Ens. Rov Rawkin

Name: Rov Rawkin
Race: Betazed/Human
Age: 26

Physique: -

Rov, is like most Betazeds, human in appearance except for the expanded sheer black iris that is typical of his kind.  Unusually for an half-breed, Rov has got telephatic abilities, and always showed strong empathic abilities.  Some say these empathic abilities both spared him from abortion and cursed him to "understand" his enemy.
After the battle of Betazed (see below), Rov ended losing one half of his third finger on his right hand from a mining accident while in Cardassian work camps.

Personality: -

Rov is young, but forced to mature in his early years. His Betazed eyes add to the intimidation his accompanying face can supply.
He is the result of much hardship and shows little time for those that seem soft or weak. Although he may seem to despise the weak, he fights and suffers to protect them, as he would have appreciated that someone had once done that for him.

His knowledge of terror tactics derives from his own experience in using them against the Cardassians during the occupation war.

His loyalty is to his principles first, but he has been known for heroic acts of selfish bravery.

Rov can sometimes seem an outcast from society in the sense that emotions are what he "detects" in others, yet he finds it easier to mimic them than try and feel them.  He has become quite adept at this and it is only his inner nature that has protected him from scrutiny.
He is reluctant to have friends.  Like any soldier from a hard war he worries that friends end up dead around him.  He does have a friend in Star Fleet, a friendship born of the Berlin incident, Captain Hathaway.

Likes:

A well oiled military unit.
No complications.
Silence and insight.
Combat simulations on holodecks.

Dislikes:

Has a distinct hatred of JemHadar and Cardassians.
Hates crowds of people, preferring the solitude of his quarters, or the company of a single friend, despite not having many.

History: -

Rovs mother was the victim of a human corsair and criminal, who took her by force during a raid.  Feeling the new life inside her, his mother could not give the child up and fought past her hatred of her unwanted son to raise him, though she could never love him.
After discovering his mothers reason for feeling the way she did about him, Rov buried himself in Betazed culture to get as far away from his human side as possible. His human side however brought out negative tendencies unusual for Betazeds, anger, sadistic tendencies and the occasional attempted lies, which caused an internal conflict that he struggles to resolve to this day..
He hoped maybe one day his mother would love him.  A young Betazed maiden came into his life and understood him like no one else ever had.  They Married and their "promised" child was set.  Then, he deigned to join Star Fleet, partly in a vain attempt to make her proud.

As he was about to leave, disaster struck.  The Jem'Hadaar and their Cardassian allies arrived on his home planet. Watching the sheer terror and suffering inflicted during the occupation was hard.  He saw his menfolk die and the basic culture he had immersed himself in torn to shreds by "barbarians with cold hearts".
During the war, Rov formed a guerilla unit that was instrumental in the planet's revolution later during the war, using their races telepathic gifts offensively for the first time in Betazoid history.

During the occupation his mother was killed in a concentration camp for "singing propaganda".  Most of his family died during the initial bombardment and any friends he picked up who could have been called family died during the battles.  Most grievous of all, was the murder of his own wife Kelendra and his unborn daughter by the order of the Cardassian Gul Kal'tak in an attempt to bring him out of hiding.  Rov, to this day, pursues vengeance against that beast.

After the death of his wife, Rov went deeper into his darker nature, becoming known for his terror tactics and "no mercy" quality.  The Jem'Hadaar of the planet soon became the only soldiers that would willingly attempt to track him, as their Cardassian allies lost interest in losing more men and officers.

Once the war was over, Rov found himself unable to rejoin peaceful society.  The deeds he had done, the emotions he had tasted, and most of all, the loss of all his family in such brutal ways, tainted his soul.  He had become mostly unable to feel and became bitter about those who returned to a peaceful life so easily.

Returning to Star Fleet, Rov quickly found a place for his talents in the field of combat and unit tactics. During the "Berlin" incident, Rov was part of the security aboard the Federation Starship Berlin when it was attacked by "ronin" Cardasians. During the boarding action, Rov raised the siege on the bridge before leading an immediate counter attack onto the enemy ship.  However, his bloody ways made it impossible to get a "live" prisoner and although Rov was commended in close doors, his style of combat against Cardassians was rebuked in public. As soon as the damaged Berlin set up in a space dock for repairs, Rov was transferred away to the K10 facility.

Personal Trappings: Katar needle sword, taken from the library of armed history on Betazed.  He is still wondering whether to give it back.
