends to other blood relatives or, if it does, to what degree.
