Appearance and Demeanor:
Joshua used to be very military and while he still maintains an active lifestyle - he is not so driven as to maintain a 3% body fat physique. Or, to be actively athletically competitive. This doesn't mean he isn't committed to the lifestyle. He likes to socially drink which means he maintains a regimen of strength and speed, consistently challenging himself to conquer new hurdles.

His hair is, at best, finger combed and often wind swept being just long enough to be just a little messy. His beard, never quite full, is just a bit longer than stubble. While the color is more brown than dirty blond, has more 'salt' than it used to, he subject he tends to laugh about. On the younger side of thirty but his smile and less than uptight demeanor makes him look a bit impish. Still, if you get close enough, you can see a glint in his eyes hinting at something dark - the haunted echo of some one who has made hard decisions.

Not a small man at about 6'3, and 230 - he'll try to appear less threatening toward his allies. Even if he doesn't always succeed. Always slouching ...just a bit; one moment hunched over a book; the next leaning on a post; this time sitting with his face propped on his elbows; the next moment squatting over a work bag, always moving just enough to never be seen standing to his full height. Its as if he's uncomfortable with his own physical presence, acting ... not overtly aggressive. His trained athleticism suggests could have been a successful footballer, though he doesn't appear have the natural hyper-aggression common to that sort. Joshua will defer all leadership choices to anyone who wants it ...until it becomes obvious that team efficiency or mission parameters are under threat.

His clothes are on the hardy utilitarian side. They are still pressed and clean, but his elbows have seen wear, his cuffs look like he takes the time to roll them up before getting his hands dirty. His nails are trim but his hands are scarred and his knuckles are wide. A man who is plainly used to using his hands and getting them dirty and stained - be it from blood or motor oil.

Joshua may own a tailored suit but will likely only be worn under extreme duress. Personality
Joshua's underlying temperament is of someone who has recently suffered a loss of a dearly desired goal. Beyond merely some material desire this is a mental woe which has caused him to re-evaluate his future aspirations. His overt attitude is surprisingly up beat, he is cheerful, social, confident and a bit sardonic - definitely an extrovert. Although not truly a cynic - his wit is usually focused on the next unnamed disaster and is intensely curious abut how it will be narrowly avoided 'this time'. Gregarious and oddly optimistic, he earnestly believes that all of life is just one glorious adventuresome step away tragedy. Typically inclined to participate in a multiplicity of social events at once.

Joshua wants to be that hero that shifts the narrative from being a tragedy into a drama or a comedy - his choice is to help other people be better people. While Joshua is not an overly spiritual person - he does believe that by being an example of what is possible through teamwork he can inspire others. Beyond teamwork, his opinions can be strikingly different from the  status quo... thus he is not the posterboy for the army.

Educated in a number of serious fields of study from battlefield surgery, to microbiology, and history; to the whimsical - like theatrical swordplay.
