Jun Kana Mar is perhaps the greatest academic scholar in an Order that has become more and more scholarly over the years.  An intellectual by nature, she had spent the past six years as the Chief Librarian and Scholar at the Jedi Academy on Yavin IV, keeping its vast records and regrowing the store of knowledge the Jedi lost when the Republic fell and the Jedi Order was all but destroyed at the behest of Emperor Palpatine.

Jun was one of Master Skywalker's first apprentices, having trained at the same time as Mattan Abirim and Leia Organa and several others when Luke was all that remained of the Jedi.  During that time she became very close to Mattan Abirim, and he called upon her aid almost a year ago when he and his Padawan, Aeryn Akura, discovered the location of a Sith artifact of great import.

In her capacity as Librarian and an instructor at the Academy, Jun Kana Mar has had a hand in training most of the younger members of the current Jedi Order, and she took on the training of several Padawan learners before and during her time at the Academy.  She is known as a stern teacher who expects nothing but the absolute best from her students, and many younglings failed to live up to her high expectations.  Those who earned her respect, however, found that her sometimes rigid instruction and severe manner resulted in their best performances in their young lives, and none would doubt her ability as a teacher and master.  Her outgoing Padawan, Lazarus, for example, thrived under her instruction and made a fine assistant librarian at the Academy until they left for Mashak.


Personality and Description

Jun Kana Mar is serious and conservative in outlook.  A consummate scholar, she is intellectually curious and extremely detail oriented.  She has an engaged, organized mind that sees the world very logically, and she is often two steps ahead of anyone else when it comes to working out problems or solving mysteries.  She is also a strict adherer to the Jedi Code, seeing it as the core of the Jedi philosophy and the Jedi's lone guide in a world beset on all sides by the temptations of the Dark Side of the Force.

A taller, statuesque woman in her mid-thirties, there is something dignified and regal about this slim and wise Jedi Master.  Like most in the Order, she keeps herself in exceptional physical shape despite her academic pursuits, and those who have spared with her know she is quite skilled with a lightsaber.  She can be quite demanding of others, and her voice is always strong and confident.  Were she ever to communicate uncertainty or without confidence, one would know there is definitely something very, very wrong.

Because of her severe and demanding personality, and the icy blue eyes through which she observes and learns, there are those who believe she is uncaring. This could not be less true, as all of her Padawan learners quickly discover, but she is stoic and does not wear her emotions on her sleeves.  Still, there is very little she cares about more than passing her intellectual curiosity on to her students and Padawans, and those who don't work their absolute hardest quickly earn her displeasure and her dismissal.  Only the best earn the right to learn from the Order's greatest scholar.
