Joyous Tenth Serf of Heaven is a Nexus businessman that has recently come to a position of influence and standing over the last several months. Utilizing a combination of generous financial backing, a keen sense for opportunity and timing, and all of the gaps in trade that the recent devastation of Nexus has created, Tenth Serf has managed to infiltrate most of the markets and industries of the city in one way or another and his holdings are one of the most commonly used 'go to' businesses when someone does not wish to deal with the other major market players such as the Guild.

The original name of Joyous Tenth Serf of Heaven was Auspicious Carp. Presumably, his mother wanted him to grow up to be the best fisherman in their village. Instead, Auspicious Carp ended up leaving for the much larger pond of Nexus and taking to it like his namesake to water. At some point between then and now, Auspicious Carp changed his name to Joyous Tenth Serf of Heaven. He claims that it was necessary for some business deal but will not go into the matter further. He also answers alternatively to 'Lucky' and 'Serf' depending on how well a person knows and likes him but in business matters he is always Joyous Tenth Serf of Heaven.

His operations do not have any real niche market. Quite the opposite, in fact. Carp is a conscientious dabbler who focuses on industry access and market coverage. He even has a token presence in slavery and other vices although those, like many other branches of his operations that he held little personal interest in, sometimes seem to only exists as a way of guaranteeing that there is always an alternative business in a market that might otherwise be a monopoly.

Aside from making his overall business empire reasonably resilient to the ups and downs that might ruin a more focused group (which has been particularly helpful given Nexus's recent history), some of the other candidates for the new council think that giving them competition is the primary reason that Joyous Tenth Serf of Heaven is nominating himself in the first place. If he had to be honest, they were probably right.
