Simon Craddock was born and raised in South Devon, where his father is a minor landowner. He was a career Marine until he turned 40, when he switched careers completely and trained to be a primary school teacher. Although he loved his new life, he missed the old one and served in the local TA unit. In the Marines, his specialty was as a sniper.
