Blythe of Portage

Blythe wasn’t an especially attractive girl, but she was a hard worker and was also available, unlike some of the more stuck up girls looking for a wealthy husband. Most of the men weren’t excited about marrying a girl who had experience with many of the other young men but they were quick to ask her for a walk in the woods. So Blythe had a reputation.
She was hunting for smooth rock for her sling when Fergus came over the hill and walked her way. he was an older man, late 30s who had been twice divorced, but Blythe saw no reason to fear a man from her own tribe. he horse he was leading was looking a bit poorly care for, and when he came close she eyed the animal and commented that it needed some care. Fergus looked at the horse and shrugged,” it’l survive, how about we enjoy each other’s company.”
Blythe had no interest, “NO, Not happening here or now”.
Fergus looked at her and stepped toward her asking “and why not? i can do all the boys and and teach you a few things I bet.”
Blythe  didn’t feel any interest, so reached for her bag of stones to leave, Fergus  was not about to be denied by this little strumpet and lunged forward grabbing her Long knife in the scabbard with his right hand and her right arm in his left “I think you’ll not refuse me, woman.”
Blythe was startled and frightened, But not to inactivity at all, in act he Opposite, she didn’t struggle for her knife as Fergus was undeniably stronger, instead, she did as her mother and aunts had taught her and shoved the fingers of her left hand into his eyes gouging them out while her thumb tore out the left nostril on his nose, Her right knee slammed into his family jewels and Fergus suddenly experienced extreme pain unlike anything he had before and he couldn’t see.  “Bitch, I’ll kill yee fer this…” he grunted. And her tried to twist her arm , but Blythe dropped her left hand and pulled Fegus’ knife slicing him across the stomach as she pulled it from it’s sheathe, it wasn’t a deep wound but was almost a span long … Fergus pulled away from her which let her get the point up and shove it up under his chin hard.  Fergus went limp and collapsed, pulling Blythe off balance, but she rolled away and came up fighting, but Fergus was no more.  She cleaned her self in the stream, picked up her things and approached the horse, which was rather skittish,  A couple of carrots from her lunch and half an apple and she had the horses lead. She led it to the water to drink, then tied it to a low bush and searched Fergus, taking his coin and his things except for the blade stuck into his head. She’d just keep hers.  His spear and tent would be good but his sleeping things were foul. She emptied all his clothing and sleeping gear onto the ground. She filled the water skins and thought how she would explain this.
It dawned on her that a killing would require a blood price, likely to his son.  Her family could never afford  that. She had to leave him and she had to leave the tribe.  She led the Horse around to her an area behind her family Round house and hid it out of sight where it could graze a little; then she went into the round house and told her mother what had happened and that she had to leave so nothing could be proven. Her mother quickly helped her gather her things and carry them to the horse. along with what food they could spare and a few things to call on the Goddesses help. Shortly after midday she headed off toward the southwest, looking to avoid the tribesmen and headed out on her adventure.
