Born into an old-money family with deep and widespread business interests, it would have been easy for Sean Remington to coast through life – but instead, he worked hard to deserve what he had been given. He studied biology and business at college, developing an interest in biomedical research and funding, which allowed him to start his own pharmaceuticals company. He hired the best people to do the actual work of drugs-finding and development, while he sourced investors and venture capital, and Remmedical Technologies was soon a prosperous start-up.

His relative independence and disinterest in the Remington fortune lead to some distance between him and his family, exacerbated when it was revealed that his father wasn't, in fact, his father: he was the product of an affair his mother had had with the gardener. These circumstances created in Sean a kind of standoffishness, a reluctance to become closely involved with others. He has numerous colleagues, but few close friends; he has never married, and remains on the'Most Eligible Bachelor lists of several magazines due to his good looks and wealth. For relief, he occasionally patronises the ladies of the Salon of Pleasures, but even his visits there have petered out in recent months.

Sean is 35, and in phenomenal shape for a businessman. He is 6'2”, fit and well-built, with a broad brow crowned by dark hair holding just a hint of curl; a strong, clean-cut jaw; expressive lips and dark, penetrating eyes. He prefers pale-coloured bespoke suits, and accessorises with expensive but tasteful cufflinks and watches.
