Clay Taylor

Clay is a stocky, solidly-built (210lbs – 5’11”) left handed young man (early twenties) who’s skin is tanned from its exposure to the elements, with dark hair and grey, blue eyes. He usually wears dark colored clothes; black low-crowned, wide-brimmed hat, dark blue shirt, red bandanna, black levis, boots and gun-belt. Clay has a heavy modeled Colt pistol holstered butt-forward on his right side and a large knife sheathed on the left. Clay favors the knife over the pistol, however his preferred weapon, is his model ‘73 rifle. He rides a big steel grey horse and at present leads a pair of palomino pack horses of equal size.

Clay’s father was a trapper who also rounded up and broke wild horse before his death and although being a white man was somewhat befriended and lived alongside a band of Comanche.  Clay’s mother died when he was an infant, so was raised by his father and from an early age could be found hunting and chasing wild horses with him. During the war they both did a little scouting for the Texas Cavalry as civilians.  Clay set out on his own shortly after his father’s death around the end of the civil war.  He continued breaking wild horses mostly, with an old friend, the pair also successfully ran a number of trap lines for a few seasons.    Clay is not overly fond of towns and prefers to be out in the open country.

Clay has recently bought the deed to a rundown ranch 25 odd miles north of town, from the current owner in the east, who has lost interest in the property.  The land is boarded by a river on both the north and east boundary and the mountains to the west.  He intends to run horses and cattle on the property.  He has stopped in town for supplies and to spend the night before heading out to the ranch to meet the old timer who is looking after the place and check out what sort of condition the property is in.
