Background: Eric was born on August 4, 1991 in Bowie, Arizona to Henry and Marie Brooks.  His father was German while his mother was an Italian American.  He grew up the oldest of three children, his brother Shawn and sister Rachel.  His father was a Master Sergeant in the army while his mother was the mayor's secretary.  He grew up wanting for little aside from more attention from his parents due to time constraints and being the middle child.
By the time he graduated high school he was among the top of his class and was in line to go to school for computer advanced drafting.  However during his senior year his father came down with inoperable brain cancer and while he was laying on his death bed Eric vowed to take up his legacy and join the army.  The Monday after he graduated he enlisted in the armed forces, though he was persuaded to join the air force by his then girlfriend who was also enlisting.
While they were in training they talked off their future and the possibility of marriage, however during a flight training mission a malfunction brought his girlfriend's plane down and the incident drove her to leave the air force.  Eric stuck with the air force and soon found himself rising slowly through the ranks to Major and was contemplating quitting the Air Force to try to settle down to a normal life however he was approached with a once in a life opportunity.
His girlfriend threatened to leave if he accepted another assignment, but his determination to not let his father down drove him to accept.  When he returned from a briefing on where to report to for his new assignment with some government agency labeled as SGC he found his girlfriend had indeed left.
