Character Name: John 'Tiny' Amboy
Place of Birth: London, England

Tiny enlisted in the Royal Marines as a short-serviceman, serving in the Royal Marine Brigade. His six week basic training was at Plymouth (Stonehouse Barracks) in 1914.

He embarked with the Plymouth Battalion Royal Marine Light Infantry for the Dardanelles in June of 1915 and served continuously throughout the Gallipoli Campaign. He was wounded and was sent back to England to recover.

After recovery he fought in three battles before his last posting in Passchendaele until the Armistice.

After the Great War, Tiny works as a longshoreman around the city, frequently working at the Limehouse Docks. While having a beer at a dockside pub a week ago, he ended up talking with a drunken Norwegian captain of a ship called the Ivory Wind by the name of Lars Torvak. He told John about a profitable side business he was doing - shipping some weird stuff to Shanghai, the home port of his ship. He talked about weird statuettes and other trinkets, and some oddly crafted valves, struts, strange hand-wired electrical boards, and monstrously large radio tubes. Lars confessed that he was worried about who he was working for, because he'd smelled what he could swear was gunpowder near the man's warehouse, and didn't know what the fella was up to.

Curious, and a bit worried, John checked out the warehouse when he thought nobody was there. In there, he found multiple violations which, if brought to the police, would quickly shut down the operation. There were guns, explosives, drugs, and some of the strange statuettes (a bloated woman with Asiatic features, a tall black figurine of Egyptian looks, a strange large bat statuette, etc.) and truly disturbing art as well. Before he could do much more, he was knocked out from behind. He woke up bound on a truck, driving through the countryside. He was taken into a large and very fine country manor, and escorted into the basement through a secret entrance by a fireplace. There, he was put into a cell with three others. On the final night of his captivity, he was joined by a fifth, an American man named Thomas Cotton.

They were occasionally tortured by a well dressed man, though it was more of a mental torture than a physical one. He would summon strange and horrible creatures, and threaten to have them fed to it. On the night of the ceremony, he selected one of them by chance, and fed it to a creature that he summoned into the room in front of them, something that he called a Star Vampire. As the invisible creature fed upon the other man, it filled up with his blood, becoming a crimson colored thing. Not to worry, he promised them. They shouldn't feel bad, as they had the honor of feeding the Shantak.

Stripping them naked, the gentleman wore strange robes that night, and lead them out into the cold night, shackling them to a large stone column. After a wait, during which he ranted and raved about people who didn't show up, he summoned a great flying beast that was horrifying to look upon. That was when the police showed up, engaged the fancy man, who Cotton had called Gavigan, and his servants, but he was only partially conscious during these events, too scarred from the experiences during his captivity.
