Name: Bernice "Benny" Summerfield

Appearance: Doctor Bernice Summerfield appears to be a human woman in her mid to late thirties. Her hair is black, her features rather strong and masculine, and her build fairly solid. All of her physical traits come from a life that has been heavy on her. She's worked hard, played harder, and spent as much time running as she has fighting.

Her voice is fairly cosmopolitan, as she has traveled much, and it is educated. However, a note of cynical derision tends to stay there as an almost permanent feature. Consequently she tends to come over as sarcastic, or abrasive, unless she consciously attempts to avoid doing so.

Her outfits vary from whatever culture she is in to the next. She prefers hard-wearing clothes, however. Clothes that allow her to fit in. Clothes that allow her to run away with considerable speed ...


Strengths: Benny has an excellent brain. Although she is a professor of archaeology (with both faked and real qualifications) she has a very good grasp of most sciences, and a highly analytical mind. She's no match for the Doctor, and she would definitely have to work very hard to keep up with anyone like Zoe or Liz Shaw, when it comes to theoretical science. But for hands on, muck up to the elbows, build me a bomb and make it out of meringues, she knows her stuff.

She also knows how to fight if she has to. But most of all, she knows when to fight. If pressed, she would say her best skill was knowing precisely when to run the bloody hell away with maximum possible alacrity. She doesn't worry about how it makes her look. There's no point being brave if you are too dead to enjoy it.




Weaknesses: Even her close friends say that Benny enjoys a drink. In fact, they are lying. She enjoys a great many drinks, and usually in considerable numbers. I mean, she was once worshiped as a deity of inebriation. That should probably give a clue of how she can be when she is left to her own devices.

She's also lazy, and tries to arrange to do work that requires the minimum amount of effort.

Despite the above, she usually ends up sober, saving the day, and working flat out to do so. She has never quite sussed this out, but suspects that it has something to do with the universe having a warped sense of humour.


Fears: Her only major fear is that her son might be hurt. Or that he loses control and becomes some form of monster. A half breed with claws and fangs, and cross-bred with a rather violent race, he has already shown violent tendencies. It worries her, a lot.

She also fears that she might get caught by Irving Braxiatel, and he might be very, very disappointed in her. Probably for quite some time. With a variety of painful instruments.

Timeline: Benny was born in 2540 on the Earth colony of Beta Caprisis. She met the Doctor when she was thirty. Her home was ravaged by the daleks, and she has encountered a great many alien races, both benevolent and otherwise.

Her current timeline in game falls after The Wake and before Beyond the Sea in the New Adventures audio series. On the run from Irving Braxiatel, trying to keep her son Peter safe despite his decidedly homicidal tendencies, she has more than enough on her hands without the universe giving her even more problems to deal with!
