Jack Solomon is a man of contradictions; he is serious and dedicated to his work, but has a playful side that can come out at times.  He comes from a family who were mostly hippies, but presents as a man in touch with his Irish heritage and who follows Catholic traditions.  He was a football and wrestling jock in high school but seems to have evolved into a more cerebral sort as adulthood has taken hold of him.  He's been a senior detective in his department for years, but seems youthful, if only in demeanor: Jack is young at heart, when his heart lets him be.

Jack comes from a family with a history as officers of the law.  His grandfather and great grandfather were both policemen.

Jack keeps himself in shape by riding his bike and swimming, as well as spending time at a local boxing gym that his grandfather had introduced him to, one that the older man had himself used during his career.  It was an old place that carried the lingering smell of cigar smoke and sweat, but it works for Donovan just the same as it worked for his grandfather, a man whom he much admired.  He's a bit old school, never got into MMA or any kind of serious martial arts training, just boxing and what he learned at the Academy.  It's served him well enough to date, however, and he's clever enough to work through things without letting the situation develop into conflict whenever possible.

Solomon volunteers for the crisis team as a negotiator, his easy demeanor and relaxed approach translating well, even if he doesn't joke and prod the way he does with his partner when he works in that capacity.


Before joining the Force, he was actually a violinist: the youngest concertmaster in the history of the TSO.  He held the post for a decade before events conspired to change his career path.
