RACE:  The Aether

HOMEWORLD:  The planet of Ion is a tiny planet in a decaying orbit around its star. Its atmosphere has long since been turned into a massive storm of burning gas, rendering life on the planet impossible. The Aether escaped extinction by ascending into beings of pure energy, and now seek to leave their world behind entirely, its usefulness outlived.

RACIAL DESCRIPTION:  The Aether are beings of pure energy, and appear as colored points of light. General members of the race glow white, while those who have been given specific knowledge and roles will glow different colors.

RACIAL DEMEANOR:  The Aether are peaceful, and mostly disinterested in the matters of other races. They have left behind material needs, war, and many things normal life takes for granted.

RACES HISTORY:  The Aether used to be carbon-based life, fairly humanoid. They developed much like any other race, with their share of wars and suffering. Eventually, however, they achieved worldwide peace and focused on enlightenment and culture. Eventually they ascended into being of energy, and now spend their time in contemplation of the universe, and a desire to ascend even higher, leaving the current plane of existence entirely. They have spent so long in this pursuit that they barely noticed when their planet's orbit began to decay into its sun. Now it is too late for them to stop it, and they seek to begin a great Pilgrimage in search of knowledge and the secret of further ascension.

YOUR RACES LEADER:  The Aether do not have a leader, having a collective consciousness. Individuals are not the norm, but a deviation. Any knowledge they discover is instantly known by every Aether, but they can only keep so much knowledge available for contemplation at one time, so much of it is stored away, forgotten until it is unsealed. They are capable of splitting off an Aether with specialized knowledge the main consciousness does not wish to deal with, and it is possible they will do so to create a leader, but for now, they have none.
