Comstock

Background:
Dillon Amargosa was born in Indian Springs, Nevada and, soon after his mother brought him home, promptly dropped on the sandy floor.  It was an ill-omen, but no one in his family thought much of it except Dillon, whose oldest memory is still the taste of old dust and tailings.

Mining was in Dillon's blood, and anything boom in his life could turn to bust.  His great-grandfather had moved west and settled in Rhyolite during the boom years before that town disappeared.  His mother's family had moved to Nevada from Anaconda, Montana after their fortunes had dried up.  As a boy he took this all to heart but never learned to use his head.  He and his friends would go spelunking in closed up mine-shafts or screw around on ATVs instead of studying.  When he applied to the Air Force he was rejected for low test scores.  When he turned to the army, he served for four years in foreign deserts and came home ready for University only to get abhorrently drunk and receive an honorable discharge after his arrest.  UNLV politely informed him that his application had been wait-listed.

Mulling around, caught in a depression, Dillon took a road trip and swore off whiskey, hoping for a transformation.  He hiked Zion National Park, camped out a few nights in Arizona, and went spelunking like when he was a kid.  The old planks gave out under his feet, depositing him in a pool of arsenic and old water.  Dillon breathed in, tasted the tailings, and was reborn.

Back from the dead, Dillon found he could wrap himself in whatever metal he found handy, or even exude a second skin of old silver and copper.  Toxins do not bother him much either, though he's not sure where his limits lie and doesn't want to push them too far.  Hoping for another shot at life, he called up Project Utopia ... and then called the army to tell them what they were missing.

Description:
"Comstock" is about 5'10", with a shaved head that shows black stubble from time to time.  He's still lean and well-muscled, his physique growing more defined as his body accepts it's transformation.  He's darker skinned, part-hispanic somewhere in his ancestry, and tends to dress in durable, cheap clothes or old fatigues.

Under the surface the physical changes become more obvious.  The more agitated he gets, the more metallic his skin-tone becomes, until eventually Comstock gleams in bands of silver and copper.  Under the skin, the intrusion of mineral elements becomes more and more obvious.  He is unsuitable as a blood-donor for anyone who might have an averse reaction to mercury, for instance, and when researchers opened him up for a biopsy during a screening process they required a bone-saw and drill.  The transformation is replacing brain-tissue as well, making Dillon's brain difficult to interface with (represented by his psychic shield).  He can draw out some of this metal at will, shaping jagged claws for his hands and converting his body to more dense matter, but has not yet learned to tamper with material not native to his body.

Mentally, Dillon remains a relatively uneducated, irresponsible kid, but there is no telling what will remain of his brain and personality.  He can already understand basic calculus, see in the radioactive spectrum, and read the alphabet backwards from memory, feats he has never been able to accomplish before, and this newfound ability has given him a bit of confidence and curiosity.
