Komtri Silverswin

Komtri is of tan skin and dark hair, which she usually wears tied back into a simple ponytail or a conservative, yet somewhat fancy braid.  Her green eyes are known to only seem truly alight when she is mid-performance or spending time with her beloved comrades.  She wears fairly well made adventurer's garb underneath her finely crafted leather armor.  The blackjack hanging at her side and the crossbow hooked to her bandolier are both of the best craftsmanship.

Backstory:

Komtri as born to Kol Silverswin.  Her life was spent in the halls of power in the dwarven lands, though she never aspired to be a pampered pup.  While her father attended to court more often than not, her mother, Trunni Silverswin, saw to her education at home.  She was a hard-nosed woman who knew well that mistakes led to disgrace, and that too much had been prepared to just see it fall apart.  The only child learned well from her mother's teachings, but she was just wise enough to feel like she was missing something by just listening to mother.

The mother and daughter began to argue as she grew older, but Kol knew that all was not lost.  His daughter had an enthusiasm that made her want to see the world, and she could be trained to learn how to survive the worst it could throw at her.  He hired some tutors who would encourage her different interests, and she found her true love in music.   A plan hatched in the dwarf's mind, and he sent a message to an old friend...

After a particularly fierce argument with her mother, Komtri was approached by Captain Uli Rumsfire and invited to join the Gleaming Emeralds, an expeditionary force of the Royal Army.  The daughter accepted the position to spite her mother, and was put through her paces quite quickly.  Her Commanding Officer, the Captain herself, was careful to guide the young dwarf through the training without coddling her or leaving her twisting in the wind.  Accusations of favoritism were whispered, but Komtri met the standards for graduation from recruit training.  In the eyes of the law, none could speak against her appointment...

As a member of the Emeralds, Komtri worked much more as a morale booster or negotiator than a soldier.  However, she saw enough of battle and violence to learn that she found the idea of killing distasteful.  Even though she came to see her Captain as a second mother (and a far wiser woman than her birth mother),  she chose to return home when her tour of duty was up.  When she came home, she was thrown a wonderful party by her parents, a baby sister, several noble families, and a young suitor named Zomir Bronzetongue.  He was a charming young dwarf, to be sure, and she found herself smitten by him even as she realized that their parents were shoving them into this...

The wedding was a sight to behold, and she played the part that she was being forced into wonderfully.    Komtri Bronzetongue married a younger man with no prestige to please a family of greater honor and glory.  Effectively, she let herself be thrown away.  Her parents contacted her less and less, focusing on their political machinations and their new child as often as they could.  She wanted to do something about her fraying relationships with her family, but resentment started to bubble in her.

Her husband was appointed to Parliament not long after the marriage, and he quickly started paying less mind to her.  She was left to manage an estate, abandoned by everyone who had claimed to care about her...

It took a month for her to make up her mind, but she left early one dawn while her husband was attending to political affairs.  She arranged for several letters to be sent that day, declaring her intention to no longer honor their foolish marriage and to never return home.  Komtri Silverswin signed her maiden name on each and every one of them.  She ran into some members of the Gleaming Emeralds while they were out on patrol, but upon hearing her plight...they were quick to smuggle her out of the territory and furnish her with a horse and traveling gear.  The soldiers of the Expeditionary Force, after all, understood it was better to die free than live in captivity...

Weeks of traveling alone saw her beset by many troubles, but she lived free and enjoyed what of the world she could see.  In fact, one day, she just managed to hide from a bunch of rough looking fellows riding away.  When she rode ahead, hoping to put those folks as far behind her as possible, she found what looked like a pile of bloody rags in the road ahead.  Approaching carefully, she found a beaten young half-orc laying there.  Healing her wounds as best she could, Komtri tried to transport her to somewhere safe...but was attacked.

The half-orc woke up in the middle of the fight that ensued and tried to beat the living heck out of her attackers.  There were bruises and scars all over her, but she smiled even as they stood around the beaten and broken bodies of their attackers.  Komtri's new comrade only introduced herself as Thonka, and gave thanks for the salvation.  In return, she offered to show Komtri to a 'safe' and 'fun' place.   She ended up following the not-so-bright half-orc to a place she never expected to find, a cult of Desmoda.  The message of freedom resonated with her and empowered her.  Komtri knew, then, that she not just 'seeing the world' or 'looking for something'.  The very act of traveling was living...and there were a lot of experiences to have...
