A local of the people known as the "Whale Worshippers", although this is an outsider term for them. They call themselves "Fishers" as their primary activity is offshore fishing and hunting of marine mammals, as well as whaling. Lear is from a settlement in the San Juan Islands that began as a community of natives, hippies, artists and farmers that banded together for survival after the Great War.

Many Fishers/Whale Worshippers are actually Christian but are of a variety that shows great respect and reverence for the ocean and sea life, especially whales, as their economic and social lives revolve around these elements. Leaf herself is a de facto representative of a distinctly Pagain take on their lifestyle. She is held in considerable regard by the younger members of her people and as such also has considerable influence over the elders.

Currently, Leaf is acting as a guide and translator for a Morrow Project team that has been assigned to investigate the "War Whale" (a submarine beached inside a dry seaside cavern) that she discovered some time earlier. She believes this site to be of religious and cultural significance to her people and would prefer it to remain untouched by outsiders, but recognises there could be danger present. As she is planning a ceremony during the next full moon in a couple weeks time to bless the coming spring whale hunt she has agreed to let a team of Morrow Project experts examine the site to determine if it is contaminated or safe.

Leaf normally dresses in comfortable outdoors clothing (mainly wools) with considerable rain gear. Her main possessions are a kayak, harpoon and bow.
