  History: born into an old gentry family as the elder son and inherited the family's respectable estates; educated at Eton and Oxford  but did not seek Honours degree; has served as a J.P. and major in the county militia, but chiefly devoted to his estates. M.P. for the county, a reliable supporter of the government on the backbenches who rarely speaks in the House.
  Hobbies: prefers to walk or ride about the local countryside, or read in his well-stocked library; hunts with the local pack and plays cards and dice for society's sake but not a reckless gambler. Fences and practices pistol shooting. Follows the Fancy but does not box himself. Enjoys the company of young people and attends dances and other gatherings.
