Ghost

Ghost

BACKGROUND
Ghost's grip on reality is tentative.  He knows that Ghost is not his real name, but is clueless what his real name might be.

It is unclear whether it was the seizure, or the storm that nearly killed him that night out on the tundras of Polo, but it was definitely the human doctor who saved his life. The Doctor. His life began with the Doctor or so it seems. Before waking up in the Doctor's Tundra Crawler that bright morning after the storm the Wraith called Ghost doesn't remember much. The Doctor said it was from the seizures; that it had altered the Wraith's mind and memory. Who the Wraith was before was now gone and only a lingering faded memory of hunting out on the tundra remained. The Doctor said that with medication the Wraith could live a healthy and productive life. At the time this sounded odd to the Wraith as he didn't know what either of those words meant, but he trusted the Doctor.

Looking back, the Doctor was the only one, Ghost ever really trusted.

For the next couple of months the Doctor and the Wraith travelled the barren Northern steppes of Polo, a place where even Wraith Raiders go infrequently, but the Doctor was well equipped and the trip comfortable. The Doctor taught the Wraith to speak Killian and read and write. Over those months the Doctor's research progressed and the Wraith helped the Doctor process the raw data from the experiments the Doctor performed on the small creatures the Wraith captured and brought back. The Doctor also took care of the Wraith, examining him daily and giving him shots and pills to treat his condition.

After a time, the Doctor's research was complete and their supplies were fading so they went South towards the equator and the more inhabited regions of the planet.  The Doctor left Polo shortly after that from the only major space port on Polo, Burning Fields.  Named for the process used to create the huge fused glass plates that formed the structural deck of the port, Burning Fields was a small city and the only large SLA outpost on Polo.  Before he left, the Doctor told the Wraith that one day, when the Wraith was old enough, he would come to work for SLA Industries. The Doctor told the Wraith that he would see to it.

The Doctor setup regular appointments for the Wraith to see the medical officer at Burning Fields. Once a month the Wraith would go to the officer, for an examination and to get his pills. Between visits the Wraith haunted the back corridors and out buildings of the space port. He hunted the storage buildings for the food shipped in for the Humans who ran the port.  He watched and studied as the humans went about their lives, fascinated by their culture and demeanor. Few who worked at the space port knew of him except by rumor.

Time passed.

One night, while Ghost was prowling the dark alleys of Burning Fields a man stepped out of the darkness. The man didn't even look towards the shadowed crevice where Ghost crouched, but the Dark Suit spoke anyway. In a voice pitched exactly to reach Ghost the Dark Suit said, "Good evening Ghost of the Burning Fields." A small smile crept onto the Dark Suit's face. "I would like to welcome you to SLA Industries. Your sponsor asked me to wish you luck at your classes at Meny. You leave tomorrow."

The tickets the Dark Suit left in the snow did take Ghost to Meny.

Ghost did well at Meny and later at Orange Crush though he had trouble with many of his Wraith classmates. Few liked Ghost's quite, passive ways.  Once the DNA Tattoos on the back of each of his hands was spotted by another Wraith, he quickly moved from disliked to hated.  He had never even thought of them as something unique to himself and knew nothing of their meaning till an angry argument with another Wraith when he was told that it marked him as an outcast, a defective and weak member of his race.  It took him some time to figure out that it was the seizures that were the source of their hatred.

Finally, graduation and then Mort. For the first time Ghost felt at home. For the first time he knew what the Doctor meant.

...

APPEARANCE AND BEHAVIOR
A little short for a Wraith, Ghost is still thin and lean like most of his kind.  His fur are shades of dirty gray with just a touch of the usual lavender most Wraith's exhibit warm weather. He usually wears a non-nondescript gray trench coat with a hood over his coolant suit. With his hood up, he passes fairly well for a human.

On the back of each of his hands is a DNA Tattoo of the Wraithen symbol for outcast.  It is given to those young who show some genetic defect and who are generally left out on the tundra to die at a young age.

Ghost is generally quite and unobtrusive but when he does speak he is charming and almost talkative for a Wraith.  He is curious, inquisitive and fits in surprisingly well around humans.  Despite this, he rarely speaks unless spoken too and tends to move to the edges of crowds and dark corners of rooms.  He has found that he learns more by listening than speaking.  He is often so quite and still that people forget he is there.

Despite his generally friendly demeanor, those who spend any significant time around him quickly realize that Ghost has little understanding of other's emotions and feelings.  In fact, he seems to not completely understand the difference between thoughts and reality and tends to take anything presented to him as real.

His homelessness doesn't bother him. He has never had a true home and wouldn't know what to do with it even if he did. Even at Meny he never slept in his dorm room. He has the uncanny ability to take short naps in any where or anytime. He never sleeps more than three or four hours at a time and often shorter. At night he tends to wander Uptown and Suberia, sleeping for an hour in bar, coffee shop, warehouse or other convenient location and then moving on to another place where he will take another nap. In this way, over the course of a day he gets enough sleep to feel rested, refreshed and alert.

Despite being on constant medication, he has to takes pills three times a day at very regular intervals, Ghost still suffers from black outs and seizures every couple of months. The black outs and seizures tend to come in clumps. He will be fine for a month or two and then have a series of episodes over the period of a few days to a week. One minute he will be going about his business and then the next he wakes up hours or even days later in another location. He won't remember what happened and infact often suffers from a total amensia and confusion for a few minutes or hours after awaking.

He keeps his FEN 603s in shoulder holsters; one stocked with STD ammo and the other with HEAP. His GASH Fist is hidden up the sleeve of his left hand coat.  He carries his swords on straps over his back or by even just carries them by hand.  He leaves his Body Blocker armour in his storage unit in Uptown unless he truly needs it.

NOTES
Medical: Epilepsy

Reputation: Considered weak and flawed by most wraiths and is shunned from Wraith society

Due to housing shortages, he was not given an apartment and was told he would get a voucher for a hotel but never received it. Instead he leases a small storage unit in an Uptown facility (10c a month) Has a gym membership where he works out and showers daily (20c a month).
