Jacob Williams

Jacob Lawrence Williams is the oldest child and only son of Thomas and Patricia Williams of Bossier City, Louisiana.  His sisters are Elizabeth (22) and Janice (15).  Elizabeth is a senior studying Pre-Veterinary Medicine at Louisiana Tech University while Janice attends high school at Airline High School.

Growing up, Jacob had a fairly typical life for a young man from North Louisiana.  He spent many summers on his grandparents' farm (James and Rita Haynes) near Oak Grove, Louisiana.  Jacob was very close with his grandfather (whom he referred to as "Pawpaw"), spending countless hours listening to his stories about training soldiers in amphibious operations in England before D-Day, how he met Rita at Stonehenge, and how his detachment aboard the U.S.S. Texas was ordered to stand down instead of coming to the aid of the Army's paratroopers.  It was during these summers than Jacob decided that he wanted to be One of the Few...

Jacob bulked up a lot in his freshman and sophomore years of high school and earned the nickname "Brick" while playing center on Airline High School's football team.  Jacob signed his enlistment papers midway through his senior year and left for Parris Island a few days after his graduation.  13 weeks later, he was a leatherneck on his way to his first posting at Naval Base Kitsap in Washington state when he received terrible news.  The pilot light on the water heater at his grandparents' house had gone out while they were asleep one night and when the coffee pot turned on in the morning, it shorted and ignited the gas, destroying their home.  The coroner's report stated that they had died in their sleep from carbon monoxide poisoning several hours before the explosion.  The only thing of theirs to survive the fireball was James' motorcycle, a 1949 Vincent Black Shadow he had bought while working as a milkman in Sheffield after the war.

After the funeral, Jacob returned to Kitsap with the bike and began to dutifully restore it, obsessively pouring his free time, money, and soul into it.  While working on the bike, Jacob could almost forget that Pawpaw was gone and could almost hear Mawmaw's infectious laughter again.

One weekend while on liberty, Jacob ventured out to a local watering hole.  As he sat there, nursing his beer and minding his own business, a drunk logger and his buddies started in on a pretty (if somewhat earthy) blonde.  Of course, Jacob tried to get them to calm down and leave her alone, which they were, of course, unwilling to do.  As one can imagine, a fight ensued, Jacob beat the stuffing out of the lead drunk only to get blindsided by his buddy and a barstool.  So of course the fight turned into a full on barroom brawl as many of the men from Jacob's unit were in the same bar.  Pretty much everyone got hauled in, shore patrol was called, and Jacob and his friends spent the night in the brig.  But on the plus side, the hippie girl wrote her name and number down on Jacob's massive pecs before the cops hauled everyone away.

Jacob and Krystal had a whirlwind romance that ended up with the two of them married in 6 short months.  Unfortunately, the relief effort in Somalia went south and Jacob was deployed with the Fighting 13th in February of 1996.  A week after Jacob deployed, Krystal wrote him that she was pregnant...

Not all of that time was combat deployments, much of it was training junior marines and additional training for himself.  His being gone wasn't really what bothered Krystal, it was the fact that 2 of his deployments were voluntary.  It was that she never knew if the ringing phone was another of the wives on base calling to gossip or if it was "the call."  Krystal nearly went mad, expecting to hear that Jacob wouldn't be coming home because of some Arab with an AK or because some dumbass junior marine wouldn't listen.  Finally, when Jacob was home again, she threw down the gauntlet.  Either he wouldn't reenlist when his time came or they were through.  Jacob chose his family.  They moved back to Bossier where his sister's brother-in-law helped him get a job with Bossier PD.  It was fine with Krystal until they offered him SWAT training and he accepted it (for the higher pay to pay for little James' college).  She stuck it out for a while but they separated after one of his men was nearly killed in a training accident.

During the separation, Jacob and Krystal tried counseling, but the problem was that Jacob's sense of duty was too strong for him to give in to Krystal's fears about "the call."  During their separation, Jacob had his first run in with the occult world.

Ralph McKenzie, the veteran cop that Jacob was paired with when he first joined the force 2 years ago, was retiring.  Quite a lot of the SWAT candidates and patrolmen were present at Bilbo Baggins that night (they decided to have the party there to rib McKenzie about how many times his twin brother Ronnie drug him to the Lord of the Rings films).  Jacob decided to step outside at about 11:30 to get some fresh air and call Krystal (because it seemed like such a great idea after 3 shots and a few beers) when he heard a woman screaming in panic and terror.  He rushed in the direction of the commotion and found what he thought was a woman being assaulted by a large black man.  He pulled his gun and yelled at the attacker to stand down, instead, the attacker turned towards Jacob.  Even slightly drunk, Jacob could tell that this was definitely NOT a human being, humans don't look like bats with fangs and flaccid stomachs.  When the vampire started towards him, Jacob fired two shots at its center of mass.  The vampire staggered back a couple of steps, turned, and ran away.  Jacob checked on the victim and called in the assault.  And then his real trouble began...

Jacob gave his statement literally fifteen different times and his story never changed.  He reported exactly what had happened, that he arrived on the scene of a possible sexual assault, identified himself as Bossier City Police and ordered the assailant to stand down.  When the assailant failed to do so and approached him in an aggressive manner, he opened fire, striking the suspect twice in the chest.  The suspect then fled the scene, leaping to the top of a nearby building and disappearing.  Jacob gave an accurate description of what he saw, describing the grotesque creature in as much detail as he could.

All sorts of rumors started flying; Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, alcohol abuse, problems at home, etc.  Internal Affairs performed its own investigation and even after Jacob passed no less than 3 psychiatric evaluations that proved him fit for duty, he was still placed on administrative leave.  He thought about changing his story many times but he always remembered what Pawpaw had told him:  "Anyone can tell the truth when it benefits them, only a real man with real integrity tells the truth the rest of the time."  Besides, at this point, any hopes he had for a career with Bossier PD were gone, he'd be lucky if they let him guard a school crosswalk.

After about the second week of his leave, he was approached by an older Russian man who asked to hear his story one more time.  To Jacob's astonishment, the Russian believed him and then told him about the taskforce he had been assigned to with Interpol before asking if Jacob would like a job.  Faced with no other real career paths open to him, Jacob accepted and moved to Glasgow, Scotland to begin working with Cloud, Interpol's taskforce for investigating the occult and paranormal.

Jacob is 6'2", 240 lbs. of pure muscle.  He has an Eagle, Globe, and Anchor (the insignia of the USMC) with "Semper Fidelis" tattooed on his hulking right bicep.  Over his heart he has a tattoo of a WWII-era marine riding a motorcycle with a chastely beautiful angel riding behind him with "Gone but not Forgotten" and "1924-1997."  On the inside of his left bicep, he has a lacy heart with "Krystal" inside of it.

Jacob keeps the regulation "high and tight" jarhead haircut and generally wears jeans and a tight-fitting t-shirt with a pair of his old combat boots unless the occasion demands more formal attire.  Then he either breaks out his suit or his dress blues (whichever is more appropriate to the occasion).  Even though he's technically divorced, Jacob still wears his wedding band, a simple, unadorned, titanium ring.
