Riordeg is a second cousin of Prince Theoderic the Merovingian. He is not a member of the nobility himself, but his family are landowners, with a large holding (the hamlet of Girimacus, about 50 people) outside of Hiricio (a little forest crossroads village, no more than 300 people, located on the crossing of the Oise river).

He is 6 years younger than Theoderic (his birthday is June 22), but they look so alike they could be mistaken for brothers, although his hair is dark, while Theoderic's is blond.

One of Theoderic's troop commanders, Gellas, is lord of Hiricio and is also Riordeg's uncle.

He has been recently made a member of the Order of the Unicorn, and wears a blue cord with three loops as his badge of membership.
