Isabelle is a member of the caravan of survivors, joining them in Chapter 2, when the Caravan was trying to reach the Colony, a rumored safe haven. She is a former middle-school/highschool history teacher. She is complicated, has pluck and guile and tries to make the tough calls that those she cares about cannot. In this way she carries a burden for them in exchange for her companions doing much of the leg-work (pun intended).

She carries a hatchet as well as a policeman's glock for her weaponry.

Known affectionately as Izzy, her right leg below the knee was amputated via Civil War cavalry sword by Dominic, as he freed her from a bear trap as the undead were closing in, back in the forests of Tennessee in Chapter 3 (Fort Dixie plot).

In Chapter 4, she is on the mend, but not as independent as she once was.

Over Chapters 5 & 6 Izzy has grown close to the Caravan leader and the man that saved her life by severing her leg in Chapter 4. They are in a relationship now. Izzy has gotten used to her condition now, and seems to be in many ways stronger than before.
