Gunter Von Staffen HEX

Hi

Yeah I am the same guy from the Deadlands game. Small yet hollow world.

I was working on a character if you have an opening.

Gerhard Von Staffen

Born to a good Prussian family with a long tradition of military service Gunter was raised to be a soldier. Like most boys he was excited when the Great war began and hoped it would last long enough for him to enter the army and do his duty.

It was late in 1917 when he was finally able to serve and the exploits of his friend Balko brother, the Baron von Richthofen and others he volenteered for the Imperial Flying. But by then the glory days of Bloody April were gone and the Von Staffen found the war less glorious than he had imangined but did his duty. A skilled pilot he soon found himself assigned to the von Richthofen's Jagdgeschwader 1 known as the Flying Circus.

After months in the cockpit von Staffen was shocked when von Richthofen was killed. What was worse was that command soon fell to another top ace Hermann Goring. Goring although a skilled pilot was an arrogant ass, disliked by his men. For whatever reason Goring to a dislike to von Staffen and the young officer in good Prussian tradition made it clear the feeling was mutual. The emnity would play a large role in von Staffen's life. While the survivors of von Staffen's unit all remianed close comrades, Goring was an exception. His arrogance having left a bad taste in the mouth of his fellow flyers.

At war's end von Staffen like many Germans was bitter. But rather than wallow in defeat or go back to his soft life at home he found new ways to put his skills together. So van Staffen found himself joining various expedition acting as a pilot.

Always a good sailor, van Staffen soon became interested in airships as well. In the late twenties, von Staffen was recruited by the Zepplin Company's Hugo Eckener. Eckner had taken over control of the company after Zepillin's death. Over the next five years von Staffen served as a pilot aboard the Graf Zepplin, with flights that took him around the world and over the North Pole. Closely associated with Eckner, who was one of the Nazi's most out spoken opponents, and already out of favor with his old commander Goring like Eckner von Staffen was soon sidelined when the Nazi's gained power in 1933.
