Master Aurum (or Aurum Gaulauntyrardumarungyrtumiirimeirvalospalaxragothandusk, his full gold wyrm name) spends most of his time in one of three human forms, and alternates between them as circumstances dictate. The first one is an elderly human male in his sixties, with a friendly round face, thick mustache, small round glasses, graying gold hair, and blue eyes. He tends to dress in gold-trimmed red robes in this form and in his second form, similar but about thirty years younger, except that his golden hair is longer and split down the middle. He calls himself Eddie in his last form, appearing as an eleven year-old boy with large blue eyes, the same small round glasses, and a beret that's too big for his head.

His youngest daughter Echo, who recently turned sixteen, lives with him in a stone tower on an isolated island northeast of Andamar. She spends more time in her true form than he does: humans avoid the stone tower, thinking it haunted. The occasional plumes of smoke and deep roars heard within reinforce that belief, and Aurum is just fine with that.
