The Basics

Name: Astra Altair

Nickname: Bright

Age: 800 Million give or take. Appears to be in her mid-twenties.

Species: Celestial Being aka Fallen Star.

The Appearance

Weight: 63 kg or 139 pounds

Height: 5 ft 9 in or 175 cm

Physical Description: There was a time when to describe Astra Altair, one might use words such as Bright, Brilliant and Beaming. She was a burning ball of light in the night sky that formed the neck of a great constellation known by mortals as 'The Eagle'. She had neither a physical form nor a true understanding of the concept of physical beauty. That was before she fell, however.

The moment that Astra left her seat in the Heavens, she became something else, something she didn't understand. For hundreds and thousands of years, she had watched Humanity grow and change but she had never thought that she might take their form? Why would she? Doing so would mean leaving behind her Home, her Family and everything she had ever known.

Astra is currently a beautiful woman, according to conventional standards. She possesses soft and milky skin that is as smooth and clean as that of a newborn. Her hair is the color of corn but shines like gold. truth be told, Astra's hair is one part of her physical appearance that at times, looks the most supernatural. This is due to the face that upon her fall, she was fostering several thousand infant stars. They are buried deep with her blonde tresses, clinging to the strands of her hair like specks of luminescent gold dust. While not visible to the naked eye as individuals, these infant stars as a whole give Astra a radiant glow as her hair reflects and refracts light, shimmering as she moves.

Her eyes are a galaxy of swirling shades of blue and flecks of gold. They are wide eyes, old eyes as they hold the many mysteries of the universes within. Astra has watched the world from its first breath of life to the modern age of industrial and capitalism it now enjoys. She is older than 99% of life on Earth and she has seen wonders and horrors that most people simply can't fathom. It is truly no surprise that people can so easily get lost in her eyes.

When it comes to her own personal style, Astra is bound by new laws. Never had she been forced to deal with things such dirt and sweat, wear and tear when she was a Star. The dress she was enrobed in as she fell is of unearthly design. It does not tear nor suffer from stains. It is Heavenly white with a deep scoop neck and a flared skirt. It is constructed from a material lighter than cotton and stronger than steel. It flatters her form, as feminine and voluptuous as it is and it truly highlights her beauty and grace but one dress does not a wardrobe make. Astra has been forced to adapt and expand.

During her short time on Earth, she has gathered together a collection of things she likes. Some of them are lovely dresses, while others are casual shirts and shorts. All of them seem to be apart of a greater color story however. Astra seems to always be wearing shades of the sky. From brilliant whites to touches of cream, she can transition into hues of blue both dark and light and then into tones of grays, silvers and midnight blacks. It is not uncommon for the color of her attire to be telling of her mood. The stormier in color, the darker her mood.

Distinguishing Features: For the most part, Astra appears like any other young fair skinned, blonde haired, blue eyed woman in her mid-twenties. It is really only when her she does something strange, like glow, that she is looked at any differently. When this happens, Astra is most definitely unique. While she has a Human form, she is still very much a Celestial Being. Not only can her hair at times reflect and refract light but when her heart is light, her entire body can produce a brilliant light that can grow in intensity to 11 times greater than the sun.

The Human

Personality: From her seat in the Heavens, Astra has watched the world turn and Humanity grow since the dawn of time. Her fellow Celestial Beings would describe her as curious and optimistic. Despite the countless atrocities she has witnessed at the hands of the Human Race, Astra remains hopeful that as a whole, they are good people, worthy of second chances.

Never would she have thought that she might actually live among them. Such a radical shift in her existence has left her somewhat shell-shocked and confused. Despite still being a very sweet soul, Astra experiences bouts of depression and grief where she will find herself standing in a clearing and gazingly longingly up into the midnight sky. She is out of her depth and way beyond her comfort zone. Astra lacks the understanding of everyday things making her rather awkward....

---------------------------------

Astra is a sweet soul. She has been watching the world since it began and she has delighted in seeing the human race grow. There is horror of course. The way that humans will so readily fight amongst themselves, killing for reasons that after the deed is done seem pitiful excuse for fear. During these times Astra has been known to turn her eyes away but she would like to believe and quite possibly does that the love and compassion humans are capable of make up for their violence. In this way Astra is hopeful but a little naive. She wants so badly to believe in the good in people that at times she can be fooled into ignoring the bad.

Astra is a romantic. She cannot count how many couples have rested beneath the great expanse of the sky staring up at her. Consumed with each other it has never crossed their minds that the very stars they embrace beneath have been staring back. As a star, she has never known love beyond the love she has for her family. It is one of the many things she hopes might find her one day. Of course, falling to Earth had never been part of the plan but now that she is here, she is hopeful.

All in all however Astra is torn. Her fall was unexpected and once she hit the earth she knew there was no way she could reclaim her place in the sky. She misses her family and her trillions upon trillions of brothers and sisters. The earth is a lonely place. Six billion people is nothing compared to those she left behind. In the heavens, stitched into the inky black of the night sky Astra had a home and a purpose. Here on Earth, she feels lost and alone. This feeling is made all the more difficult because there is a part of her that is excited. No more observing and watching others have the adventures. She is now capable of doing all the things that she has been envious of but at what cost?

Mundane Skills:

Occupation: Shining.

The Not So Human

Species Description: Astra is a Fallen Star. She was once apart of the Family of Aquila and formed the neck of the constellation Humans know as The Eagle. Since her fall, this space is empty.

Powers and Abilities: Astra had many powers when she was a star. Shining with a luminosity 11 times greater than the sun was easily the most impressive of these abilities. Astra can no longer shine with the same blinding intensity as she once did. It is a well-known fact, to stars at least that a star cannot shine with a broken heart and Astra's heart is broken. She misses her family and longs to be back in the unfathomable majesty of the night sky. Her heart still contains starlight but misery and sadness will quickly drain it. Without starlight, Astra is but a shadow of her former self. The dimmer her light, the weaker her magic.

Astra still possesses a number of powers. She is immortal for one and will never age. Well, not never but not at any kind of pace that is visible to, well anyone really. Astra was breathed into existence over 800 Million years ago and she is barely halfway through her life so one day she will burn out and it will come her time to retire but that day is nowhere near soon.

The power of Stardust is also at Astra's control. She breathes it from her lungs into a mouldable, controllable force. It offers her protection in the form of an aura and it also heals her should she be injured. It is, in fact, the very element of which she is constructed so healing a wound with it is rather simple. Astra's dust can be used for both offensive and defensive purposes though honestly, she is not much of a fighter. Stars have little use for violence and so she is unlikely to fight even when provoked. More than likely she will simply cloak herself in stardust and either dissipate from one place to another or use her dust as a protective force field if threatened.

Sadly it would not be uncommon for Astra to be threatened. A Fallen Star is quite the rare and coveted commodity. Those with darkness in their hearts and ill will know that the heart of a star is a precious thing. If cut from her chest it can do great and powerful things. No good would ever come from this though. To slaughter, a star for its heart is a terrible thing to do. Dark magic is the only outcome.

The power of Astra’s Stardust is not just limited to herself. Good can come from the use of Stardust on others. The most common effect is luck.

The Story

Character Background: Astra along with many of her brothers and sisters was breathed into existence around 800 million years ago. She has watched the world form and grow to become what it is today. Nobody ever thought that the Stars up above where more than just masses of gas. Of course, the people that occupy the earth have been a little too busy evolving to notice much of anything beyond their own small world. They have only very recently begun to look up with wonder and curiosity.

A very wise man once told Astra that the universe is big, it's vast and complicated and sometimes just a little ridiculous. Even in her seat in the heavens, she would never see it all. If she truly wanted to learn it was best to focus. "Look down." He told her. "See those people down there? They live their lives day after day after day and most of the time it's mundane and boring but sometimes, very rarely something impossible will happen and they call it a miracle. That's what you need to watch for, because it's in those moments that humanity shines."

Astra has been following his advice ever since. She watches humanity with wonder and yes, with a little envy because she sees the magic in it all and she wants to experience it too. Her fall was not something she chose to do however. She was not hit or pushed. It was not some cosmic plot against her or some grand scheme. Astra spins at a rate far quicker than most other stars around her. The Earths sun, for example, takes a full 25 days to make one rotation. Astra does the same thing in less than 9 hours. She is one of the closest stars to Earth and the 12th brightest in the night sky. So why did she fall? Well, after 800 Million years of spinning on the spot, you'd get dizzy too.
