Denholm Hawkesbury

Denholm Agravain Saebroc Hawkesbury
a.k.a. "Dash"

Age: 25
Appearance:
Tall and trim, with light brown hair that he usually keeps cropped short.  Bright blue eyes over a face that usually carried several days worth of stubble.  While he is quite familiar with formal wear, his preferred mode of dress is light colored work clothes. He often wears a rumpled white cotton shirt over tan trousers, with a butternut-colored sackcloth jacket -- topped by an age-worn white "crusher" peaked officers cap ("crusher" means the stiff wire ring has been removed, so the cap can be "crushed" into a pocket) with black patent leather band an bill.  In inclement weather, a calf-length khaki-colored greatcoat from Burberrys of London (this style would eventually come to be known as a "trenchcoat") is worn over everything.  When trouble is on the horizon, Dash wears a leather shoulder holster in which he keeps a modified, short-barreled C96 "broomhandled" Mauser automatic pistol.

BACKGROUND/HISTORY
Dash was born a Hawkesbury of Nantucket, a great New England trading family. Dash is the second son of Willem Isdernus Sullivan Hawkesbury, who is in turn a second son.  The Family Patriarch is Dash's elderly eighty-year old Uncle, Lockewood Accalon Salisbury Hawkesbury.  As such, he has eight people between himself and the top spot in the family/company.  This provided him with some limited freedom in his life.  While he was raised within the familiy company, with the intent that one day he would join it, he was able to talk his way into attending the somewhat "new" (30-or-so years old) Massachusetts Institute of Technology, rather than the older and more traditional Boston College.  His choice to join the Army in Cuba, after his graduation, was not well met by most of his family, 'though his father did point out that Dash might make contacts in the Army that could be turned to profitable oportunity.

PERSONALITY
Denholm Agravain Saebroc Hawkesbury; “Dash” to his friends. Adventurous and a risk taker, daring and smart, Dash has an analytical way of thinking, although he may seem to react impulsively; he always comes up with clever and quick witted solutions for problems. Dash’s friendly intelligence and warm charm give him a seductive quality that makes him extremely good at getting what he wants, in both trade and society.

MOTIVATION
Dash is fascinated by the concept of “what’s new?” What’s over the next mountain? What new development is coming out of the lab? What can be found across that ocean? What new theory is a scientist working on? This generates a sense of adventure, wanderlust to go see these new things.

For a while, when he was younger, Dash also felt the tug of martial Glory, and talked his way into a commission with the 1st US Volunteer Cavalry, and fought in Cuba under the command of Teddy Rooseveldt.  This experience disenchanted him of all ideals of “guts and glory” when it comes to war.  He found that War was nothing more than mud, blood, and death.
