The Countess Theafana al-Malik was born on Stigmata as her parents helped fight the war against the Symbiots. After the Symbiots butchered her parents, the Brother Battle garrison found and raised her. Taking vows at an early age, Theafana grew up battling the Symbiots, winning many awards for valor.

When the Symbiots invaded southern Durem and attacked the garrison's outposts, Theafana was among those holding back the invasion to give the rest of the legion's forces time to build a fortified defense at the capitol city. When the outer battle fortresses finally fell to the Symbiots, she led the retreat back to Darmak and helped organize a defensive line around the city's central starport which the Symbiots found hard to breach. She now helps Master Claudius de Moley in leading the Brother Battle forces in defense of Stigmata's capitol against the Symbiot invasion.

Sister Theafana is a golden-skinned woman of Asiatic descent. Strikingly beautiful and proud, she is revered by her order for both her charismatic leadership and her compassion for those in need. She is wiry and athletic, and wears her dark brown hair loose about her shoulders. There is usually little al-Malik about her dress, which is typical Brother Battle. In the field, she wears a battered but effective ceramsteel suit of Brother Battle armor, inherited from a fallen comrade whose memory she honors still. She always carries her blade, Saint Cuthbert's sword, a blessed relic said to be imbued with theurgic power against Symbiots.
