Lieutenant Eddie Whistler is a former British Commando who didn't find life after the army to be fulfilling. He decided to use his skills in an environment where he had a little more control.

He put out feelers and gradually recruited a platoon of mercenary fighters who spent time in the Middle East, in Africa, and in former Soviet territory before returning home when the Plague hit.

Whistler found himself employed by the British Government again, albeit on a more open remit than before, and his platoon (officially The Marauders, but some joker had tagged them the Whistleblowers, and it sort of stuck, even amongst the team) had helped to clear the Isles of Scilly of Infection.

That venture had cost them half their platoon, and they were en-route to London to try to recruit more men when their light aircraft was shot down over Southampton Airport and their pilot killed.

Now, Whistler had to get his Platoon to safety.
